Britney Spears and Jason Trawick have broken up, the singer confirms.

The split follows weeks, if not months of rumors that the relationship was on shaky ground, and the same day as she confirmed quitting The X Factor.

"Britney Spears and Jason Trawick have mutually agreed to end their one-year engagement," her rep, Jeff Raymond, told People this evening.

"As two mature adults, [Britney and Jason] came to the difficult decision to go their separate ways while continuing to remain friends," Raymond added.

Spears and Trawick confirmed their breakup in a statement as well.

After weeks of speculation, Britney Spears has confirmed what we already knew - that she's quitting The X Factor after her first and only season last fall.

"I've made the very difficult decision not to return for another season," Brit tells ET Online in a statement, adding that Fox was informed of her decision.

"I had such an incredible time doing the show and I love the other judges and I am so proud of my teens but it's time for me to get back in the studio."

Britney Spears thinks having her fiance, Jason Trawick, as her co-conservator is a total buzzkill for their relationship and wants him gone ASAP, reports say.

In that role, he is in charge of her finances and other decisions; the singer has been under the legal conservatorship since melting down in early 2008.

“Britney wants Jason removed. He was appointed to the position when she joined The X Factor so that he could be with her at all times while on set,” a source says.

“The relationship has been more than slightly rocky in the past few months and Brit attributes that to having her man essentially being one of her babysitters."

Rumors are swirling that Britney will be fired as a judge, exiting the total mess of a show alongside L.A. Reid. But Fox president Kevin Reilly says he's not sure.

"For next year, I don't know," Reilly he said of Spears' return, but said "yeah" when asked if he was on board to bring the 31-year-old megastar back.

According to The Smoking Gun, Kevin Federline's brother did NOT file any lawsuit against his former pop star sister-in-law, as was reported widely last week.

The whole story, in actuality, is a hoax perpetrated by an ex-convict who was recently busted for violating his probation on a conspiracy and wire fraud conviction.
