Five decades after changing the music scene forever, The Beatles brought artists from a variety of genres together last night.

Exactly 50 years to the date after John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr debuted on The Ed Sullivan Show, CBS aired "The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to The Beatles."

It featured such acts as Maroon 5, Stevie Wonder and Katy Perry, all paying tribute to the legendary band via covers of their greatest hits.

And the event concluded with the group's two surviving members, McCartney and Starr, singing a duet of "Hey Jude."

We have no idea why Justin Bieber wasn't invited to participate, but take in a number of memorable performances from the evening now:

Taylor Swift's infamous "shut the f--k up" comment at the MTV Video Music Awards was not actually about Harry Styles, her friend Ed Sheeran says.

Taylor Swift VMA Cursing

Sheeran said in an interview that Swift's "STFU" remark, caught on camera as the One Direction singer was speaking, looked bad, but was not what you think.

It was not aimed at her ex, but at her best friend Selena Gomez, who said seconds earlier that she thought Miley Cyrus was going to win Best Pop Video.

In response to that comment, Sheeran says, Taylor Swift told her to "Shut the f--k up" as a means of saying Gomez will win the award (which she did).

Sheeran added that Swift came up to him after realizing this blew up online and explained what happened with Selena, noting that "I messed up."

So ... Taylor is not a vindictive ex, but rather a good friend?

Not as good for celebrity gossip, but better for society!

New couple alert? Not so fast apparently.

Yes, cameras captured Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding holding hands at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, but the latter quickly took to Twitter last night and refuted talk that such a gesture meant anything in the romantic sense.

Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding

"I love that holding hands with my friends means we're an item," the singer wrote. "In that case I am in many relationships. Lover not a hater. #whatthef***."

With Taylor Swift and Kanye West both expected to perform this Sunday at the MTV Video Music Awards, the former has taken a moment to relive the pair's notorious past.

By mocking Kanye's infamous interruption of her speech at this event in 2009... via a jar of jam she gifted to Ed Sheeran.

No, really. The British singer posted the following to Instagram yesterday, depicting Swift's present to him and giving followers a clear view of a label that reads:

“Yo Ed, I’m really happy 4 you and I’m gonna let you finish but this is the best JAM OF ALL TIME – T.”

Taylor Swift Instagram Joke

Totally random, but pretty funny we suppose.

Will Swift and West cross paths at this year's ceremony? THG will be on the red carpet of the event and will report all we see and learn in detail soon after the craziness of the VMAs comes to an end.

Justin Bieber may want to avert his eyes before he reads this, hops in his Ferrari and terrorizes the streets of Calabasas at highway speeds in a fit or rage.

Selena Gomez and Ed Sheeran are totally hitting it!

"They are hooking up!" says one insider, noting that the matchmaker was none other than Gomez's close pal Taylor Swift, currently touring with Sheeran.

We all remember Taylor Swift's reaction when she last saw Selena and Justin kissing, so it's little surprise she's looking to steer Gomez elsewhere!
