Their poor kids are probably going to have speech problems too growing up listenting to her. Please Bravo--fire Camilla and bring back Jaclyn Smith! NOW I know why she was host...her boyfriend connection. I love Shear Genius but having to hear her talk week after week soured me. My husband, after watching a part of one episode asked.."who is she and who does she know". The "know" part isn't exactly what his comment was but you get the idea. I hope her boyfriend doesn't dump her but certainly hope BRAVO does.

Camila Alves is beautiful to look at...seems pretty bright and her accent over dinner - probably is lovely & fine. But what the frig is she doing with a hosting gig? You wouldn't hire Gary Coleman to play basketball in the NBA. You wouldn't get Jesse James (Mr.Bullock)or Tiger Woods to be the National Chairperson for Fidelity. Or hire a person with Parkinson's Disease to be the lead hands during a brain surgery. She is just awful at the job. What crack pipe is Bravo currently smoking from? Her speech is horrific... and who the hell came up with the tag line "Ramablah thad har is umplumton"... ooops my bad that was Camila speaking.
Remember people need to understand what the heck you are saying if that is your actual job.

Well, like others, I googled Alves to see who this annoying host was. I have always thought that I had an ear for accents and was irritated by the Shear Genius host Alves. After reading these posts that largely share my thoughts, I am ashamed of myself. I should be more tolorant. People are more than one thing. She may not be the best at delivering her scripted lines, but that is no reason for me to be irritated. She is doing a job and doing it differently than some might. I returned to watching the rest of the show, more open, and enjoyed the rest. Be nice to others, no need to be hateful. Accept that she speaks differently, does things differently than the "Klums" might, and take in the program you tuned in to watch. I wish Alves all the best. Enjoy life! :)

OMG I thought it was just me. I HATE HER ACCENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and yes I know hate is a strong word but....OMG. My parents are Jamaican and I don't mind accents in general either but her accent is beyond annoying. It sounds almost fake, some of the words are stretched...it sounds like her tounge is swollen. UGH...overall it's just annoying and I can't describe it.

I don't know why Camila Alves speaks with such a thick accent when she has lived in the U.S. since she was 15 years old, and she is married to an American. Not that a non-native has to speak without an accent, but please - if you want to be an actress and on TV, people have to enjoy listening to you speak, not just watching you. Camila, please take advantage of your husband's film contacts and find a speech coach.

It has to be a speech impediment of some type. It's certainly not an accent - not from Brazil anyway, and not of any Hispanic flavor at all. And no, she doesn't have the signature dullness of a deaf person speaking, so it's not that also. But her diction is atrocious and she struggles so hard with SO many letters and sounds that she has to slow down so much just to get out the sentences. It's AWFUL! Let's just hope she uses some of her salary from this show to purchase some speech therapy ! I went to school for vocal music and had to learn to sing in SIX languages (that I don't understand, LOL). It is difficult to learn that many sounds authentically, but it can be mastered systematically barring any pathology.

AMEN! As I read the posts above, I kept nodding in agreement. I, too, kept putting off finding more about Camila and her awful speech. I have been muting the tv in order to avoid her. I cannot understand why in the world she in on this show. I am distracted beyond. Yes, she is very beautiful, but then, what does that have to do with her being a host? Also, that "hair is important" thing is silly. What could we all do in order for the show to consider replacing her next season?
I am contemplating not even watching in the future if she remains. It is as if we are so hard up that we have to scoop up somebody's girlfriend for hosting. That is not okay. There are plenty of qualified people who could do this job.
HELP! Get rid of her.

After watching another Shear Genius episode, I FINALLY remembered to Google, "Camilla Alves idiot host," and here's where it took me. Sorry but this girl was a nobody before Matthew Mc. and she's certainly no Heidi Klum who was successful at launching her career outside of the modeling world. People on the show keep referring to her as some super model? Really? If she was...she wasn't a famous one. I'm completely confused about why Bravo chose this unknown person to host what is actually a pretty good show. And my theory on her bizarre speech pattern and monotone voice (as well as the half-closed eyelids) is I think she's stoned. I mean, she is dating Matthew McConoughy, whose a big pot smoker. Just sayin'.

And "Remember-Hair is Important" WTF??? It's like watching public access television- you know the local community college sponsored feed with the class broadcasting projects? I am so glad that I am not the only person hearing this. Now I know that people from South America do not sound like that. The first time I heard her voice I thought she had to have overcome some hearing issue. Her voice sounds like she was deaf at one point and is still getting her speech together. Bravo why the hell would you do that??? Jaclyn Smith did such a terrific job on the show. And what the hell is "Remember Hair is Important"? I don't remember the previous host saying that. I dunno what credentials she has as far as hosting this type of show. I feel terrible for talking about her like this but I was searching high and low for some type of information on her and wondering if she did infact have a speech issue. I just keep finding message boards about her voice. UGHHH I hope they don't bring her back next season.

I agree with the poster who said it appears like she got this job because of her mate, Matthew McConnaughey, because she needs speech therapy to be better understood. Most of the time she talks, I'm so distracted by her diction, I forget what she just said. When one thinks of all the regular but talented and educated folks who've been working for years to get a job like like the one Camila holds here, and then Bravo gives it to someone who can't even speak clearly, I'm just mystified.
