Lindsay Lohan and David Letterman prank called his (their?) longtime quasi-nemesis Oprah during a taping of this evening's episode of The Late Show.

It was funny stuff, as Letterman pretended to be Lohan’s “secretary” as he called up Oprah from his desk, leading to some confusion on Winfrey's end.

Then things got emotional after Dave revealed his true identity and asked O how the troubled actress and Lindsay docu-series star is really doing lately ...

“I think she’s doing really OK," Oprah told David Letterman.

"I think to have cameras following you around for every phase of your life, and you’re trying to pull your life together, I think that’s a really difficult thing."

Hearing the supportive words, LiLo teared up ... and sounded like an 85-year-old chain smoker, but that's beside the point (and nothing new at this point).

We're glad to hear Winfrey still has faith in her. For now.

Not all celebrities get along like peanut butter and jelly, milk and cookies, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez.

Over the past few years, feuds have broken out in Hollywood over mental health issues; late night talk show skits; and Kim Kardashian sex tape parodies.

Who won each of these rivalries? The public, really. They were darn entertaining!

Click around below to relive the back-and-forth between Kathy and Dami, David and Bristol, Kanye and Kimmel and many other famous folks who simply don't see eye-to-eye:

Johnny Depp and his stunning "female engagement ring" are making the rounds, and the actor couldn't be prouder. He's engaged to Amber Heard, after all.

Depp joked about wearing his fiancee's engagement ring during an appearance on The Late Show with the retiring David Letterman last night.

"I have a female engagement ring," Depp, 50, confessed to the talk show host, explaining, "Yes - it was too big for my girl. She is wearing the other one."

As previously reported, The Lone Ranger star first opened up about his diamond while promoting his new film, Transcendence, in Beijing on March 31.

Heard, 27, has since been wearing a second one that the actor gave her.

"It fits you perfectly," commented Letterman. Depp replied: "I think people are too scared to comment, 'Why is a grown man wearing a woman's engagement ring?'"

As he announced on last night's Late Show, David Letterman is retiring in 2015 which gives CBS execs just a few months to secure a replacement for the beloved host. No mean feat, given the high stakes in the late night ratings battle and giant shoes Dave's successor will need to fill.

Jon Stewart Image
Jon Stewart hosts The Daily Show on Comedy Central. Some believe the comedian is a contender to replace David Letterman on CBS' The Late Show.

So who should the network choose to fill such an important role? Well, the race is wide open with several late night hosts up for contact renewal within the next year. Check out the gallery above for some of the frontrunners.

Big names like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert may find themselves competing with lesser-known basic cable stalwarts like Bravo's Andy Cohen.

Dark horse candidates like Chelsea Handler could bring an all new audience to the CBS late night lineup, but the network execs (typically not adventurous types) may choose to play it safe by promoting Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson.

All it took was one night with Lady Gaga to drive David Letterman away.

We kid, but the day after Gaga sang for the first time on The Late Show, Letterman announced his retirement as a talk show host.

The comedian told his studio audience at today's taping of his decision, with REM bassist Mike Mills Tweeting the news and various outlets subsequently confirming that Letterman will recite his final Top 10 List some time next year.

Letterman got his big break by performing stand-up many times on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He was then given NBC’s Late Night in 1982.

Drake Bell may think Lady Gaga is "repulsive," but the singer still has some very high-profile fans.

Bill Murray, for example, wasn't a scheduled guest on last night's Late Show with David Letterman, but that didn't stop the legendary comic from showing up, crossing a few items off his bucket list, and getting friendly with the Mother Monster.

Okay, so Murray and Gaga's time together may not have been a "date," exactly, but the two enjoyed each other's company on Letterman so much that while they were still filming, the 28-year-old singer asked the 63-year-old actor to escort her to her show at NYC's Roseland Ballroom just across the street.

No word yet on whether Gaga made good on her promise to "sing some songs" directly  to Murray and Letterman during her concert.

As for Bill's bucket list he managed to cross off both "meet Ms. Gaga" and "take a selfie" over the course of the night, so it's safe to say he can chalk the evening up as the latest in a lifetime of epic wins.

Will Smith performed a snippet of his old school hip hop hit "Summertime" on The Late Show With David Letterman Monday night, and it was awesome.

Turning up to promote his new film After Earth, Smith strolled out to the funky song, which Paul Schaffer and the CBS Orchestra played as his intro.

That was cool enough, but then Will grabbed the mic and joined in! Watch:

Now a big-time movie star, Will's last album was 2005's Lost and Found. The A-lister does still rap the Fresh Prince theme song on occasion, at least.

Check out the original video for "Summertime" (1991) after the jump:
