David Archuleta Debuts New Singles: What Do You Think?
While Kris Allen received many birthday wishes yesterday, Lee DeWyze recently signed a record deal and Adam Lambert continues to make headlines, let's not forget about David Archuleta.
That former American Idol finalist has carved out a nice career for himself, establishing a rabid fan base, releasing two albums and promoting a book titled "Chords of Strength: A Memoir of Soul, Song and the Power of Perseverance."
Archie performed in Idaho earlier this week and included two new singles in his set list: "Not a Very Good Liar" and "Parachutes and Airplanes."
It's unclear when David will release a new CD, but expect these songs to be included on it. What do you think of them?
David Archuleta Is Not Gay
A few nights ago, David Archuleta was spotted at a gay club in New York City.
As a result, silly rumors have sprung up all over the Internet, questioning the adorable singer's sexuality. While he wouldn't be ashamed if he were gay, Archuleta has taken to Twitter to clear everything up:
I got invited to go and see my friend Charice perform. Mental note to self: always ask where before you go! Wasn’t my kind of place lol, and I had no clue! I guess you live and learn. The upside was that Charice was awesome, and she has an incredible voice.
Hope that clears things up! Been seeing some of the tweets.. sheesh!
Darn. That's too bad. Who wouldn't love to see Adam Lambert couple up with David Archuleta?!?
David Archuleta and Rihanna Perform on American Idol
While the American Idol community is buzzing over the judges' decision to save Michael Lynche from elimination (do you think it was the right call?), we'd like to focus on the two acts that graced the stage last night.
First, what can even be said about David Archuleta at this point? Young, cute crooners such as Alex Lambert and Aaron Kelly have won over many fans this season, but neither compares to this former finalist.
He showed why again last night, serenading the audience with a rendition of "Imagine."
After that, the episode took a 180 degrees turn and showcased a song from Rihanna, looking even more hardcore than usual.
Below, check out her performance of "Rockstar 101," as well as a few photos of both her and David on stage.
David Archuleta is Rooting for Andrew Garcia
He may be releasing a book and working on a new album, but David Archuleta still has time to watch American Idol.
Asked by The Los Angeles Times about the new crop of contestants, the season seven runner-up said:
“I think they’re really talented. They show a lot of their own personalities, and I liked that about them. And there’s some really good singers, too. Like Andrew Garcia, I like the character that he’s shown. I feel like there’s a lot of pressure for them because people are now expecting them to change up the songs, and they’re not sure exactly what to be showing people.
"It’s matter of balance - changing the song enough to show who you are but still preserving the song for what made it magical.”
As for his upcoming CD?
“I’ve been working on it since January, but I had my first writing sessions in the summer, and I went to Nashville to write in October. Then the Christmas album came out and sort of took over, but I go back to Nashville this week. I just want it to sound more like me.
"I want people to say, ‘This is David talking.’ Instead of just interpreting - and I’m sure there will be songs like that - I want to focus on showing people who I am, what my personality is like and hoping that I leave an impression on people."
He's already left an impression on many people. Years after he exited the Idol stage, David remains one of the show's most popular alums.
David Archuleta Memoir Planned, Single Leaked
Some time during season nine, Adam Lambert will perform on American Idol.
It's safe to assume David Archuleta will, as well.
We can make this assumption because the former runner-up is releasing a memoir on May 4. It's titled "Chords of Strength" and here are a few snippets about it, courtesy of Amazon.com:
David Archuleta was named one of the "breakout stars of 2008" by Forbes magazine and landed the number two spot on the Billboard charts.
In Chords of Strength, David shares his unexpected and inspiring journey, including how he overcame vocal cord paralysis to achieve his dream of being a singer. He reveals insecurities he felt about his voice-before he realized that he loved the way singing made him feel more than he disliked the way he sounded.
In this personal memoir, David opens up about the strength he draws from his unshakable faith and unyielding family. He pays tribute to those who continue to inspire him and through their example help him believe in himself, his talent, and his abilities.
Meanwhile, a single off Archuleta's upcoming album has also leaked online.
Give a listen to "She's Not You" below.
David Archuleta Calendar: On Sale for Charity
David Archuleta is featured on a new calendar.
Created by photographer Jennifer Barry, the item is on sale at Qoop.com and benefits a cause near to the American Idol runner-up's heart: the Utah chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
“This year instead of waiting for a fundraiser to begin, I created it myself as I was inspired by David’s charity speech [in January]," Barry said. “I have been wanting to help support Crush MS through photos I have taken of David.
"So, this year, I made a 2010 David Calendar called ‘Be The Change.’ All proceeds will go to help support the fight against MS... whether you purchase this calendar or not, please make this the year YOU make a difference!”

For just $21, you can help David Archuleta fight a difficult disease.
David Archuleta and Jordin Sparks: No Air, Lots of Talent
Not so fast, Aaron Kelly!
While American Idol viewers are already comparing the aforementioned season nine contestant with David Archuleta, the former runner-up proved this week that he won't be replaced without a fight.
The talented young singer took to the stage with Jordin Sparks at the 2010 Jordin Sparks Experience, a pre-Super Bowl event held at Miami Beach on Wednesday night. Don't they look adorable together?
The former American Idol alumni performed a duet to “No Air," the single Sparks originally made famous with Chris Brown.
Could she have replaced Brown with anyone more opposite from him? We doubt it. This, of course, is a big compliment to David. The day he beats his girlfriend is the day Jon Gosselin starts caring about his kids.
Watch the pair entertain the crowd below.
