Following a lengthy flirtation over Twitter, Demi Lovato and Trace Cyrus have ended their brief relationship.

Miley's older brother opened up about the break-up to People.

"Demi is one of my good friends and I definitely became very, very close with her in the past few months, and it's something I really wanted to make work. But unfortunately, we both have very busy schedules," the Metro Station singer said.

Trace says he and Demi remain close pals, despite the split.

"We gave it a shot and that's all you can do," says Cyrus. "Every time I hung out with that girl or talked on the phone with her, it was amazing. She's someone I can totally relate to... Maybe when she's older and we've both matured, we'll be looking for the same thing and it can work out."

For now, based on the recent rumor of Lovato cutting herself, we just hope Demi is dealing with this break up well.

We hope this report is not true.

New rumors are swirling around Demi Lovato, as tabloids have published photos that appear to depict the Disney star's troubling habit of cutting herself, a self-mutilation reaction that some use to deal with difficult emotional issues.

Speculation first started around eight months, as the first set of questionable pics were released, seemingly showing Lovato's scarred wrists.

Now, Star Magazine has unleashed the pictures below:

Cutting?

"Demi has been really stressed out about her new show, Sonny with a Chance," a source told Star. "She's not getting enough downtime because there is so much work involved, and she's always being pulled in different directions."

Can such pressure lead to destructive behavior? Yes, says Jennifer Austin Leigh, a doctor that has never treated Lovato, yet, apparently, has also never turned down an opportunity for fame.

"Cutting is how she can let go of the stress that has built up inside - when she cuts herself, it's a way to cope," said the San Francisco–based psychologist.

Write in and show your support for Lovato. Hang in there, Demi.

It's been a busy week, personally and professionally, for Demi Lovato.

If the young singer's Tweets are to be believed, she's definitely dating Trace Cyrus.

Meanwhile, if our friends at Movie Fanatic are to be believed, Lovato is teaming up with The Jonas Brothers for a sequel to Camp Rock. Alright!

The follow-up film will reportedly be titled Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. It will posit Demi, Kevin, Nick and Joe Jonas at Camp Rock again, where they encounter a problem: some of the students and instructors have ditched the locale for rival Camp Star!

The original Camp Rock scored huge ratings on the Disney Channel in the summer of 2008. Will you tune in for the sequel?

A few weeks ago, Demi Lovato told Ryan Seacrest that Trace Cyrus was simply a "really good friend."

But Lovato was either lying; didn't emphasize the really strongly enough; or forgot to add the words "... with benefits" to her description.

After all, these two rising stars have continued to flirt via Twitter, as Miley's older brother relayed the following two messages to Lovato (and thousands of others, of course) last night:

@ddlovato so soon! I'm so ready to get home to you.

@ddlovato you don't realize how excited I am! My tour manger is bookin my flight now! Your all I've thought about ever since I left town. <3

Demi's public response? So happy! <3 Ahhhh... Life is very, VERY good right now. :D :D :D

For those unversed in the world of Twitter, the pair just exchanged digital hearts back and forth. Obvi.

Expect Demi Lovato to come out any day now and, once again, deny any relationship between her and Cyrus. But this begs the question:

Why is the duo exchanging such obvious flirtations in such a public forum?!? Have they not heard of Email? Text messaging? Can readers please explain to us the point of Tweeting directly to another individual?

Perhaps we were too quick to dub Lovato as the "anti-Miley Cyrus." She may date older men and crave attention after all.

As the anti-Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato doesn't make news by posing for lewd photos or milking the death of Michael Jackson for attention.

Instead, she simply makes fun music and stars on the TV show Sonny with a Chance.

Touring with Her Ex

During a recent interview with WWD.com, Lovato said the acting is just a means to pay for the singing, however. She's not Lindsay Lohan (thank goodness) or Hilary Duff; Demi isn't caught between professional worlds.

Here's what else the lovely teenager had to say:

On her career: Acting is just kind of a way to pay for the singing. I mean, not anymore. Acting now is like a new challenge, new hobby, a new passion even.

On fashion choices: [I] wear and do what I want. Sometimes, when I want to wear a really hot skirt or something, I think, ‘Would you want your little sister to wear that skirt in two years? No.

On her age: I wish I was older a lot of the time. Because I feel like an adult and I’m working like an adult, but then I wake up and I’m 16 and it’s weird.

Demi Lovato, thank goodness, is the anti-Paris Hilton. She doesn't party every night at clubs, she's never made a sex tape and, to the best of our knowledge, she loves to wear underwear.

But the Disney actress does have one thing in common with the most promiscuous of hotel heiresses: taste in fashion.

Hilton hit The Late Show with David Letterman in this Alexander Wang dress last week, while Lovato attended the Toronto premiere of Princess Protection Program in the same outfit.

Who wears it better?

Paris vs. Demi

It's a good time to be a fan of teenage singers.

A couple days ago, we announced Miley Cyrus tour dates and locations for the fall.

Now, just a few weeks before its release, we've got our hands on the album cover for Demi Lovato's upcoming album, "Here We Go Again."

When asked about the CD, which hits stores on July 21, Demi cited the difference between this effort and her previous one:

“I think [my last album] Don’t Forget was a lot more Jonas sounding. It had a little more of their feel on it. But this album is just me.”

Will you purchase Demi Lovato's new album?

The Demi Lovato/John Mayer lovefest is getting stronger by the day.

A month after the musicians exchanged complimentary Tweets, Lovato is going on and on about the inspiration her new pal provides.

"He inspired a lot of the album just because he's an incredible musician," Demi said in an interview with Buzznet.

Asked if there are any of Mayer's she'd like to perform with him, Demi could name a few... hundred!

"Every single one! Oh my gosh. I think he's one of the greatest musicians ever! Definitely of our time, but ever!"

Demi Lovato is on her knees for John Mayer these days. It's a bit sickening.

Is Demi Lovato performing in a city near you this summer? Most likely.

The 16-year-old singer, and star of the Disney Channel's Sonny with a Chance, will headline a 2009 summer tour, Hollywood Records announced this morning. The huge North American tour begins June 21 in Hartford, Connecticut

"I'm so excited about headlining my own tour. I love life on the road. I’m in a different city every night and it never gets old," Lovato told People.

We already knew that John Mayer was a douchebag.

But might he be a shady, Justin Gaston-like douchebag?

The ex-boyfriend of Jennifer Aniston recently Twittered his affection for 16-year old Demi Lovato. Granted, he was just giving props to her vocal stylings, but we can't help but question the older singer's intentions.

We don't wanna know what John Mayer is fantasizing about in this photo.

"I have ‘La La Land’ by @ddlovato stuck in my head. Actually, it’s not stuck. I’m choosing to sing it. B section is sophisticated. You’re going to make lots of records, I can tell," Mayer wrote.

This led to a couple back-and-forth Tweets between the artists. We've recounted them below:

Lovato: “Holy crap. THANK YOU. You’re so awesome. That is quite possibly the best compliment I’ve received in this business. Thank you so, so much….. !!!!!!”
Mayer: “Write one song at a time, never apologize for any of them, ever. From Wonderland to Trio stuff, they’re all my kids.”
Lovato: “See, That’s exactly what I needed to hear today. Wow. If that’s not inspiration, then I don’t know what is! You’re incredible.”

That's one adjective for Mayer. We could think of a few more.
