Crystal Bowersox Splits with Record Label

Seemingly apt for an American Idol contestant whose look and sound stood apart from most others, Crystal Bowersox has split from RCA/Jive and will release her next album elsewhere.

“I’m not worried about where I’m gonna be,” Bowersox told TV Line about her professional standing. “I’m gonna be making music if it’s on my own label or if it’s with somebody else. I’d love to work with ATO, Dave Matthews’ label. We’ll see what happens.”

The season nine runner-up has sold 210,000 copies of "Farmer's Daughter," a number that exceeds champion Lee DeWyze's 146,000 for his debut CD.

Crystal isn't a mainstream sensation, but she's perfectly happy with where her career is at.

“For not having any radio play and any great promotion, I think I’ve done pretty well on sales,” she said. “I’m able to provide a good, comfortable life for my family, and that’s what I wanted out of it... I continue to do this for a living. There’s nothing better.”

Bowersox will actually expand her resume next week: look for her to guest star on ABC's Body of Proof.

Grammy-winner Bruno Mars, last season's finalist Crystal Bowersox and the departing Casey Abrams all performed live on American Idol on Thursday night.

While Casey's elimination was another surprise in a season packed with unexpected American Idol results, he enjoyed a nice run and proved worthy of a save.

Unfortunately, the judges couldn't bail him out a second time last night.

Crystal Bowersox Debut Album Sales: Not Terrible

It could have been worse for Crystal Bowersox.

A month after American Idol champion Lee DeWyze watched his debut album sell fewer copies during its first week of release than any CD in show history, Crystal's "Farmer's Daughter" moved 57,804 units.

That figure was good enough for number-28 on the Billboard 200 Chart. It was also about 20,000 more sales than her fellow finalist's initial effort.

Among other American Idol alums, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia and Daughtry also earned spots this week on the Billboard 200.

Crystal Bowersox and Brian Walker: Married!

Crystal Bowersox recently made the insightful, intelligent comment that one's wedding isn't nearly as important as one's marriage.

With the first step taken care of, the American Idol runner-up can now focus on the second. That's right: Bowersox married fellow musician Brian Walker in Chicago yesterday.

"Our lives have never made more sense than they do right now,” Bowersox told People. “I can't believe how incredibly lucky we are to have found so much laughter, love, and light within each other. We're one happy WalkerSox family."

Ha! WalkerSox! We love it.

Crystal Bowersox Dishes on Upcoming Wedding

After signing a record deal in June, it seemed like life couldn't get any better for Crystal Bowersox.

Then, she announced an engagement to Brian Walker this month and congratulations from this singer's fans have been pouring in ever since. The wedding is scheduled to take place in the next few weeks, which feels sudden. But Bowersox says:

"Brian's known me for a long time, and so he's been a part of my life for a long time. He's known my [18-month old son]. They laugh constantly. It's hilarious."

Taking the refreshing stance that the wedding itself doesn't have to be perfect, Crystal says she wants the marriage to set a good example for her son, Tony:

"I've never really in my life had a great representation of what a good marriage is. My parents divorced, and a lot of people in my family are divorced, so I hope to give my son a great model of what a happy marriage is or relationship could be."

We wish this incredible talent nothing but the best!

Crystal Bowersox: Engaged to Brian Walker!

American Idol runner-up Crystal Bowersox is engaged! To Brian Walker!

The singer and her fiance plan to tie the knot next month, her rep says.

It's the first marriage for Bowersox, 25, who also has a son, Tony, 18 months, from a previous relationship. Bowersox is currently recording her debut album.

Thumbs Up From Crystal

Definitely cause for a thumbs-up!

Her love life has been fast-tracked almost as much as her singing career. Her now-ex, Tony Kusian, broke up with her just before the American Idol finale.

She said the split was mutual but that she drew on emotion while singing a moving rendition of Patty Griffin's "Up to the Mountain." Up she went, indeed.

Congratulations to Crystal and Brian on this wonderful news!

Happy Birthday, Crystal Bowersox!

While America may largely be celebrating the birthday of the man that came in first in 2008, let's take a moment and also acknowledge the woman that came in second in 2010.

She may not be the leader of the free world, but Crystal Bowersox still made millions of fans through her run on American Idol last season.

Bowersox turns 25 today and she has a lot to be thankful for. The singer signed a record deal in June and got her teeth fixed soon after. Look for a debut album to be released later this year.

In the meantime, enjoy the Crystal photo montage below and send in your birthday wishes to Bowersox right now...

Crystal Bowersox: Stop Hating My Ex!

Just a few hours before she took took the stage for the American Idol finale in May, Crystal Bowersox and her boyfriend broke up.

In an extensive interview with the August issue of Redbook, the singer wants to make one thing very clear: don't point any fingers at her ex, Tony.

"I want to make clear how amazing, kind, and generous a person he is, and that he truly considers my son his son and little Tony loves him," Crystal said. "He's been there since my son was about 3 months old. And in a lot of ways, he's the perfect man; he really is.

"But ultimately, we both knew it wasn't going to work out, considering the different lives we were leading. And it's better to come to that realization than to have an unhappy relationship. Mommy and Daddy need to be happy in order for baby to be happy."

Bowersox, who fell to Lee DeWyze in the finals of the competition, touched on a number of other topics, as well. To wit:

On almost quitting Idol: I did go talk to Ryan [Seacrest] at one point because he works 24/7 and I knew he would understand. He gave me the best advice: He said the best thing I could ever do was work hard enough now so I could take care of my family. And it's true. Sometimes you have to work really hard and make sacrifices so you can provide for the people you love.

On her hospitalization: You want to forget you're diabetic for a while, and maybe you don't watch yourself as well as you should. I ended up getting sick in March, and they told me I was off the show. I wasn't going to take that. I begged, I screamed, I pleaded. I said, 'I want to meet with the head honchos. I need this so bad for my kid. I'll go home if I'm voted off, but not because of this.' That's the one time I threw a huge fit, and thankfully, they gave in.

We were big fans of Crystal throughout the show and we wish her the best of luck.
