Cherilyn McGraw, a special education teacher from North Carolina, is mourning the loss of her husband, U.S. Marine Gunnery Sgt. Brandon McGraw.

Brandon died in a tragic skydiving accident in Australia last weekend, a trip that Cherilyn had won on The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in January.

On Saturday, the married couple headed to Euroa Skydive, an Australian skydiving school, and went up in the same airplane to make the jump.

Employee Ian Matthews said that Brandon, who recently returned from Afghanistan, was an experienced skydiver with more than "a few jumps under his belt."

McGraw, Matthews recalled, "watched his wife do a tandem jump before exiting the plane. He floated for three or four minutes with a good canopy."

"A short time before landing, he suddenly began turning his parachute dramatically to the left and right and eventually crashed into the ground."

Ellen DeGeneres should maybe look at changing her name to Ellen The Generous. And she should probably supply her viewers, in studio and at home, with tissues. (Hey, Kleenex, we smell a sponsorship opportunity with your name on it!)

Danielle and Norma, two co-workers who first met Ellen via Skype, have fallen on hard times since she gifted them with TVs for their workstations at a Los Angeles hospital. Both women have filed bankruptcy and it takes Norma up to 2 hours a day to get to work on the bus.

The women were invited back to Ellen's big red couch where the talk show host had a few surprises in store for the ladies.

Start your morning off right and watch this video now. We dare you not to cry.

There's Photoshop gone wrong. And then there's Photoshop gone very, very right.

The latter includes James Franco and a pair of skimpy Santa briefs.

It's Christmas come early!

James Franco As Santa

So what's the deal with this awesome image of a shirtless James Franco?

Ahead of his upcoming appearance on Ellen, DeGeneres photoshopped Franco's head onto the body of a racy Santa which Franco then shared with his followers on Instagram.

"MERRY XMAS!!!! -- ELLEN MADE ME tHIS CAlENDaR!" Franco wrote.

Merry Christmas, indeed!

A waitress who picked up the tab for two National Guard soldiers affected by the government shutdown was paid back by Ellen DeGeneres - and then some.

Sarah Hoidahl of Concord, N.H., said she just wanted to do a nice thing for the soldiers she was waiting on, so she recently picked up their lunch tab of $27.75.

On Friday, after the story went viral, Ellen interviewed Hoidahl and paid her $27.75 in cash. Then she threw in a check for $10,000 and a 50-inch television.

An emotional Hoidahl buried her face in her hands and thanked Ellen, who replied multiple times, "You're a good person." And right she is. Watch it unfold:

DeGeneres heard of Hoidahl's gesture when the New Hampshire National Guard posted a picture on its Facebook page and the story spread quickly online.

The government shutdown ended after more than two weeks with the passage of a temporary budget agreement, but tensions could resurface in early 2014.

In the meantime, it's nice to hear at least one good thing came out of it.
