Britney Spears is Seriously Messed Up in the Brain
Sources at UCLA Medical Center say Britney Spears has been classified as "G.D." - Gravely Disabled. That, experts say, is a huge, dangerous deal.
According to TMZ, who broke this story, that means the patient is unable to take care of basic needs like obtaining food, clothing or shelter.
Being G.D. is one of the criteria for involuntary commitment.
Several health care professionals say Britney Spears has been falling more and more into a "manic state" due to her bipolar disorder.
She arrived at the hospital Thursday morning around 2:15 a.m., but wasn't admitted until 4:15 a.m. because she was causing a scene.

This recent Britney Spears photo pretty much speaks for itself.
Flying off the handle, Britney accused her mother, Lynne Spears (who was there), of sleeping with her boyfriend, screaming:
"The only reason she's admitting me is because she wants to be alone with her boyfriend! She wants to sleep with my boyfriend!!"
Britney did not clarify if she meant Sam Lutfi or Adnan Ghalib.
In November, she made the same charge about Lynne and K-Fed.
When Spears calmed down, she talked about Sean Preston and Jayden James, how much she misses them and how it's unfair she's not with them.
We love making fun of Britney Spears as much as anyone, but the girl obviously needs help. Here's hoping she gets it this time.
TMZ also reports that the people treating Britney Spears are - thankfully - being praised by colleagues for their compassion and her credentials.
Kevin Federline Worried, Hopeful For Britney Spears
Kevin Federline is "extremely worried" about Britney Spears and feels the psychiatric hospital is the best place for her right now, People reports.
Laying low since Britney was hospitalized again Thursday morning, Federline "doesn't want her to get out until she's made progress," the source says. "This is obviously going to help her in the end - later, much later."
"He's worried. He doesn't even know what's going to happen next."
Federline, 29, was not directly involved in the latest events, "but he was aware of what was happening," says another source, a friend of K-Fed.
Kevin Federline and Britney Spears married in 2004, then split in 2006.
Unlike the first time Britney Spears was sent to the hospital, and she had them at her home, the kids were with Federline, who has sole custody.
"Kevin wants Britney to get better. He wants her to be in [Sean Preston and Jayden James'] lives. He wants them to have a loving relationship. He wants her to get healthy so she can be the mother they deserve," says a friend.
This is the second trip to a hospital in a month for Spears.
In early January, she was forced into the hospital following a standoff with police involving sons Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1.
A court commissioner later stripped Spears of visitation rights.
A third source close to K-Fed says that getting medical help for Spears, 26, "has been planned for a long time. Her family is behind this."
More Details From the Britney Spears Saga
If you thought this couldn't get weirder, you don't read enough Britney Spears news. But even we'll admit that this developing story is beyond bizarre.
After being taken from her home, sources inside UCLA Medical Center say Britney Spears checked into the facility this morning using an alias.
The sources say Britney said she was on Adderall, a stimulant used to treat Attention Deficit Disorder, and was taking up to 10 laxatives a day.
While Spears was described as "calm" this time (unlike January 3), for a time she was hurling profanities at her parents and staff.
When she was admitted, Britney accused her mom, Lynne Spears of "sleeping with my boyfriend." She wasn't specific on who she was referring to.
Adnan Ghalib? Sam Lutfi? Robbie Carrico? One can only guess.
TMZ also reports Britney's parents have made progress in the tug of war with Sam Lutfi over who's calling the shots when it comes to Brit's treatment.
UCLA is "fully cooperating" with Lynne and Jamie Spears in the treatment of Britney, however, a judge must still an order as to who has control.

Britney Spears - shown here arguing with Sam Lutfi this week - has been spiraling downward for months. Her family has worked hard to get her into treatment.
Also, Us Weekly reports that Britney Spears' inner circle chose to admit her to UCLA Medical Center because of its experience in treating bipolar disorder.
"Her lawyers and doctors were working with UCLA," a source cited by the celebrity news site says. "They were ready and had everything in place."
The facility is better prepared to treat the troubled singer than L.A.'s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she was hospitalized January 3-4.
"When she went to Cedars-Sinai they weren't ready for her," a source says.
"They have a much stricter unit at UCLA Medical Center and treat bipolar cases regularly. This is a serious unit she's on."
Britney Spears, who sources report has not slept in days, is under a "mental health evaluation hold" - commonly known as a "5150" - meaning she can be held for up to 72 hours if professionals deem her a danger to herself or others.
After those 72 hours of treatment, a patient's family can seek a 14-day extended evaluation or the patient himself/herself can decide to seek further treatment, according to the California Department of Mental Health.
Adnan Ghalib, Britney Spears Contemplate Life
Before being rushed to the hospital late Wednesday night, Britney Spears had a last meal (of sorts) at Jerry's Deli in Studio City, Calif.
With her was celebrity photographer and boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib. He looks deep in thought. What could Adnan be pondering? Some possibilities ...
- The state of humanity, our place in the universe
- Whether he left the burner on at home this morning
- How the U.S. will lessen its dependence on foreign oil
In any case, here are Britney and Adnan Ghalib, lost in thought ...

Adnan Ghalib and Britney Spears ponder life outside Jerry's Deli.
Early this morning, Britney Spears was admitted to UCLA Medical Center and placed on psychiatric hold. She will remain there for at least three days.
More updates to come soon on the saga that is the life of Britney, and the battle over control of the singer's important medical decisions...
Britney Spears on Three-Day Hold; Sam Lutfi, Parents Battling For Control of Singer's Medical Decisions
A L.A. County Superior Court judge has signed a "5150," meaning Britney Spears is on a three-day psychiatric hold at the UCLA Medical Center.
There is a "good possibility" it will be extended to 14 days.
There have been several concurrent attempts to get Britney on a 5150. Spears' own lawyers, Anne Kiley and Tara Scott, secured a new psychiatrist for her late last week - and he's the one who triggered the 5150 last night.
At the same time, we're told Britney's mother, father and brother have been "working closely with the LAPD for weeks" to get her psychiatric care.
Meanwhile, a bitter fight is taking place over who is in control as far as making the troubled star's medical decisions.
Insiders say Britney's parents, Lynne and Jamie Spears, are currently not calling the shots in making medical decisions on behalf of Britney.
Right now, it appears Sam Lutfi is in the driver's seat.
Sources close to the case say that after Britney's stay at Cedars-Sinai January 3, she had her lawyers draft up paperwork making it clear she did not want her parents involved in making any medical decisions on her behalf.
Jamie Spears (above) reportedly went ballistic, screaming and swearing at Sam Lutfi - even pushing him physically - right in front of Britney.
As to what paperwork she signed, if any, that's unclear.
If Britney signed a durable power of attorney, that could give someone power to make medical decisions on her behalf in an emergency.
No such document was reportedly signed, but somehow Britney Spears made it clear she wanted Sam Lutfi - not her folks - to make decisions.
Right now, the doctors at UCLA are working with Osama, not Jamie and Lynne Spears. Lawyers are involved and a judge will have to sort it out.
More to come throughout the day. Follow the jump for more details on how Britney was hospitalized in the early hours of the morning ...
Britney Spears Hospitalized For Psychiatric Evaluation
For the second time this month, police involuntary committed Britney Spears early Thursday morning, hours after celebrity news media outlets reported that her psychiatrist determined she was a danger to herself and others.
At approximately 1 a.m., dozens of LAPD officers along with an ambulance arrived at Spears' home in the Summit Circle community of Beverly Hills.
Less than 20 minutes later, she was transported to UCLA Medical Center. Britney is being placed on an emergency psychiatric hold, known as a 5150.
Britney Spears, as you recall, had been involuntarily committed January 3 after a mental breakdown at her home and a subsequent three-hour police standoff.
The ambulance was seen pulling out of the side entrance of Britney Spears' gated Summit community at 1:20 a.m. Her mother, Lynne Spears, was seen riding in an SUV as part of the police escort caravan leaving the area.
Her father, Jamie Spears, and her brother, Bryan Spears, arrived at the hospital just minutes after Britney was brought in. Her manager / friend, Sam Lutfi, and possible cousin, Alli Sims, also were seen entering the building.
Much more to come as the story developing ...
Adnan Ghalib, Sam Lutfi Fighting Over Britney Spears
Britney Spears' "manager," Sam Lutfi, sent a series of angry text messages to her boyfriend Adnan Ghalib, warning the celebrity news photographer he was "killing her" and setting off Sunday night's massive blowup.
The spat erupted after a hysterical Britney Spears was pictured sitting barefoot outside her L.A. home, sobbing on the pavement.
Adnan Ghalib received text messages from Sam Lufti which read:
- "You're a manic trigger. If you continue to have any contact with her, you'll kill her."
- "It's your decision. You need to cease all contact with her completely."
- "I've tried to work with you helping her but you didn't do as asked only way to help now is disappear. She's never been this way before."

The drama came when Britney reportedly fought with Lutfi over her tryst with Adnan Ghalib, prompting the singer to call Ghalib for help.
Ghalib arrived, but was denied entry to the premises as uber-shady Osama Lutfi warned security not to let him in - and turned Britney's many mobile phones off to ensure he could not reach her, according to the Daily Mail.
The feud between Adnan Ghalib and Sam Lutfi has been raging for weeks.
"They hate each other," says a source, adding that: "Sam doesn't think Adnan is good enough for Britney and Adnan hates the control Sam somehow has on her. Britney is just caught in the middle."
Sam Lutfi reportedly initiated the argument over Adnan Ghalib, warning Britney Spears that her photographer boyfriend is a bad influence.
Talk about the pot calling the kettle brown.
Britney later left with another paparazzo (we think Filipi Teixeira) before meeting up with Ghalib as her father, Jamie Spears, and police arrived.
Many media observers believe that the pair's differences also center on which celebrity photo agency Britney chooses to align herself with.
Ghalib works for Finalpixx. Lutfi is rumored to have a deal in place with X17 in which they take Britney Spears photos and he gets a cut.
Britney Spears Drives Around, Makes Inane Comments
That family intervention needs to happen real quick.
In full-out British mode Monday night, Britney Spears asked a celebrity news photographer where his "f**k buddy" was and told him "gay videos are in."
So is gay bashing, evidently. Check out the video of this.

British Britney Spears: Friendly, but not politically correct.
Then, late last night, Spears gave another celebrity photo guy the death stare (from behind sunglasses) after he dared try to open the car door for her.
Wearing her trademark pink wig, Spears was seen at Rite-Aid at 5 a.m. When asked about her new car - the one Sam Lutfi allegedly made her buy, then got pissed when it was reported - she said, "Oh, it's a rental."
A rental, she says. Too bad we can't rent out the space in Britney Spears' head. It's clear that there's not a whole lot going on up there these days.
Sam Lutfi to Britney Spears' Family: You're Just Jealous!
Sam Lutfi is pissed!
Britney Spears' "friend" and "manager" is taking issue with stories on celebrity news sites that say Brit's family believes Lutfi is a cancer.
Lutfi called TMZ's head honcho, Harvey Levin, to report that there was no intervention Monday, but then said Britney's family "barged in."
For the record, TMZ says Britney Spears' family is trying to plan an intervention to get her help for mental problems, and Lutfi is in the dark.
Sam Lutfi said of Britney Spears' parents:
"They have an agenda. Their agenda is jealously because they don't fit in. I do. They see her three times a year."

Somehow, these two have been inseparable for some time.
Britney was by the phone during Lutfi's talk with TMZ. Sam claimed that he did not force Britney to buy a car (yesterday), asking Spears, "Did I force you to buy a car." In a heavy southern accent, she responded, "No."
He continued, "Do I ever bug you?" She replied, "We argue."
THG NOTE: If that's what you want to call that huge fight Monday ...
Lutfi said Britney's mom, Lynne Spears, is fine with him - it's her father, Jamie Spears, who's a problem. Sources say that's complete bull$h!t.
Both Lynne and Jamie Spears "are on the same page," sources say, in believing that Osama Lutfi is a "megalomaniac" motivated by "evil."
Britney Spears, Lynne Spears Sort of Patch Things Up
Britney Spears is having some family bonding time with her mom - but the pair have been seen arguing frequently, according to sources.
Lynne Spears, who arrived in Los Angeles Monday, accompanied her 26-year-old daughter and pal Sam Lutfi to a Mercedes dealership in Beverly Hills Tuesday morning - but it wasn't exactly a happy family outing.
"Lynne and Britney were arguing in the car the whole time. They're upset and arguing, not having a good time at all," an onlooker tells People.
After 15 minutes, Britney drove an Escalade off the lot, then "pulled over to the side of the road to argue with her mom more." adds the onlooker.
The previous night, Lynne Spears visited her daughter's home, but then was left pacing around the house as Britney left to meet Adnan Ghalib.
"Lynne Spears, at one point said, 'I just want to give her a hug. I'm very worried," says a source. "Lynne was so nervous and worried, she just kept asking how they could get her daughter back home."
When the pop star returned, Lynne, Britney and several friends including Alli Sims and Sam Lutfi, had a "family bonding session."
But the family time does not seem to have changed Britney's behavior. On Tuesday afternoon, she and Sam Lutfi visited a nearby J. Crew store, where an onlooker described her as "totally out of it."
"She was talking in a slight accent. It was a little bit of a British accent," says the witness. "She kept to herself, quiet, she just wanted to go. She really wanted some gum and she kept asking Sam for it and got frustrated when he didn't have any. Her mood lifted when she found some in her bag."
Time for an intervention, people?
