Chris Brown has used homophobic slurs before, but says that's in the past, and a recent report claiming he used them during a basketball game is BS.

A day after Star and Radar reported that Brown went off on another anti-gay rant, the oft-maligned R&B singer is sounding off, and he's not happy.

Brown's rep calls Star's tale utterly false, saying he wasn't even ballin' that day and the photo Star used was months old - and from a video shoot.

Big Winnah

A totally fictitious article ran in the current Star magazine accusing our client Chris Brown of doing something that he did not do," says Brown's rep.

"He got ticked off when things didn't go his way during the game, saying, 'That's gay!' and ‘You're a f-----t a--!' to the other players," Star claimed.

Brown's side of the story? A little different.

"He spent the entire day with dozens of members of the production team filming the video for 'Body to Body' at 1870 Sunset Paza in West Hollywood."

"Star accompanied the fabricated story with a photo of Chris playing basketball in New York,s taken on the day of his F.A.M.E. CD release in March."

"Chris Brown's management is considering taking appropriate legal action. We stand behind our client and want to set the record straight. This did not happen."

We believe him, and are glad to hear it.

It's possible this story is completely bogus, given that it stems from unnamed sources quoted by Star and Radar. But given Chris Brown's proclivity for using such language, getting the benefit of the doubt may be a tall order.

According to this report, he shouted anti-gay slurs during a recent pickup basketball game, "stunning and repulsing" onlookers on June 29.

The much-maligned R&B singer turned up at a 24 Hour Fitness center in L.A. and joined a casual pickup game. Things got ugly quickly.

BALLER

Chris Brown ballin' earlier this year.

So what exactly happened? An eyewitness tells Star the following:

“He got really ticked off when things didn’t go his way during the game, saying, ‘That’s gay!’ and ‘You’re a f*gg*t a**!’ to other players.”

Chris even got in one guy's face, berating him for missing a shot. That's pretty standard, but his supposed word choice raised eyebrows.

Last night at the BET Awards, some lucky fans were chosen to present the viewer's choice award. Some serious awkwardness transpired.

Not only did the wrong person get it, the celebrities involved happened to be Chris Brown and Rihanna, with Drake thrown in no less.

Brown owned the BET Awards, taking home four big honors, one of which being the viewer's choice award. But it wasn't given to him initially ...

The lucky fan read the winner as "Chris Brown," only to recant it and say, "I'm sorry, the winner is Rihanna." The audience grumbled.

THEN, despite the fact that Rihanna's name appeared on screen one of the presenters chimed in again to award the honor to ... Drake.

Drake then appeared on stage to collect his trophy, giving a short speech and describing the whole thing as awkward. To say the least.

Presumably, at some point later, Brown was credited with the actual award ... but not before the entire process was thoroughly discredited.

Often-embattled and controversial R&B star Chris Brown triumphed last night at the BET Awards, taking home four awards, including the viewers' choice prize.

"I know it's been a long road, so I just appreciate every blessing that's been in front of me," Brown told the audience after accepting one of his many honors.

Here's Chris performing "She Ain't You" and "Look at Me Now":

In an odd turn of events, Brown's name was called as the winner of the viewers' choice award ... and then Rihanna's. Canadian rapper Drake (who is rumored to be dating Rihanna) awkwardly appeared to accept on her behalf.

Later, it was revealed that Chris Brown was the actual winner and there had been a technical error. He was given the award, but not before the pre-chosen fan who announced the winner on Twitter was eviscerated for the error.

In any case, congratulations to Chris on a great night.

Chris Brown has been under considerable fire this week, and really since he assaulted then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. People will not give the dude a break.

Given his frequent blowups - most recently a gay slur against some photographers he thought told the police about his illegally parked car - you can see why.

Chris did apologize, sort of, for that incident, but it's clear he's just as upset that he's being criticized for it as he is at himself for uttering it to start with.

Brizzle

In a string of Tweets last night, he wrote: "This will make things a whole lot easier. If you don't like/support me then don't listen to my music (sic).

"Latching on to my every word and criticizing makes you look thirsty. I can't even piss without somebody complaining. Imagine how I feel (sic).

"A person should not have to apologize every second for living life (sic)!"

Perhaps some are too quick to jump all over him, but at the same time, he brings a lot of this upon himself by calling people gay, throwing chairs through windows and the like. Work on the anger, Chris. Then people will chill.

Yesterday afternoon, MTV Canada ran a story about a Tweet from Rihanna, referencing her infamous beating at the hands of Chris Brown and allegedly saying, "'I admit it. I provoked Chris to hit me. It not entirely his fault. #imSORRY?'"

Just one problem. She didn't write it.

The story was based on an image reportedly screen-capped from RiRi's Twitter page. It looks to be fake, however, as there's no evidence this ever actually appeared on her page. As such, she's slamming the network for quoting it.

RiRi Tweet

This is all the alleged "story" is based on. It might be tough to hack Rihanna's Twitter, but it'd be ridiculously easy to fake this low-res image.

In any case, Rihanna Tweeted this response:

"@mtvnewscanada - are u f--king kiddin me?????? You're supposed to be a RELIABLE source for news on music and this is the bulls--t u post??"

Their response: "#Rihanna fans. We were reporting on a story that was posted on several sites today. We had no intention to be salacious."

Regardless of what terms she and Chris are on, there's no way she would write that. In other news, did you hear about Rihanna and Drake?

THG Asks!

Welcome to THG's new feature, in which two of our celebrity gossip experts debate topical issues in the entertainment world and you decide who wrote the winning argument!

Today, THG Asks: Should Chris Brown offer a real apology for uttering a gay slur yesterday?

YES by Free Britney

You might not believe this after I condemned the gay slur he uttered yesterday, but I do think Chris Brown is unfairly scrutinized sometimes. He's under a microscope.

He just wants to live his life. Some people want him to fail. Unfair, but the reality is that it's inevitable, he brought it upon himself, and he has to control his anger.

I don't believe Chris is homophobic because he said "y'all n!ggas is gay" to those photographers. I believe he meant it as slang, as a generic put-down.

The intent means little to his gay fans and the community at large, though. He hurled "gay" as an insult. It's offensive, and a half-ass apology won't cut it.

I don't expect you to be perfect, Chris, but I'd love to think that you're a good guy who can be the bigger person, admit fault and show compassion.

Now that would show the haters. Kill them with kindness!

NO by Hilton Hater

Chris Brown is a violent man, with a clear anger problem, who clearly isn't very tolerant of the gay lifestyle.

I disagree with just about everything he has said or done over the past couple years.

But the consistent behavior, tone and language at least prove one thing: this is who Brown really is.

At the very least, the singer should man up and accept that fact. Embrace it. Cater to the loyal fan base who will apparently defend him through thick and thin, through homophobic slurs and roundhouse punches to the opposite sex's face.

Why bother making lame, half-hearted apologies such as the one offered this week? Brown obviously didn't mean a word of it, and those who have stuck by him through these incidents don't think he needs to show remorse over them anyway.

The rest of us? We don't want a phony attempt at contrition. If you're gonna be a prick, be a prick all the way. Don't half-ass it.

THG Asks you ... should Chris offer a real apology?

We've love to give Chris Brown the benefit of the doubt, but to the extent that you can interpret one Tweet, he simply doesn't come across as sincere.

In his "apology" for dropping a gay slur at a bunch of photographers yesterday, the singer writes that he has "total respect for [the] Gay community."

Really, Chris? Do you now?

BROWN TWEET APOLOGYChris ranted, "Y'all n**gas is weak. You all call them to try and film me? Y'ALL N**GAS IS GAY!" Yeah. Pretty sure that was intended to insult people.

There's also no apology here. If he has "total respect" he would at least acknowledge what he did with more than this half-assed dismissal.

He used "gay" as an insult, end of discussion. Is this some huge deal? Does this make him a bad person? Certainly not. But he's not going to win much respect or sympathy with frequent blowups and non-apologies like this.

Sorry, Chris. That's just some #REALSH!T for you.

Your thoughts? Should he apologize for real?

Chris Brown sweet-talked his way out of a parking ticket yesterday ... but the way he talked to cameramen may have been anything but.

It's not clear from the video below if it was Chris or his bodyguard who said it, but according to TMZ, Brown accused several cameramen of alerting some parking enforcement personnel that his car was illegally parked, ranting:

"Y'all n**gas is weak. You all call them to try and film me? Y'ALL N**GAS IS GAY!"

Did Brown utter that quote? Again, it's hard to tell from the clip above. But if he did, he can expect calls for him to apologize pretty fast.

For what it's worth, in December, C-Breezy got into a Twitter feud with Raz B and made several homophobic comments in the process.

On an unrelated note, he did not get a ticket at least.

Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory" video release just got some big-name company.

In what may become one of the most-played songs of 2011 and a major image boost for Chris Brown, he's teamed up with Justin Bieber on “Next 2 You.”

The mid-tempo track will no doubt be exploding online and on pop radio for months. Check out Chris and JB's official music video right here, right now ...

“One day when the sky is falling/ I’ll be standing right next to you/ Nothing will ever come between us/ ’cause I’ll be standing right next to you,” they sing.

The music video certainly puts these words to the test.

In it, the world is ending, tearing the guys from their ladies (who we first saw in the rough cut). It's an epic production from two pop music megastars.

What do you think of the track?
