Talks of a settlement between Demi Lovato and Alex Welch may be premature.

While lawyers for both sides - the troubled singer and the backup dancer who was attacked by Lovato immediately before she checked herself into rehab - have acknowledged contact, Demi's rep says no money has exchanged hands.

Specifically, this source tells Celebuzz a Chicago Sun-Times story that the actress paid Welch six figures in a settlement is "completely fabricated."

Attorney Stuart Slotnick, meanwhile, doubts the marks on Welch's face are enough to help her win any court case.

"If people could sue one another for causing bruises, we would all be in a lot of trouble," he says. "[If there isn't] some serious injury, a lawsuit may not be appropriate."

As expected, it looks like Demi Lovato and Alex Welch are close to reaching a settlement.

A day after the 21-year old back-up dancer told the world that Demi had yet to apologize for last month's punch to the face, the legal action has heated up between lawyers for both parties.

Freedom for Demi

Soon after his client gave this interview, Don Karpel said he would file suit against the Sonny With a Chance actress "in the next seven to 10 days" for alleged assault and battery.

That got the attention of Lovato's team, spokesman Jesse Derris said:

Days after photos of the bruises she suffered at the hands of Demi Lovato surfaced, Alex Welch is speaking out about the early November incident between her and that famous singer.

While sitting on a plane with Demi, The Jonas Brothers and others related to that tour, the 21-year dancer says she was punched in the face by Lovato, who suspected Alex of ratting out her partying actions from the previous evening.

"She walks up and punches me and literally walked away and got in her seat," Welch tells People, adding that she didn't tattle on anyone. "No one should do that and brush it over, it's not right."

Lovato entered rehab immediately following this confrontation, but has not reached out to Welch about it.

"To this day, I haven't gotten an apology. I've heard nothing," the dancer says. "That's sad if you think that person is your friend."

At this point, it's no secret that Demi Lovato has been dealing with a number of issues for a very long time.

How did those problems affect this singer's relationship with Joe Jonas? Greatly, according to the latest issue of People.

A source tells that publication Joe had little choice but to end things because “Demi’s attitude and behavior were out of control.” This insider goes on to refer to Demi as “a tortured mess."

Lovato's struggles hit a climax on a plane out of Peru, as has already been detailed. She believed backup dancer Alex Welch had tattled on her partying habits and, according to this story:

"Walked onto the plane, did not look at the girl, then suddenly punched her in the face and threatened her with a slew of expletives. Demi’s manager asked her, ‘Are you in control at all?’ She said, ‘Sorry, I just lost it.’”

From there, Demi agreed to seek treatment - and now we're all rooting for her to get better.
