Despite a unique set of circumstances that made the idea feasible and rumors of his political ambitions, Ben Affleck will not be running for U.S. Senate.

"I love Massachusetts and our political process, but I am not running for office," the Argo director wrote on his Facebook page Monday, December 24.

"We are about to get a great U.S. Secretary of State and there are some phenomenal candidates in Massachusetts for his Senate seat," he added.

"I look forward to an amazing campaign."

Actor Ben Affleck is refusing comment on a slew of recent reports that he's a candidate for Massachusetts' soon-to-be vacant U.S. Senate seat.

In Washington to raise awareness about the violence plaguing Congo, Affleck was also scheduled to meet Wednesday with other D.C. lawmakers.

Among them? Sen. John Kerry (D-MA), a fellow Boston native, who is widely believed to be replacing Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State in 2013.

Clinton will step down once her replacement is named by President Barack Obama. Kerry's appointment would open up a special election for his U.S. Senate seat.

Bing users may often search for Kim Kardashian, but it takes more than Web traffic to earn Entertainment Weekly's Entertainer of the Year.

It takes the official evolution of a career that once seemed bound for tabloid covers and direct-to-DVD movie roles.

It takes both starring in and directing what many consider to be the best film of 2012.

Yes, it takes the impressive achievements of the man behind Argo, Ben Affleck, who has earned this distinction from the popular publication.

Ben Affleck Close-Up

A surefire Best Director Oscar nominee, Affleck was announced as the magazine's Entertainer of the Year today on Good Morning America.

Was this the right call? Weigh in now:

Already the parents of two beautiful daughters, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are now the proud mom and dad of a beautiful baby boy as well! Congratulations!

The A-list couple, who got married back in 2005, have proven pretty skillfull at picking out pretty girl names, with Violet and Seraphina. The little boy's name?

Alas, mum's the word on the little guy's name for now. But he's here!

Jen and Ben with Violet, 6, last fall. Seraphina is 3.

"It would be so weird to have a boy," the actress told Ellen DeGeneres recently, but also said the experience would be absolutely "cool and different."

Affleck, in turn, said that the 3-against-1 female-to-male ratio in his house leaves him significantly outnumbered. Looks like he has a teammate at last!

"He knows when to swoop in with the gesture. He's sweet that way," the actress says of her husband. "Honestly, I would do anything for that man."

"I always know that it's not taken for granted."

Aww. Congrats again to the whole family!

UPDATE: "We are happy to announce on February 27, Jennifer gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Samuel Garner Affleck," Ben announced via Facebook.

Ben Affleck has proven himself as an actor and as a director.

But what about as a bearded man and as a man who is cleanly shaven?

Bennifer Baby Time!

That's the question on tap for readers today, as the star is currently filming the movie Argo, which chronicles a life-and-death covert operation to rescue six Americans during the Iran hostage crises. Affleck's role didn't require him to shave. Lucky dog.

Wish Affleck well with his impending third baby and then vote on his looks below:

Already parents to two beautiful daughters, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are getting ready for another baby! She's pregnant, according to reports!

Here's Jen out with soon-to-be-big sister Seraphina:

Garner and Affleck, both 39, have each spoken of being hands-on parents. Garner said juggling acting and motherhood gave her a "split personality."

"[I] feel like half my brain is somewhere else all the time, but when the camera's rolling, I pull it together and focus for two minutes," she has said.

"Then I kind of turn back to a ditz again."

A ditz and a great mom. Congratulations to the happy couple ... and sorry to J. Lo, who won't be getting back together with Ben anytime soon.

Now it all makes sense.

Tabloids have been wondering and reporting on the basis for Jennifer Lopez's split from Marc Anthony - was he too controlling? Did he cheat on her? - but OK! Weekly has gotten to the bottom of the divorce:

It's all part of a plan to reunite a couple that broke up four days before a wedding, that featured a $1.2 million engagement ring and a 16-month romance: BENNIFER!

J. Lo and Ben Afflec Cover

“They’re talking,” an insider says in the latest issue of this magazine, while a Lopez colleague says Ben Affleck and J. Lo “have spoken more than once.” Juicy!

If Jennifer's mother, Guadalupe, has anything say about it (note: she doesn't), the two will totally get back together. Mrs. Lopez supposedly called Affleck a few days before her daughter and Anthony separated, with a family friend saying: “She was devastated when the [Bennifer] engagement was called off."

We're very sorry, Jennifer Garner. But you might wanna hire a divorce attorney. This reunion seems inevitable.

Attention, readers: Ben Affleck has gone all Justin Bieber on us.

No, he isn't dating Selena Gomez or causing mass hysteria by appearing on stage. And, no, we haven't noticed a single Jesus tattoo on the actor.

Affleck stepped out today in Santa Monica with a new, shaggy hairstyle, one that can be attributed to his upcoming role on Argo, a film he's directing, producing and appearing in. Guess we can forgive the guy for not having time to get a haircut.

Which look do you prefer on the star?

While his BFF continues to express disappointment in Barack Obama, Ben Affleck also stepped into the political arena this week, testifying before the House Africa, Global Health & Human Rights Subcommittee.

The actor, who founded the Eastern Congo Initiative, stated his case regarding the central African country, which is mired in violence, and why America must do more.

“If we continue to place Congo on the back burner of U.S. policy, it will come back to haunt us," Affleck said. "The last time Congo collapsed, armies came in from across Africa and five million people died... We must learn from history."

The Oscar winner is asking Congress to protect Congolese civilians from ongoing attacks. He wants the U.S. to offer support in this November's elections and to appoint a representative to the Great Lakes region of central Africa.

"This is an ambitious agenda, but it can be accomplished," Affleck said. "The federal budget may be seen as a zero sum game but our morality, our sense of decency, our compassion for our fellow human beings, is not."

Cindy McCain, a member of Affleck's nonprofit organization, has joined the actor in his fight.
