In a strange interview Monday, The Bachelor winner Emily Maynard turned on the tears, but didn't really get into why she broke up with Brad Womack.

After Ashley axed Ryan and Lucas, Emily sat down and confirmed to Chris Harrison that she and two-time Bachelor star are no longer engaged.

The waterworks were in full effect, but the details few and far between.

If anything, Maynard had good things to say about her ex-fiance.

"He's such a gentleman," she said. "He's always going to be part of my life. I'll always be in love with Brad. No one will ever hear me say a bad word about him."

So what happened then? All Emily said was that she and daughter Ricki wanted this to work, and that they planned to move to Austin ... but didn't.

Her "wants ... maybe overshadowed the relationship," she said, adding that they were used to being single, making this "a hard adjustment."

So why go on The Bachelor then?! She said "Little red flags would come up," but didn't elaborate, then lamented the paparazzi attention.

Hard to see Emily as the next Bachelorette in any case. Short story, she's sad, but you didn't miss much. It was the opposite of this exchange last summer:

Remove that .01% from the equation, readers: Emily Maynard and Brad Womack are most definitely over.

"We're no longer engaged," Maynard says in the latest issue of People. The statement came just minutes after she taped an interview with Chris Harrison that will air on the July 11 episode of The Bachelorette.

With speculation growing every week over Emily and Brad's status, Maynard says she's confirming the couple's split now because she wants her life with six-year-old daughter, Ricki to "get back to normal."

How do we know for sure? Well, we suppose we don't. Not 100 percent anyway, since no named source will confirm it, let alone The Bachelor pair themselves.

But come on. We know a breakup when we see it, and even if there's no Twitter war of words available to the public, we're willing to stick a fork in these two.

Here's why we're 99.9% sure of a Brad Womack-Emily Maynard breakup:

A Special Bachelor Moment

It was all downhill from here ...

  • It happened once before, between the taping of The Bachelor and the night the After the Final Rose special aired. Not a good sign, and they didn't even seem happy (or put on that good a front) by that point.
  • The distance thing isn't that bad. Yes, Emily and Brad live in North Carolina and Texas. Too far to drive. But if you're in love, you make it work, rather than cite this as a reason it didn't before even really trying.
  • Brad is persona non grata on her Facebook / Twitter. Yes, we realize they are probably just private people. But not one denial of the absurd rumors floating around tells you something. She doesn't even mention him.
  • The engagement ring is off. Typical of a non-engaged woman.
  • Brad is actually a cyborg. Okay, that's just THG's theory.

In short, Brad is clearly 0-2 at this Bachelor thing. Perhaps he should have proposed to Ashley Hebert ... she seemed into him, which Emily never really did.

Despite ongoing questions regarding the status of Emily Maynard and Brad Womack's relationship (or lack there of), the answer is now clear ... and bleak.

While previous reports of Emily and Brad's breakup may've been premature, it doesn't look like this one is. She reportedly gave back her engagement ring.

Maynard was seen running errands in Charlotte, N.C., sans the rock Brad presented to her on The Bachelor finale. An insider says ABC got the ring back.

  • Maynard, E.
  • Brad W.

Sources claim that the couple's strained, long-distance relationship was just too hard to continue, with a source says "It's completely over now."

Maynard is reported to have initiated the breakup, which happened about two weeks ago after Brad's failed attempt to save their relationship.

Then there was the whole drunk-dialing incident.

"Emily is happy in Charlotte [North Carolina] and is not moving to Austin with [her 5-year-old daughter] Ricki," a source said. "She is content."

The breakup comes as no surprise to those keeping tabs on the reality couple. Trouble has been brewing basically ever since they got engaged.

The torch is passed to you, Ashley Hebert. Hope your starring turn, which began on Monday's Bachelorette premiere, works out better than Brad's.

No one knows if Brad Womack and Emily Maynard are still together.

Well, presumably the two of them do, and perhaps little Ricki does.

But as far as celebrity gossip reports go, there's no telling what's legit and what's not. Rumors of trouble in paradise surfaced 3-4 weeks ago.

As recently as last Monday, however, conflicting reports suggested that the couple had reunited and that it felt so good. Now we get this ...

Brad's Heartbreak

BACHELOR HEARTBREAK: Is it over? For good this time?

On April 29, according to Life & Style, Brad Womack and Emily Maynard met in Texas. They seemed awkward, uncomfortable and distant at the Oasis in Lake Travis.

In between dining out, they spent much of the weekend holed up in Brad's apartment, and not for the usual fun reasons a couple stays holed up in an apartment.

The Bachelor winner Emily Maynard has severed her engagement to Brad Womack, according to reports. This seconds a prior story that Emily and Brad split.

A source tells OK! that Emily called Brad to call off their wedding and gave back the 3-carat Neil Lane engagement ring from The Bachelor season finale.

Going forward, she will “see what happens.” That's never a positive status.

Brad Womack Proposes to Emily Maynard

In the end, Emily Maynard simply felt too much pressure to move to Texas with her 5-year-old daughter Ricki and to conform to Brad’s lifestyle.

“She finally gave up and refused,” a source says. “She said ‘I want my life back.’ ”

Emily and Brad - in their own words - have struggled to stay together since the show. But now various reports hint that things are deteriorating.

There's even the implication that they're pretending to stay together - or at least not confirming the open-secret split - to protect The Bachelor.

It's over, Emily Maynard told Brad Womack on the phone.

That's what Life & Style reports about an April 9 conversation between The Bachelor couple, after she just couldn't imagine marrying the guy.

"Emily told Brad that she can't picture them getting married," an insider reveals to Life & Style. "Brad's not acting like a fiancé, and she knows that he's not going to change. Emily knows in her heart of hearts that the relationship is finished."

Emily Maynard and Brad Womack Split?

Emily Maynard "was very close to moving to Austin with her daughter, Ricki, just a few weeks ago, but that's not true anymore," the insider says.

In fact, Brad put an offer on a new home without consulting Emily Maynard first: "This isn't the behavior of someone who plans to be with her."

The reason for the split stemmed from Brad's hurtful and erratic behavior, L&S says, and the fact that Emily became fearful he was cheating.

Are The Bachelor’s Brad Womack and Emily Maynard over already?

If OK! Magazine says so, it must be true, right? Mmmyeah not so much. This fine publication has had Jen Aniston pregnant or adopting about 18 times.

You have to take with a boulder of salt their report that Emily's engagement ring, conspicuously still on last week, is now NO LONGER on. Scandal!

Brad Womack, Emily Maynard Cover

The magazine goes on to say that the "romantic version of Brad and Emily" is all for the cameras, and they're "pretending for the sake of The Bachelor brand."

What nonsense. That brand has less credibility than this magazine. Sure, it's a fun show and we love it too, but let's be real. One marriage. 15 seasons.

In real life, a staffer from the show, who may or may not actually exist, has revealed exclusively to OK! that Emily has broken up with Brad - for GOOD!

“There have been so many breakups and make ups - mostly over the phone or Skype,” a source said. “Finally, Emily told him she can’t do this anymore."

Well, consider us convinced ... or not at all. Don't get us wrong, it wouldn't shock us if they broke up, we're just not buying this account for one second.
