Like Zac Efron, Bristol Palin celebrated turning another year older (and hopefully wiser, especially about using protection) yesterday on the 18th of October.

You can forgive us for missing the big day yesterday, however.

After all, the eldest daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, to gained notoriety for getting knocked up last year, has kept a rather low profile of late.

Unlike baby daddy Levi Johnston, who's looking to cash in on his 15 minutes of fame by posing nude and doing commercials for nuts, she's gone AWOL.

Good for Bristol Palin.

Here's a little photo tribute to the mother of baby Tripp, and one of America's favorite unwed teen moms, who just celebrated her 19th birthday ...

Levi Johnston has a good gig.

Just 19 years old, he lives his life largely out of the limelight, but once in awhile gets a nice paycheck to dish about former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, whose teenage daughter he famously impregnated in early 2008. Nice work!

Vanity Fair is the latest to profile America's most beloved unwed teen baby daddy. In the magazine's October issue, Levi explains what happened behind the scenes of the 2008 campaign for the White House - and inside the Palin home.

Johnston wastes little time dispelling myths about the former Alaska Governor ...

Levi on Sarah's parenting: "There wasn’t much ... The kids do it all themselves: cook, clean, do the laundry, get ready for school. Most of the time [Bristol Palin] would help her sister with homework. I’d barbecue chicken or steak on the grill."

Levi and Mrs. Palin

On Sarah's reaction to him knocking up Bristol: "Sarah told me she had a great idea: we would keep it a secret - nobody would know that Bristol was pregnant. She told me that once Bristol had the baby she and Todd would adopt him."

"Sarah kept mentioning this. She wouldn’t give up. She would say, 'So, are you gonna let me adopt him?' We kept telling her definitely not. I think that Sarah didn’t want people to know her 17-year-old daughter was going to have a kid."

On Palin's response to criticism that John McCain lost because of her: "She thought she was running for president. She'd say 'I brought everything to the table' and 'the majority of people were out there voting because of me!'"

On Sarah changing post-campaign: "Sarah walked around the house pouting ... one or two weeks after she got back, she started talking about how nice it would be to quit, write a book or do a show and make 'triple the money.'"

Quality stuff, and certainly there will be plenty more where that came from. Just write Levi Johnston a check and he'll bash Sarah all you like!

Here's a behind-the-scenes video of Levi's photo shoot with Vanity Fair ...

Bristol Palin's baby daddy, Levi Johnston, hasn't trashed the Palin family in a few weeks, so we're so glad he found a mic at Sunday's Teen Choice Awards (yes, he went) and told the world what he thinks of Bristol's campaign for abstinence.

"I don't buy it," Levi told Radar Online. "The first time it [the subject of abstinence] came around, she said it wasn't realistic. Now she says it is. So I think she caught herself in a little thing there. I don't buy it. It's all a show."

Strong words from Johnston, although pretty accurate.

As for the mother of Bristol Palin, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, Levi says he's back on good terms with for the sake of his new baby, Tripp.

But that didn't stop him from saying how her marriage has been in trouble for some time, and ultimately led to her resignation as Alaska governor.

When we asked if his would-have-been in-laws, Sarah and Todd Palin, had marital problems, Levi responded: "Oh yeah. There have been from day one."

Asked if he thought marital problems were the reason she stepped down as governor, Levi Johnston again didn't hesitate: "Oh yeah, I definitely do."

He also said Sarah Palin will be chasing bigger paychecks now that she’s out of office and on the speaker circuit. “She took the money,” Johnston said.

“That’s what she’s talked about for awhile now, that’s what I’m gathering and I think that’s what she’s doing,” shared the 19-year-old aspiring actor.

Not sure how long he'll be in their good graces after this, but we're glad he shared - and we look forward to Meghan Stapleton's ridiculous response.

We wanna leave Bristol Palin alone. We really do.

Each time we write about the new mother, a few readers take our staff to task for featuring stories on this poor, innocent youth that, apparently, never understood the consequences of unprotected sex until she got pregnant.

Bristol Palin Legs

But we aren't the ones that put Bristol on the cover of People!

If you have a problem with celebrity gossip blogs taking digs at the young mom and her baby daddy, please direct your complaints to a certain attention-starved former Vice Presidential candidate in Wasilla, Alaska.

That being said, the latest excerpt from People's cover story on Bristol focuses on her relationship with Levi Johnston; or, specifically, his relationship with son Tripp.

"I know Levi will be a part of Tripp's life," Bristol says in the latest issue of the magazine. "I know he loves him."

While it may seem as though Palin and her ex-lover get along worse than Yankee and Red Sox fans - following a round of TV interviews in which Levi criticized the Palin family for trying to restrict them from time with Tripp - Bristol says things were never that bad.

"I don't think we were ever at war at all," she said.

Added Todd Palin: "I think it's all going to be fine. Tripp needs to share time with Levi's family. When Levi came to pick him up the other day, Tripp was smiling. It's a special time for a baby and his dad."

Just like giving interviews to various tabloids is a special time for a father and his daughter, right Todd?

Last week, Bristol Palin was just one of millions of students across these United States to graduate from high school and begin the rest of her life.

But her pretty face was nowhere to be seen on the overhead screen as images from her high-school senior slideshow – photos from the prom and a Class of 2009 portrait set against the Alaska snow – played during Wasilla High's commencement.

Did it make her sad to have missed out on the senior-year fun – and to spend graduation night quietly at home, giving 5-month-old son Tripp a bottle?

Bristol, the eldest daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, answers somewhat impatiently, like any multitasking mom: "I have other things to worry about."

In just the past nine months, Bristol Palin has weathered her mom's bid for the Vice Presidency, a failed engagement to baby daddy Levi Johnston, and a pregnancy that made her both a mother at 18 and a poster child for teen sexuality.

Bristol Palin and Her Baby

She is uncertain where she will go to college, but high school grad Bristol Palin says her future will definitely include advocating for teen pregnancy prevention.

"Girls need to imagine and picture their life with a screaming newborn baby and then think before they have sex," she says. "Think about the consequences."

"If girls realized the consequences of sex, nobody would be having sex," adds Bristol Palin, sitting at her parents' lakeside patio table. "Trust me. Nobody."

What is this, 1965? People realize the consequences of having sex ... she probably meant to throw "unprotected" in there, we're guessing. The irony here is that the new abstinence advocate makes a far better argument for sex education.

As for her breakup with Levi Johnston, 19, with whom she's still trying to resolve child support and visitation issues, she believes it was for the best.

"I'm thankful we didn't get married because if it wasn't going to work now, it wasn't going to work in five years," the 18-year-old solemnly says.

Like Donna Martin years ago, Bristol Palin has managed to overcome one drunken mistake to graduate along with the rest of her high school classmates.

Looking like just another high school senior, America's most famous teen mom took the stage in Wasilla Sports Complex last night to receive a diploma.

Of course, she was still more worried mom than irreverent teen.

"Where's my baby?" Bristol mouthed, searching the front rows crowd where her proud family sat until she finally spotted son Tripp near the back door.

Bristol spotted and waved to her little guy - held by her Aunt Heather and being fed a bottle – and crossed "graduate high school" off her to-do list.

Previously checked off that list? Levi Johnston.

"I knew it would be hard work, but I knew I was going to do it," Bristol, 18, said, referring to finishing high school even after giving birth.

Her mom, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the former Republican V.P. nominee, was not always so sure she could do it. Palin said one of her first thoughts when Bristol announced her pregnancy last spring was, "Oh, there goes her education."

"And that's why I'm so proud of her ... and really relieved," said Sarah, who yesterday voiced support for another controversial figure in Carrie Prejean.

"It has been a very challenging and exciting year - her senior year - and I'm so pleased that we are where we are today," the Alaska Governor added.

Bristol Palin boasted a 3.497 GPA, "point zero-something" away from graduating with Honors. Now a budding activist supporting the prevention of teen pregnancy, she says she hopes to go to an area college and obtain a business degree.

Congratulations, Bristol!

Facing a May 18 trial date on charges of selling OxyContin, Sherry Johnston - the mother of Levi Johnston - says relations between her family and that of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin are thawing, and that she saw grandson Tripp at her own home.

"When Bristol came to pick up Tripp this week, she said if we want him more often, all I have to do is call ... She said if I want to come to their house, I can come over and see him all the time," Sherry Johnston, 42, tells Momlogic.com.

"I am hopeful we'll be able to work together to raise Tripp."

The families have been feuding in recent weeks as Levi embarks on a whirlwind media tour for some ridiculous reason, talking about boning Bristol and feeling sorry for himself for not getting to spend more time with his son.

Johnston, who spent Mother's Day with Levi and his twin sister Mercede, said she sent a Mother's Day text message to Tripp's mom, Bristol Palin, May 10.

Three generations of Johnstons: Sherry, Levi and Tripp.

But despite signs of easing of the tension between the two Alaskan families, Sherry says she still would like to see her baby grandson more often.

Perhaps she should have considered that before getting involved - allegedly, sorry - in dealing prescription drugs. Not great for the reputation, typically.

"We see him a few hours a week, but I did spend time with him this morning. It tears me apart. Every time I see him he's a different child."

"Before he wasn't rolling over, now he is," Sherry Johnston added. "Now he's trying to crawl. I am missing him so much that it tears me up."

Johnston pleaded innocent to all charges and says she got hooked on the opiate after a hysterectomy that led to seven additional surgeries.

Their parents were paired together on the Republican ticket in the 2008 election. Now Meghan McCain and Bristol Palin are both speaking up on premarital sex.

Bristol, a teen mom and the daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is now a "teen ambassador" for the Candie's Foundation, and an advocate for abstinence.

You cannot make this stuff up.

Meghan McCain doesn't see eye-to-eye with her counterpart, though.

Senator John McCain's daughter, 24, says that Bristol Palin has a right to her opinion and she respects it, but there's a lot more to consider on the topic of sex.

"Daughters of Republican politicians aren't expected to have sex, let alone enjoy it - as if there were some chastity belt automatically attached to us female offspring," she writes in her column for The Daily Beast.

"God forbid that anyone talk realistically about life experiences and natural, sexual instincts. Nope, the answer is always abstinence."

So if Meghan McCain is not advocating abstinence only, like Bristol Palin is, what is her proposed solution to prevent unwanted teenage pregnancies?

"Honestly, the key is communication between parents and children. At the end of the day, the worst thing parents can do is raise children who are not prepared for the situations they may encounter, especially when they’re not planned," she says.

And she's not taking it easy on her dad's party either.

"Unfortunately, Republicans typically don’t like to discuss or deal with things they think are wrong or immoral. And that’s a huge mistake," she writes in her column, appropriately called "The GOP Doesn't Understand Sex."

"If we can’t discuss birth control in addition to abstinence, in a non-judgmental way, kids will make bad choices for lack of access to informed, safe options."

So what she's saying is, teens may have unprotected sex, get knocked up, be forced into sham engagements to their thuggish baby-daddies, and have their allowance raised if they agree to become spokespersons for sham abstinence groups?

Makes sense to us. Click to enlarge more Meghan McCain pictures ...

You gotta love any event that brings Bristol Palin and Hayden Panettiere together ... even if many teenage males would have preferred a threesome to some forum extolling the virtues of abstinence and fighting teenage pregnancy.

The Heroes star, 19, and America's most famous unwed teen mom (sorry Jamie Lynn Spears), 18, attended the Candie's Foundation town hall meeting on teen pregnancy prevention for National Teen Pregnancy Awareness Day in NYC.

Oh, The Passion

"It's a topic that's not talked about enough," Hayden said. "This is just a human thing. It's natural, it's what everyone does, but most people don't realize how serious things are until it directly impacts them and their lives."

"As a young female you go, 'Oh, it'll never happen to me, oh, it happens to people, but it'll never happen to me,' and then it does happen."

Hayden was not asked what type of birth control she uses. Come on, there's no way Milo Ventimiglia and Stephen Colletti didn't hit that.

Hayden Panettiere and Bristol Palin. Together at last.

Although Panettiere hadn't met Bristol Palin until the event, she was happy the unwed mother could serve as a fellow teenage ambassador for the Candie's Foundation, essentially becoming the new abstinence poster child.

"It's nice that she's come out to support this," Hayden said. "Teens get to look at her, and she can say, 'This happened to me.' This is all politics aside. She is just a girl out here saying, 'Look, it happened to me - it can happen to you.'"

Hayden stopped short of explicitly promoting abstinence, however she said she believes teenagers need to be more responsible when sexually active.

"There's a lot of different viewpoints on sex, and I'm not someone who will ever boo-hoo anything or say, 'This is not right,' or, 'This is wrong,'" she said.

"You're going to do what you're going to do, but at the end of the day, it's okay as long as you educate yourself, as long as you're safe, and smart."

Promoting sexual abstinence for fellow teens in appearances on ABC's Good Morning America and NBC's Today show this morning, Bristol Palin was questioned on how exactly she can preach something she obviously didn't practice.

Declining to discuss what methods of birth control she may or may not have used, Bristol, 18, told GMA's Christopher Cuomo, "Regardless of what I did personally, abstinence is the only ... 100 percent foolproof way to prevent pregnancy."

Bristol Palin also acknowledged that abstinence is "difficult."

Later, sexy beast Matt Lauer asked on Today what message she was sending by talking about not having babies while she was holding her sleeping son, Tripp.

"I'm just here to tell teens this is a really hard job," Palin replied.

The TV appearances, in which she was joined by her father, Todd Palin, were keyed to Bristol's new role as the Candie's Foundation's ambassador for a national campaign to raise awareness about the consequences of teen pregnancy.

She was asked about her former fiancé - and the father of her child - Levi Johnston, who appeared on various talk shows last month and spoke candidly about banging her and about his icy relations with the Palin family over Tripp.

"I'm not here to talk about my personal life," Palin said, though she did add, with no further explanation, that "I'd love Levi to be part of [Tripp's] life."
