Brad Pitt has made his feelings on gay marriage very well known once again.

"It's unbelievable to me that people's lives and relationships are literally being voted on in a matter of days," Pitt wrote in an email to HRC members and supporters today. "If you're like me, you don't want to have to ask yourself on the day after the election, what else could I have done?"

Brad Pitt's mother, Jane Pitt, has been targeted by critics and even with death threats after a letter she wrote last week to her local Missouri newspaper.

Jane Pitt's letter expressed support for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, citing his opposition to same-sex marriage and abortion as two reasons.

Given Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's staunch support of gay rights, the letter came as a surprise to many, and subjected Jane to a firestorm of criticism.

Brad Pitt's Mom

Brad's brother Doug Pitt defended their mom, if not her political views, while Jane said she would no longer be commenting to the media on the letter.

Others were not so diplomatic, to say the least.

Reaction was swift on Twitter, where one user, I Bleed Gaga wrote, "BRAD PITT'S MOM WROTE AN ANTI-GAY PRO-ROMNEY EDITORIAL. KILL THE B***H."

Another named Sandy Kownacka wrote, "Brad Pitt's mom, die."

Others stiil wrote: "F**k you, brad pitt's mom, the gay community made your kid a star, you whacko," and, "Brad Pitt's mom is a dumb c***."

Okay, people. Chill. As Doug said, it's alright to disagree, but can't we keep things civil? No need to threaten a senior citizen's life over this.

Brad Pitt has been a vocal advocate for gay rights, so it came as a bit of a surprise to learn that his mom write an editorial in her local Missouri newspaper that supports presidential candidate Mitt Romney's conservative views on homosexuality.

Springfield's News-Leader confirms that the author is Brad's mom.

Jane Pitt's letter was primarily penned to express support for Romney, in response to a previous News-Leader editorial urging readers to shun the Republican's bid to unseat President Barack Obama because of his Mormon beliefs.

In her response, which was published on Tuesday, she wrote:

"I think any Christian should spend much time in prayer before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is Mormon."

"Anyone who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama - a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years and did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer."

Obama, she writes, is "a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage. I hope all Christians give their vote prayerful consideration because voting is a sacred privilege and a serious responsibility."

Brad Pitt called New York State's recent passage of a bill legalizing gay marriage an encouraging sign. Might there be signs that he's considering tying the knot?

The actor and partner Angelina Jolie are famous for saying they won't marry until gay marriage is legal everywhere. That's going to be a long, slow fight.

However, Brad recently said his six kids are often asking when mom and dad are going to get hitched. "It's something we've got to look at," he admits.

So will Brangelina really wait for all states to ratify gay marriage, or is that just a clever, noble response to incessant questions regarding their status?

"The thing is with Brad," says one of his closet friends and confidants, "is that you just don't know, especially since he got together with [Angelina]."

Asked why Brad and Angelina don't just get married if they and their kids want that, the source suggested they may be playing the media a bit.

Gay couples can now get married in the state of New York.

That's great and all, Brad Pitt tells People, but it's not enough. Not by a great number of states.

Just Being Brad

“It is encouraging that New York has joined the movement to grant equal marriage rights to its citizens," the actor said. "But it is each American’s Constitutional right to marry the person they love, no matter what state they inhabit."

Brad Pitt currently stars in the number-one movie in the country, Burn After Reading.

He also appears to have found a new, number-one cause to focus on.

The actor donated $100,000 to fight California's Proposition 8, a ballot initiative that would take away same-sex couples' right to marry.

"Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8," Pitt said in a statement.

No matter where you stand on gay marriage - and we're curious to hear reader thoughts on the topic - it's hard not to admire Pitt for taking a stand on such a controversial issue.

When will Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie get married?

It's a question on the minds of all fans - and Pitt recently gave an interesting, liberal answer.

Angelina, Brad Pic

"Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able," the 42-year-old actor says in Esquire magazine's October issue.

Lance Bass, Ellen DeGeneres and even non-celebrity homosexuals, we think he's talking about you.

Speaking about he and Jolie's kids, Pitt makes it clear that his adopted brood mean as much to him as the baby he and Angelina had together, Shiloh.

Pitt says he "cannot imagine life" without children, Maddox, 5, and Zahara, 1.

"They're as much of my blood as any natural born, and I'm theirs," says Pitt. "That's all I can say about it. I can't live without them. So: Anyone considering (adoption), that's my vote."

Pitt, who plays a world traveler in the upcoming drama Babel, believes in a laid-back parenting style.

"I try not to stifle them in any way," he says. "If it's not hurting anyone, I want them to be able to explore. Sometimes that means they're quite rambunctious."
