We all know that text messages can sometimes be hilarious. Like when they're sent by mom.

Or if the the characters on Game of Thrones ever learned how to text.

But sometimes it's best to just put your phone away and think twice - nay, three times! - before picking it back up and hitting Send.

Like when you're slamming a famous ex-girlfriend and her untalented lady parts. Or when you're a married professional golfer and you wanna bang a porn star. Or when your name is Anthony Weiner.

Below, THG presents 13 of the most well-known celebrity text message scandals of all-time, with far too many involving penis photos and one too many involving a bloodied, beaten Rihanna:

Justin Bieber vs. Selena Gomez
They've gotten back together and broken up again since, but in January 2014, Justin Bieber allgedly texted Selena Gomez to keep her "talentless [lady part]" away from him.

Who are the most overexposed celebrities in Hollywood?

According to a recent survey, Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian top this list.

But a future Hall of Fame quarterback, an ex-congressman and a singer known for beating up on women are at the forefront of a different kind of overexposed rundown, one that focuses on the male genitalia.

Indeed, all seven of the men pictured here have revealed their penises in unusual, typically inappropriate manners. And - shocker! - nearly every time, the private part has become a matter of public record.

Click away now and, don't worry, the photos below actually are safe for work:

Brett Favre
Brett Favre didn't just send another woman a photo of his penis in 2010. He did so while married... and the other woman was an employee of the team for whom he played.

Brett Favre should have called it a career in 2009.

His final season was marred by injuries, on-field mediocrity and Jenn Sterger, a former New York Jets employee who reportedly received suggestive voicemails, sexual texts and totally unsolicited pictures of Brett Favre naked.

Now Jenn Sterger is ready to tell her side of the story.

This week, Sterger is opening up publicly for the first time, six months after news of Favre’s alleged inappropriate behavior became an Internet scandal.

“I just want my life back,” she tells George Stephanopoulos in a Good Morning America interview to air today and tomorrow. “That’s all I’m asking for.”

In a sense, Sterger’s sit-down with a news outlet was as inevitable as a costly, forced Favre INT (we went there). But why now, when this is all over?

Jenn Sterger and NFL fans everywhere have seen as much of Brett Favre as they can stomach, but the man has many fans and know how to spark debate.

That's why one fellow Dancing With the Stars alum and NFL MVP would love to see him follow in his footsteps and shake his booty on the hit show this year.

Preferably without sexting pics of his junk during rehearsal.

"Let me think on what old retired NFL guy should join the show," Kurt Warner told PopEater. "Brett Favre. That's a good idea. Controversy is good for ratings."

Kurt, who made it within one episode of the finals in his appearance, previously criticized Favre for the off-field sexting shenanigans that dented his legacy.

"I do think [that] hurt his legacy to some degree," he said. "I do think people look at him differently now - at least in the short term - than five years ago."

Amanda Oswald, the mystery masseuse who Brett Favre hit on in 2008, says she won't be pursuing a case against the man. Simply put, he did nothing wrong.

Aside from propositioning a masseuse while married, that is.

Jenn Sterger may tell a different story, but Oswald says Favre deals with sext rejection well knows just when to back off when his audibles go awry.

At least one of Favre's "targeted receivers" isn't resentful.

Amanda Oswald was hired by the New York Jets to work on Brett for a day in 2008, after which he sent a text message soliciting her for a sexual encounter.

Oswald says unlike two other two Brett Favre accusers - both masseuses who worked on Jets players on the day she was contracted - she is letting it go.

She won't pursue a case because she doesn't feel Brett violated her.

Facing a slew of charges, including the manufacturing of meth, Brandi Favre is seeking help from a well-known source: her record-breaking, penis-texting brother of a former NFL quarterback.

With sources confirming that Brandi and Brett Favre are "very close," TMZ reports the 34-year Mississippi woman plans on reaching out to her sibling for whatever guidance he can provide.

Can Brett Favre come up with a last-minute victory for his sister?

Of Brandi - who has been arrested in the past for shoplifting and unlawful use of a weapon - attorney Richard Dymond says she "is a good person."

No word yet from anyone in Brett's camp, but we know how this works: he'll likely take months to decide what to do, dragging out the dilemma in the press, only to eventually take action and throw away Brandi's last chance in an ill-advised, last-ditch effort of some kind.

Brandi Favre has found a way to avoid talking to the public about her brother's penis: she's been arrested as part of a meth lab bust in Mississippi.

The younger sibling of the (likely) retired quarterback was one of five people rounded up inside a condo where a cooking station was hidden, reports WLOX. The suspects were taken to a local medical center for decontamination before being thrown in jail.

Brandi has been charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and generating hazardous waste.

Brett Favre's two masseuse accusers say they were nixed by the Jets in a bid to get their jobs back and that's why they're press their case against the QB.

Before they sued Favre for sexual harassment, they made a last ditch appeal to the team , but were both denied, according to an attorney for the women.

Christina Scavo and Shannon O'Toole sent a letter in November asking the Jets to rehire them. They claim the Jets stopped doing so after Favre's incident.

Will Brett Favre have a lawsuit dismissal to celebrate?

Scavo says her husband called and confronted Favre on the phone about lewd text messages he allegedly sent proposing a rendezvous with the women.

The two massage therapists and the Jets went back and forth, but ultimately the NFL franchise refused to put Scavo and O'Toole back on the payroll.

Only then did they decide to sue Favre and the team to recoup lost wages.

That'll be a legal stretch. Scavo and O'Toole were never officially "terminated" by the Jets, since they weren't Jets employees, but contracted workers.

We have no idea what these women look like, but to see the other woman Favre is accused of harassing, check out these Jenn Sterger pictures!

Brett Favre really enjoyed his one season in New York.

The NFL legend, who delivered his annual retirement speech Monday, is being sued by massage therapists Christina Scavo and Shannon O'Toole, who worked for the New York Jets in 2008. The franchise is also named in the lawsuit.

This is unrelated to the $50,000 fine Brett received from the NFL last week in conjunction with the Jenn Sterger sexting / wang photo scandal.

Maybe Brett can un-retire to pay for his legal fees.

Scavo alleges that Favre sent lewd texts to her and treated her like a "hanging slab of meat" back in 2008, and that he proposed a three-way with her and another massage therapist, writing a text to the other woman about it no less.

"Brett here, you and Crissy want to get together, I'm all alone," he sexted, allegedly.

It's official. Brett Favre has retired from the NFL.

The quarterback legend made the announcement at a press conference Sunday. He is currently listed as questionable for training camp in August.

"One season does not define me," said Favre, referring to a lackluster final year with Minnesota, and possibly the Jenn Sterger scandal as well.

Asked how this is different from his previous nine retirements, he cited his myriad injuries, adding "I know it's time" and "I have no regrets."
