Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer fans everywhere, rejoice! There's hope once again to see them portray Christian Grey on the big screen.

In shocking news announced this afternoon, Charlie Hunnam has pulled out of the role in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie adaptation.

Hunnam, best known for his role as Jax on FX's Sons of Anarchy, has de-committed from playing Dakota Johnson's love interest in the forthcoming project.

Interestingly, previous reports hinted at Hunnam quitting Fifty Shades of Grey because of fan reactions to his initial casting in the coveted role.

Those rumors were proven erroneous, but the response was underwhelming at best. Some readers even petitioned the producers for a new Christian.

So why did he actually exit the project - which has been confirmed - now?

We knew some Fifty Shades of Grey fans weren't thrilled with the actors cast as the movie's sexy leads, but we may have underestimated the level of vitriol.

There's already a petition to oust Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam.

A petition on change (dot) org, which was no doubt created with just this kind of important community activism in mind, has well over 10,000 signatures.

As for who the irate 50 Shades petitioners would love to replace Chakota with?

Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel, two of the favorites in the online fantasy casting game that became a 50 Shades pastime for the better part of 18 months.

The producers of Fifty Shades of Grey are defending the casting of Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam, which was not what you would call universally lauded.

Fantasy 50 Shades of Grey movie casting has become an online pastime for almost two years, which fans throwing out countless names and pairings.

Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam? Not a common one.

A common Twitter refrain: "Who the heck are these people?"

Another fan, writing the film off before it's even started filming, wrote: "Ok… they freaking killed it. The movie has been totally ruined. Fifty Shades will suck."

Yet another likened the casting to Ben Affleck as Batman, calling Hunnam as Christian Grey "so wrong" and lamenting the early death of the 50 Shades film.

The backlash was so bad that the filmmakers responded.

And the debate begin.

Following weeks of rumors and fake trailers, Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam have been cast as the leads in the big screen adaption of Fifty Shades of Grey.

They will portray Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, respectively.

Johnson, the daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, is a 23-year old former model who appeared in The Social Network and the Fox sitcom Ben and Kate.

She reportedly beat out such major names for the role as Emma Watson and Shailene Woodley.

Hunnam, meanwhile, is best known for playing Jax Teller on FX's Sons of Anarchy and earned the gig over stars such as TVD's Ian Somerhalder.
