With all the controversy surrounding Carrie Prejean, it's easy to forget that the lightning rod did not actually win the Miss USA pageant a couple of weeks ago.

That honor went to Kristen Dalton.

Prejean Press Conference

Immediately after the North Carolina beauty took home the crown, the spotlight turned to Prejean and her comments about same-sex marriage. But Dalton has no complaints, telling E! Online that all the commotion has actually been a good thing.

"I think it's great for the Miss Universe Organization, it's given us a lot of publicity," Dalton said. "A lot of people will be watching this Miss USA pageant next year."

Wonderfully PC answer. She should go into politics.

And as for the embattled Miss California, Dalton says the outspoken Prejean "was friendly to everybody, so I don't really think anyone has a problem with her."

As for her views on a certain divisive political issue?

"Everybody has the right to their own opinion," Kristen Dalton said, "Me personally, I think that everybody deserves equal rights, it's really as simple as that."

Donald Trump's Miss Universe Organization insists it didn't take issue with Prejean's comments but that she appeared to be shirking Miss California duties.

That, and the topless photos she took when she was 17.

Although dethroned Miss Nevada 2007 Katie Rees feels that Trump created a double standard by keeping Prejean but stripping her own crown due to older party pics that surfaced after she won, Dalton sees a difference between the two situations.

"If you look at the photos, they're completely different," the reigning Miss USA said. "Carrie's were modeling photos, and Katie's were in action."

She means girl-on-girl action, in case any of you are unfamiliar.

"Donald Trump approved [the photos]," Kristen Dalton added. "He's the owner of this organization and I fully support what he thinks is best.

"And you know, [Carrie Prejean] has the opportunity to go back to California and try to be the best Miss California USA that she can be."

More importantly: Who would you rather ...

A few facts about Vista, California:

  • It has a population of approximately 100,000 people;
  • In the state legislature, the city is located in the 38th Senate District, and is represented by Republican Mark Wyland; in the 74th Assembly District, it is represented by Republican Martin Garrick.
  • In the 2008 Presidential election, John McCain won the 49th Congressional District, which includes Vista, by eight percentage points over Barack Obama.

Why are we listing these seemingly random figures? To prove that the area is a heavy Conservative stronghold, and yet...

An Awful Human Being

... the folks of the Vista Unified School District in San Diego have voted - overwhelmingly - NOT to give Carrie Prejean a day in her honor.

Donald Trump, aware that the wind could blow Carrie Prejean's top open at any moment, helps to avoid another wardrobe malfunction.

According to TMZ, the debate over whether or not to showcase Miss California - a Vista native - with "Carrie Prejean Day" lasted for 45 minutes, ending with just one person voting in favor of it.

Steve Lily, Vice President of the school board, said the district had never honored a former student and didn't wish to start with someone who "had breast implants, posed semi-nude" and whose goal was to be a Victoria's Secret model.

So, what do you have to say now, Christian Conservatives? Carrie's hometown, one that has a long history of voting Republican, wants nothing to do with her.

When Shanna Moakler stood next to Donald Trump at this week's press conference, as he announced the fate of Carrie Prejean, Moakler says she had every intention of remaining on Miss California's side.

But "the turning point for me, I guess, was when I was watching the Today show and she was sitting there continuing to lie," Moakler, who resigned as a pageant official yesterday, told Ryan Seacret this morning. "And it's obvious to everybody that the lying is still going on. I just couldn't stand behind her."

An Awful Human Being

You're far from alone, Shanna.

This is awkward. Shanna Moakler watches Donald Trump milk every ounce of publicity out of the Carrie Prejean controversy.

Considering her fame, attention and growing, narrow-minded fan base, Moakler added that Prejean was "basically rewarded for lying."

Listeners to Seacrest's radio show could hear Moakler get especially emotional as she talked about stepping away from her post.

"How am I supposed to aggressively promote someone that I don't even know if they're being truthful with me," she asked. "I work hard. I worked hard on that pageant and this has been a very, very difficult decision for me because I love the Miss California organization and I love my family over there and the friends that I've made and the commitment that I had. I just don't think the situation right now is right."

Embattled Miss California Carrie Prejean certainly has her share of critics, but rest assured, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is firmly in her camp.

The 2008 GOP Vice Presidential nominee released a statement last night slamming "the liberal onslaught of malicious attacks" against Prejean, who first ignited controversy for coming out against same-sex marriage at last month's Miss USA pageant.

"I can relate, as a liberal target myself," Sarah Palin said.

"What I find so remarkable is that these politically-motivated attacks fail to show that what Carrie and I believe is also what President Obama and Secretary Clinton believe - marriage is between a man and a woman."

"I applaud Donald Trump for standing with Carrie during this time. And I respect Carrie for standing strong and staying true to herself, and not letting those who disagree with her deny her protection under the nation's First Amendment Rights."

DUMB AND DUMBER: Carrie Prejean has a new, high-profile political backer.

"Our Constitution protects us all - not just those who agree with the far left," the mother of Bristol Palin went on.

Amazingly, the governor of a U.S. state apparently does not realize that:

  • She was only a "liberal target" because she was running for Vice President of the United States, and representing the other party.
  • The First Amendment has nothing to do with being criticized for speaking one's mind; it simply protects one from being imprisoned for it.
  • Prejean nearly lost her crown not for her gay marriage stance, but for violating the terms of her contract with a private organization.
  • Prejean did not lose her crown! Rather, she received national acclaim, even becoming a hero to the National Marriage ... whatever it is.

Last week, Prejean's father, Will, told E! Online that Palin personally called him to voice support for his daughter, but didn't reveal any more details.

On Tuesday, Trump announced at a news conference that Prejean will keep her crown despite the release of semi-nude and topless photos that she blamed on the wind ... or Satan ... or liberals, or ... whatever, who the hell cares.

Miss California pageant director Shanna Moakler resigned her position a day later, saying she "no longer believes" in the Miss Universe organization. When Shanna Moakler is your new moral compass, you've got issues, Miss Universe.

It's already been established that Carrie Prejean is a liar.

But photographer Dominic Petruzzi, the man responsible for Miss California's latest set of truly topless pictures, is taking Prejean to task for, again, misleading the public. By a mile.

Trump vs. Prejean

In response to Carrie's claim - made at this week's Donald Trump-hosted press conference - that her vest was blown open by the wind and that she had no idea she was posing for half-naked photos, Petruzzi simply laughed.

In between phony tears over her country's Constitution, Carrie Prejean told a series of lies at this week's press conference.

He told TMZ that Prejean "spontaneously" exposed her breasts during the Bliss Magazine shoot, adding that the pics were snapped on a non-windy "normal day."

Regarding Carrie's statement that the images were taken between shots for the modeling session, implying that she was somehow unaware film was being used on her at the time, Petruzzi said: "She was totally posing and looking into the camera."

Finally, Dominic said Prejean saw every picture on the roll, including the boob pics, and approved of each.

To quote Katie Rees:

"[Carrie] has lied about her age when she took the photos, lied about how many there were and hasn't acknowledged that she was wrong by breaking the contract. I don't think that is a good role model and I hope young women recognize that."

But, hey, she doesn't believe in "opposite marriage," so let's put this woman on a pedestal!

Keith Olbermann, in the video below, addressing Carrie Prejean:

Your grandfather did not fight to protect your right to answer a question during a network television soft porn special without consequences or fallout... He fought to protect you from having the government stop us from speaking our minds.

We know you despise Olbermann, Conservatives. And it's hard for even the most left-wing nut to defend his maniacal rants sometimes.

But we beseech readers - in the interest of open, fair debate - to watch and listen to the MSNBC host's take on Prejean below. He doesn't mention gay marriage once, instead focusing on the illogical argument that Carrie was somehow simply exercising her right to free speech.

As referenced in the quote above, Olbermann argues:

  • The First Amendment has nothing to do with getting flak for speaking one's mind; it simply protects a citizen from being imprisoned for that act.
  • Moreover, Carrie wasn't punished for her answer, as she claims. She's received national acclaim and didn't even lose her crown, despite blatantly violating her contract!

All of Prejean's supporters say it's unfair to attack someone for exercising her freedom of speech. But what if she said she believes all African-Americans should be slaves? Would critics be allowed to pounce on her then? It's just her opinion, right?

Also, let's not forget: Prejean said her latest round of topless photos were due to a "windy day." We mean... come on!!!

Remember Katie Rees?

The former Miss Nevada 2007 was stripped of her crown when a series of racy photos of her were leaked soon after the coronation.

Now, following the announcement that Carrie Prejean won't receive the same punishment after her set of topless pics were released, Rees is speaking out. She told E! News the development is a "huge double standard."

"Semi-nude photos are semi-nude photos," Rees said, comparing the topless lingerie pics of Prejean with her own images (linked to above).

In December 2006, however, Miss Universe owner Donald Trump - the same man that said this is the "21st century" and the pics of Prejean were mostly "lovely" - deemed Rees' photos inappropriate and stripped Katie of her crown.

But what about the contracts both Rees and Prejean signed? Each stated that contestants must own up to any history of naked or semi-naked photographs.

Lost amidst Prejean's gay marriage stance is the simple fact that she violated her contract. What's the point of making such documents if there's no incentive to adhere to them?

"I don't know why I am the only one who was punished for their behavior," Rees said. "I was only 19 when those photos were taken of me, and it was me in my personal life, far before I was crowned Miss Nevada. Carrie actually posed for these professional semi-nude photos. I think that's worse."

You're totally right, Katie. But Prejean cited the Bible, said God spoke to her and got narrow-minded Christians on her side. See where you went wrong now?

Earlier today, at a press conference announcing the confirmation of Carrie Prejean as Miss California, that pageant's co-director said there would be peace in the Middle East if we sent Donad Trump over there.

Keith Lewis may have been exagerrating, but The Donald does appear to have brokered talks between Shanna Moakler and Prejean.

An Awful Human Being

"Thanks to Donald Trump, we were able to have a meeting with Miss Prejean and her family alone for the first time since the pageant," Moakler, the co-executive director of the pageant, told People. "We were able to sit down and communicate and vent our frustrations. I am confident that she will stay true to the contract. I'm looking forward to returning to L.A. and starting fresh."

Moakler added that the problem her and other officials had with Prejean was NOT related to her well-known beliefs on gay nuptials.

"Our issue was never about her opinions about same-sex marriage or the pictures. Our issue was with her complying with our agreement. When you sign the contract, we ask you to show us everything you are being offered. That wasn't happening. After the pageant, we lost control of our titleholder."

An understandable issue, no doubt.

Now, Moakler says, the air has been cleared and everyone can move forward. It's all she and Lewis ever wanted in the first place.

"She's part of our family. We care about her. But she's only 21 and we felt like she was being exploited. These people were not around for Miss USA, but they sure were afterward. They jumped on her bandwagon and tried to exploit her. We are trying to protect her."

Billy Arnone is a professional dirt bike racer and the brother of Carrie Prejean.

In a recent interview, he dispassionately defends his sister, while casually fighting back against rumors that he's a racist skinhead:

On being racist: I've never been a skinhead or racist. I ride dirt bikes with a lot of black guys.

On Carrie dating Michael Phelps: I don't think they're dating... they hung out a couple times.

On Prejean's reaction to the media frenzy: She's been doing good. She's a tough girl. [The media takes] the truth and twists it into a big lie.

We've been more interested in deli meat sales at the grocery store than Arnone seems to be in his sister's plight. Watch the interview below:

Do you think Donald Trump should have kept the Miss California crown on Prejean's head?

That may have been the worst 30 minutes of our lives.

We just sat through a press conference hosted by Donald Trump, the owner of the Miss USA pageant, as he spoke glowingly about Carrie Prejean and gave her the opportunity to stand on a soap box and peer down at the ignorant, hateful Americans that dared to question her right of free speech.

Before we detail the event in full, here's a nauseating rundown of the main points:

  • Prejean will remain Miss California USA;
  • Trump would love to have Perez Hilton as a judge again next year;
  • Carrie's grandfather fought at The Battle of the Bulge in World War II and (cue tears!) Carrie said what happened to her should NOT happen in America. It undermines the Constitutional rights her grandfather fought for.
  • Regarding the topless photos that were leaked this morning, Prejean said (READY FOR THIS????) that they were the result of a "windy day" and that she had no idea the photographer would ever release them.
  • Seriously, folks: Carrie Prejean claims the wind, and an immoral photographer, are to blame for this picture!

It bears repeating, over and over and over: Carrie Prejean says she is only showing a nipple in this photograph because it was a "windy day."

The press conference began with Trump, clearly loving the attention, summarizing the recent series of events involving Miss California. He said she gave an "honorable" answer to a controversial, fair question and that Carrie's response echoed that of the President of the United States.

He also said if Prejean's beauty wasn't so great, nobody really would have cared what she said. (Got that message, ladies? Ugly women needn't ever bother giving their opinions!)

Trump said he reviewed the semi-naked photos carefully and emphasized that this is the "21st century." He determined the photos were "fine... beautiful... risque.. and, in many cases, actually lovely."

Regarding Miss California officials Keith Lewis and Shanna Moakler, Trump said they met for hours with Prejean in his office. The miscommunication issues they had with her are "totally solved" and Carrie will make them proud.

It was then time for Prejean to read a statement from the podium.
