They won't be competing against each other, but it's nevertheless on between Duets and The X Factor.

On the ABC Upfront party red carpet this week, John Legend - one of the four singers who will be teaming up with amateurs across the country on the new singing competition - was asked about the new X Factor judges, Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, and replied:

"You know it's interesting. It should be very interesting. I don't have much to say," Legend told E! News. "It's interesting when people, you know, are judging singing competitions when they aren't really singers."

Ouch! Interesting is one diplomatic word for it, yes.

Robin Thicke, who will also appear on Duets, gave the young ladies some credit at least: "Oh come on, everything Britney does, she excels at. Demi is a lovely young lady, and I'm sure they'll do nothing but make the show a lot more fun to watch."

Which of these X Factor judges has you most excited?

Demi Lovato and Britney Spears met the press yesterday.

Officially announced as season two judges on The X Factor, the singers posed for photos and greeted journalists and advertisers at the FOX Upfront in New York City - and Lovato even kept her hair dyed for the occasion.

“I am totally stoked to be here,” Lovato told attendees at the event. “I’m excited to represent my generation and I’m ready to find the winner.”

But is she ready to criticize? Since leaving rehab, Lovato has been adamant in telling fans that it's okay to be yourself, that confidence is the key to happiness. A great message, no doubt. But does it really jibe with being a reality show judge?

Weigh in now: Which new panelist has you most excited?

Britney Spears and Demi Lovato will join L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell as judges on The X Factor, Fox confirmed at its upfront presentation this afternoon.

Spears, one of the most successful and celebrated artists in pop music history, gives the show A-list star power as it gears up for its sophomore season.

Lovato is no slouch herself, having become an accomplished singer and actress with a devoted and engaged young fan base. Not bad for the age of 19.

“I'm absolutely delighted that Britney and Demi are joining us,” said Cowell, who removed Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger at the end of last season.

“Britney Spears remains one of the biggest stars in the world, she's talented, fascinating – and I believe she knows exactly how to spot The X Factor."

"Demi's had an amazing career in music, TV and film for someone her age. She's young, confident, and enthusiastic," he added of his other panelist.

"It's important that she speaks to our younger audience. The new panel will be dynamic and will work really well with the changes to the show.”

Now that it's official, Howard Stern is excited for Britney Spears to serve as an X Factor judge. But not for the reasons Simon Cowell is likely hoping for.

"I think it’s a wonderful decision," Stern said today at a New York's Friars Club press conference. "Britney still thinks the earth is flat... I think we’re going to tune in to see her, to see if she can function through the thing. As far as any real criticism, I think Simon and LA Reid will do that. As far as criticism, I think Britney will sit there and eat a lollipop and wear a sexy outfit...

"I'll tune in to see what kind of train wreck she is, absolutely."

Stern himself will enter the world of reality TV judging on Monday when he debuts as an America's Got Talent panelist. Which of these new judges are you more excited about?

Britney Spears will in fact be a judge on The X Factor this fall, sources have confirmed. The partnership was all but certain weeks ago, but now it's official.

After months of eight-figure negotiations, the star has finally signed her contract to join Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid as a judge on the Fox series.

Spears will get $15 million for one season of work.

Britney Spears, Twister

She had agreed in principle to the deal weeks ago and had spent the last few days working out the fine print, which has finally been ironed out.

"The contract is signed," reveals a source close to her. "There's been a lot of back and forth over the past few weeks, but she's on. It's all completed."

"She's ready for this," the insider continues. "She can't wait to sit down next to Simon at the judges' table and give this everything she's got."

Britney "is beyond excited about showing the world that she can do this, and do this well. This is the perfect next stage in her career."

Cowell blew up the cast at the end of its inaugural season, keeping Reid but firing judges Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and host Steve Jones.

With Britney on board, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato have both been rumored for the final spot on the panel, with Lovato the favorite.

Will Britney make a good X Factor judge?

Just a few days after calling Christina Aguilera a bitch (a total bitch, to be more specific), The Wanted is dishing on Britney Spears in less-than-glowing fashion.

The British boy band said in a radio interview yesterday that they were told "not to even look" at the pop princess when they opened for her in concert.

Spears' camp denies, and is far from pleased with the claim.

Britney Spears, The Wanted

"What's even more interesting than these false allegations is the fact that they have claimed to be picked on by two female pop stars in just a few days," her rep says.

"Look out Lady Gaga, there are still three days left this week."

The Wanted said the Spears incident happened while Siva Kaneswaran and their tour manager were looking at a laptop in a hallway. Security ordered them to turn away, supposedly, because Brit was about to come through, they said.

"We faced the wall for about 10 seconds until she got really far away," Kaneswaran said.

Britney Spears' sons Sean and Jayden sure know how to have fun.

The singer Tweeted a trippy semi-animated video of the boys, ages 6 and 5 respectively, dancing to "We No Speak Americano" by Yolanda Be Cool & Dcup.

Carrying a toy light saber, Sean does most of the dancing. "We shot a fun video for y'all," Spears writes. "Hint: it involves my boys. More to come, I promise!"

One can only hope. It's nice to see her kids playing and doing weirdly cute stuff like any other children that age. Check out the video posted by Britney below:

Britney Spears' fiance Jason Trawick is officially her newest conservator, meaning he has the legal power to govern the pop star's financial, legal and medical affairs.

Britney's dad and conservator Jamie Spears filed the petition earlier this month, asking the court to add Jason as co-conservator. A judge agreed to the request.

Spears also wanted Jason, her former agent, on board as co-conservator.

After the hearing, Jamie was "thrilled," and the move makes total sense, since the two are set to be married. Spears and Trawick got engaged in December.

As co-conservator, Jason Trawick is now empowered to help decide how she will earn and spend her money, including the $15 million deal with The X Factor.

The reason for the conservatorship is that after her meltdowns of 2007-2008, a judge determined she lacked the capacity to make these decisions herself.

By setting up the conservatorship, the judge protected B from some of the leeches that surrounded her and put the power in Jamie's hands, and now Jason's.

Ridiculous as it all seems now, Spears could file papers to end the conservatorship altogether, but she has not done so. So it can't be all bad for her.

Britney Spears has agreed to sell her Beverly Hills estate for $4,253,000, which is pretty impressive considering the palatial pad was listed at $2,995,000.

Since Britney is under a conservatorship, the probate process could have meant a hearing which essentially turned into a bidding war. But it won't.

Britney's father and lawyers didn't want to risk losing the buyer and asked the judge to cancel the hearing. They got their wish, and the sale is final.

Britney Spears' House

The house, of course, is the site of her infamous meltdown in early 2008, during which police arrived and she was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold.

Fortunately, that also marked the beginning of her career turnaround.

Even though Spears got significantly more than the asking price, she bought the estate in 2007 for $6.8 million. Darn you, California housing market.

On the flip side, she's reportedly making $15 million for The X Factor this fall, and earns more than $800,000 a month from music and other sales.

She'll live.

Cheesa's Whitney Houston cover brought the house down, but Tony Lucca's unorthodox song choice also served notice that he's a contender on The Voice:

"Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears.

Lucca, who was famously slammed by Christina Aguilera a few weeks back, came up with a terrific rebuttal against his fellow former Mousketeer.

This rocking version of Brit's breakout hit:

"That was really smart," Blake Shelton said of the bold song pick, which got him through until at least tonight. His coach, Adam Levine, added, "You did something different and refreshing and I'm so proud of you for having the courage to do it."

Will America vote Tony through to the semifinals tonight?

If not, do you think Adam (who cut Pip loose on last night's instant elimination episode) will take his protege to the next round? Tell us below.
