One year ago today, Cory Monteith died from a fatal heroin overdose.

The actor's shocking passing caused Glee to delay shooting for a few weeks while colleague mourned, especially girlfriend Lea Michele.

She went on to release her first solo album, saying in many interviews that Monteith helped her write many of the tracks and that many were penned with the star in mind.

Take "If You Say So," for example.

Glee creator Ryan Murphy, meanwhile, has already said that he knows the final scene of his series (which wraps up in 2015) and that it will serve in some way to honor Monteith's memory.

We've published the following photo montage with the same goal in mind and continue to extend our condolences to the late actor's loved ones...

RIP, Cory Monteith

The late Glee actor Cory Monteith's name was embarrassingly misspelled during an "In Memoriam" tribute segment at the 2014 Grammy Awards Sunday night.

When Monteith's name flashed on screen in at the live event, fans and audience members were shocked to see that his surname had the "i" and "e" flipped:

Cory Monteith Grammy Tribute

It's a tough name to spell, and was just an honest mistake the editors regret, but it's still upsetting for many Glee fans still mourning the deceased star.

Cory Monteith was found dead Saturday, July 13, in a room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in downtown Vancouver after missing his noon checkout time.

An autopsy and toxicity screening showed that the 31-year-old died of an overdose, officially termed mixed drug toxicity, with heroin and alcohol in his system.

However you want to spell his name, he'll never be forgotten. It just hasn't been the same to watch Glee ever since he was taken from us far too soon.

In other embarrassing (but more pleasant) Grammy news ... you have to see the reaction of Taylor Swift thinking she won Album of the Year when she didn't ...

Glee creator Ryan Murphy has offered up new details on how the series will deal with the loss of Cory Monteith, who died of a drug overdose in July.

Finn will pass away, but despite Murphy's previous statements that Glee will "deal directly" with the issues that led to the actor's death, he will not OD.

“There were a lot of things that we had to decide ... how are we going to deal with his death?” Murphy said, and his answer may surprise Glee fans.

Finn will die, but how? We may never know: "Basically, what we’re doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died."

"The idea being, how somebody died is interesting and maybe morbid, but we will say very early on, ‘This episode is about a celebration of that character’s life.'"

"That might be weird for some people, but it felt exploitative to do it any other way."

The death of Cory Monteith will be addressed in the third episode of the coming season, Fox's Chairman of Entertainment Kevin Reilly said this afternoon.

Cory Monteith for Glee

"The third episode will write Finn out ... that episode will deal directly with the incidents involved with Cory's passing and the drug abuse in particular," he said.

He would not confirm rumors that Finn also dies of a drug overdose.

However, creator and executive producer "Ryan [Murphy] will shoot some PSA's with the cast, who will speak directly to the audience," he said.

Additionally, all the proceeds resulting from sales of the Glee music in that episode will go toward forming a foundation in Cory Monteith's memory.

On Saturday, two days after the cast of Glee said goodbye to Cory Monteith at a private memorial, Mike O'Malley reflected on his late costar and frequent scene partner.

Appearing on a panel at the Television Critics Association press tour in promotion of his upcoming sitcom, Welcome to the Family, the 46-year old told reporters:

"I think that I had what was probably the toughest scene I’ve ever acted in my career as an actor opposite [Monteith] when I had to throw him [Finn] out of the house because of a slur that he used."
