It wasn't that long ago that Bret Michaels was banging everything with two lips.

The singer was taking full advantage of his rock star status, anchoring VH1 reality shows that made The Bachelor look like an actual search for love. It was all about groupie sex and bandanas for Bret.

But then he suffered a brain hemorrhage and Bret's life instantly became about more than STDs tests and tour bus liaisons. The guy knows he's lucky to be alive.

A reinvented family man, Michaels posed with his daughters and girlfriend Kristi Gibson outside The Late Show with David Letterman studio yesterday. He's on the mend physically and spiritually and we couldn't be happier for this rocker...

Asked about his relationship with Gibson, Michaels told The Early Show:

"We are not engaged yet, it's a work in progress. She has a beautiful promise ring - it's a promise ring, or a friendship ring, with benefits. That's what we call it. But yes, is it a work in progress? Absolutely."

Fans that worry about the return of Bret Michaels to the stage - so soon after his hospitalization for a brain hemmorage in April - can rest easy.

That's the message this singer had in an interview with Entertainment Tonight last night. He said:

"I took every precaution. I wouldn't do it if I thought I was going to die. I fought too hard to live. I want to show people I'm healthy. I feel great. I'm thankful for all the well wishes and everything that came my way, but let's get back to having a great time.

"Let's get back to rockin' again."

During the discussion with Samantha Harris, Bret touched on a couple other topics, including the flak he got for a duet with Miley Cyrus. Excerpts are below:

On leaving the hospital: "After you spend literally what was almost a month and half in three different ICU units, I was done. I was like, ‘I need to get out of here.' It becomes extremely depressing, and what gets me up and going out there is making music and being around my family and friends. That’s an awesome feeling.”

On the Cyrus controversy: "[Miley] came in and sang a really, really awesome harmony to it. And it caused amazing controversy out of nothing. There was all this, you know, ‘How can they be singing a duet together?’ And I said, ‘It’s not a duet. She’s singing harmonies.’"

On getting back to business: “I have a job I love. “Let me tell you, if I had a job that I hated or it sucked, I would’ve milked that brain hemorrhage for another three years. I would’ve gone until the insurance ran out and said, ‘Man I can’t get up.’

“But I’m like, this is what I love to do and I figure if I can do it why not go out there and enjoy myself? And if it mentally helps me to heal, and physically helps me to heal, that’s a good day.”

While Perez Hilton is basking in the spotlight and milking his Miley Cyrus photo controversy for all its worth, the 17-year old singer at the center of this scandal is acting like the mature one.

(Man, we never thought we'd write that about Miley Cyrus.)

Instead of harping on that situation, Miley is focusing on her music: she appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman last night, joked with the host about Twitter and then performed "Can't Be Tamed." Most amazingly, she did it while wearing pants!

From there, Cyrus woke up today and took to the stage with Bret Michaels.

First, though, she continued to defend her racy new image, saying on Good Morning America:

"You have to be who you are to the full. There's nothing that I'm holding back. And that's what I want to give to my girl fans. Just be who you are."

Ah, there's the pompous Miley Cyrus we know and love... to mock: sounding all high and mighty about her music when, in reality, she's just another recycled pop singer that wears skimpy clothing to prove how "edgy" she is.

Moreover, and we truly mean this with no predisposed bias or opinion of the singer, but just as people with two working ears: Miley sounds HORRIBLE in the following duet:

Bret Michaels has laid out the reasons why he should be the next judge on American Idol.

But there's one person he doesn't need to convince, and she's someone who knows a lot about the gig: Paula Abdul.

"If he were to take that position I think he would be awesome at it because you've got to have a passion and love for music," Abdul told Us Weekly. "It takes somebody who really, really understands young people to try to make the magic happen in those 30 seconds. [Bret] would fit the mold perfectly."

That said, Paula says no one will ever be able to truly replace Simon Cowell.

"Honestly, the word replacement to me does not apply because, as we all know, they broke the mold after Simon. I don't think he could ever be replaced," she said. "There should be no comparison."

It's true, but it's still an important question: Should Bret Michaels be the next American Idol judge?

Just a few weeks ago, fans were concerned that Bret Michaels might not survive a brain hemorrhage.

Now, debate has moved on to a far less important, albeit pop culturally relevant, issue: Should Michaels replace Simon Cowell as a judge on American Idol?

The rocker told concert goers in Mississippi on Friday night that he was being considered for the gig. Now, in an interview with People, the former Poison singer explains why he'd be a great choice, starting with his "old-school, paying-my-dues experience."

“I used to move the pool table out of the way to play for people six nights a week, playing five sets a night, where I had to announce the dinner special. I grew up the old-fashioned way. I would have done anything to have a platform like American Idol when I was growing up," he said.

Recovering Bret

Michaels - whose reality show resume includes judging Nashville Star; sleeping with women on Rock of Love; and winning Celebrity Apprentice - also tells the magazine he can help Idol contestants focus on the big picture.

“For a lot of these young musicians, I’d be able to give them incredibly awesome and very, very real advice. Not just the music, but their attitude and what it’s gonna take. Because everyone forgets one simple thing: Once you get chosen as the winner, you still have a big road ahead.

“I would bring my heart and my soul and amazingly honest and truthful advice. And I would tell them if I thought their chances of making it were really slim - and how to fix that. Because my chances of making it were extremely slim. It’s come from brute determination.”

So, has he sold you? Would Michaels make a quality American Idol judge?

Just five weeks after suffering a brain hemorrhage, Bret Michaels returned to the stage last night in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Incredibly, this event itself was NOT the most surprising development of the evening! But, first, a quick recap of the concert:

Limping slighty, Bret told the 1,400-person crowd at the Hard Rock Casino:  "I've got a little bitty hitch in my left giddy up, but I think we'll be all right. It's an awesome feeling. I'm glad to be here."

He then played a set that included former Poison hits such as "Talk Dirty to Me, "Unskinny Bop" and "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," the same single he sang with Casey James on the American Idol finale.

The New Simon?!?

For Bret Michaels: First, Celebrity Apprentice. Next, American Idol?!?

Prior to one song, he shocked the crowd and announced: "I can't say this is true yet, cause I don't know. Next year they asked me to possibly be the judge on American Idol."

A source close to Michael confirmed Bret is "in the running to replace Simon," while an audience member said "I figured he'd be wobbly and sitting on a stool. But he was energetic, running around the stage with his guitar."

So if the singer really is on his way to recovery, that begs the question: Would he be a good replacement for Simon Cowell?

Lee DeWyze may have won American Idol last night, but Bret Michaels stole the show.

The recovering rocker appeared on stage with Casey James and sang a duet of his classic, "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." Despite recent health problems, Bret looked right at home in front of the thousands in attendance.

Watch and give the man a hand now...

Other artists on the season nine finale included: Christina Aguilera; every past American Idol champion (except David Cook), who sang together in honor of Simon Cowell; and Janet Jackson.

Get better soon.

Good luck on Celebrity Apprentice!

Wear a condom!

Ever since his April 21 brain hemorrhage, Bret Michaels has been besieged by well wishes from his ever-growing fan base. Now, though, the recovering rocker - and reality show champion! - has a message for his followers: thank you.

On the rocker's Facebook page, he's written:

With all of my heart, soul and the remaining organs I have left (lol) I would like to thank each and every one of you for all of your support and awesomeness. All the good vibes and well wishes gave me the strength to go back to New York and win Celebrity Apprentice. I am not at 100% yet but I have every intention of trying to continue the tour starting Friday in Biloxi.

I hope to see your rockin rollin, smiling faces on the road… that is the best medicine I can think of right now. You rock my world.

What a difference a month makes...

Bret Michaels went from his death bed in late April to the top of the board room last night, becoming the latest Celebrity Apprentice champion when Donald Trump "hired" the ailing rocker.

"I gotta tell you, I am so thrilled, I am beyond thrilled to have won," he told E! News at the show's after-party.

Due to his recent stroke, of course, Michaels had to jet across the country in order to attend the finale, a decision that was NOT doctor-approved.

"We went back into the hospital again, they said, 'Listen, we don't advise that you fly, but if you wanna do it, here's what you need to do.' And I'm here, and I didn't want to miss this for the world. I'm ready to rock," he said.

As usual Donald Trump also chimed in with overflowing praise - but, for once, it wasn't for himself.

"Bret has been fantastic right from the beginning," Trump said. "He almost died a month ago, less than a month ago. He was a little bit shaky tonight, but in the end he came through like he always does."

That's what countless groupies have said.

How do you upstage one of the most buzzed-about series finales in TV history?

By airing a reality show competition that features an ailing rock star who was rushed to the hospital with a brain hemorrhage a month ago.

Such was the position Doald Trump found himself in last night. Bret Michaels, on the mend from last week's stroke and preparing for surgery to repair a hole in his heart, appeared on the live Celebrity Apprentice final and took up the task of creating a new flavor for Snapple.

As soon as he showed up, opponent Holly Robinson-Peete never stood a chance.

Donald and Bret

Thanks to his creation of Trop-A-Rocka Blend, Bret was named this season's winner, assuring the American Diabetes Association (his chosen charity) of $250,000.

Despite her second-place finish, Peete received the same amount for her charity, the HollyRod Foundation, which supports those with autism. Both flavors of Snapple tea are on sale for a limited time, with proceeds going to support these causes.

Congratulations, Bret. To celebrate, please go home and rest. Sheesh!
