Lost in the hullabaloo over the Rolling Stone cover that went to the late Philip Seymour Hoffman is this critical revelation from the cover story that wasn't:

Drake and Rihanna are just friends.

The "Hold On, We're Going Home" rapper, who made headlines this week for griping about Rolling Stone giving Hoffman the cover, said as much.

To hear him tell it, the once-romantic relationship of Drake and Rihanna is now strictly platonic, even though he calls the singer "the ultimate fantasy."

"I mean, I think about it. Like, 'Man that would be good.' We have fun together. She's cool as s--t. But we're just friends," he says. "That's my dog for life!"

Well, that sounds ... nice at least?

Drake wants to clear the air regarding his previously-expressed frustration with Rolling Stone for putting Philip Seymour Hoffman on its latest cover.

The "Hold On, We're Going Home" crooner vented this week when the magazine allegedly replaced what was to be his cover story with the late actor.

Drake was "disgusted" with Rolling Stone for not telling him this or giving him the option of a future cover, and for running off-the-record quotes about Kanye.

Rolling Stone responded that they told him this was plan days ago, which Drake disputes. But for bringing Hoffman into this beef, he is nothing but contrite:

"I completely support and agree with Rolling Stone replacing me on the cover with the legendary Philip Seymour Hoffman," Drake wrote in a blog post.

"He is one of the most incredible actors of our time and a man that deserves to be immortalized by this publication. My frustration stemmed from the way it was executed."

Rolling Stone is firing back at Drake for his complaints about being dropped from the cover, saying he was told in advance that the switch was happening.

Drake ripped Rolling Stone earlier today, claiming that he was unceremoniously replaced by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman on the front of the new issue.

The rapper made it clear he wasn't throwing shade on PSH, but sources close to Drizzy say "he only did the interview to be on the cover," and feels "tricked."

He called the press "evil" in a Tweet earlier today.

Drake was interviewed on January 28, and the photo shoot with the magazine was also completed before Philip Seymour Hoffman died on February 2.

A rep for Rolling Stone says this happens all the time if musicians and actors pass away, with other recent examples being Lou Reed and Whitney Houston.

Regardless, the publication insists his camp was informed last Friday that he wouldn't be on the cover when the issue was released this Wednesday.

Drake, who also denies speaking on the record to Rolling Stone about Kanye West's Yeezus, has deleted his tweets about both the cover and Hoffman.

As for calling Macklemore wack as f--k for apologizing to Kendrick Lamar for winning Best Rap Album, then sharing a screen shot of the text ... no retraction.

Drake is calling the press "evil" after Rolling Stone magazine decided to run a cover featuring Philip Seymour Hoffman

And the reason Drizzy is in a tizzy is because they scrapped his cover for one focusing on the late actor.

The rapper tweeted that he was "disgusted" with the publication after they "took my cover from me last minute and ran the issue."

But Drake doesn't mean any disrespect...

"RIP to Phillip Seymour Hoffman. All respect due. But the press is evil," he added.

Many people were impressed by Macklemore texting Kendrick Lamar to say that he just robbed him of Best Rap Album honors at the 2014 Grammy Awards.

Drake was not one of those people.

The Canadian rapper-crooner, who was also nominated in that category, spoke with Rolling Stone about Macklemore's gesture, declaring, "that s--t was wack as f--k."

His reasoning behind that view?

Drake was nominated for his album, Nothing Was the Same, but didn't receive any text after Macklemore & Ryan Lewis took home the prize for The Heist.

Macklemore texting Kendrick Lamar may have seemed cool to some fans, but "To name just Kendrick? That s--t made me feel funny," Drake continued.

Rihanna and Drake are totally in a relationship, according to insiders, and not only that, she's finally learning how a girl should be treated in one.

The pop star, 25, is loving all the attention Drake is giving her and she’s been gushing to her friends that he’s a true “gentleman,” a source says.

The Canadian rapper, 27, reportedly "treats her like a queen." Aww.

This, clearly, is a departure from the norm for Rih-Rih. Hardcore.

“He’s a gentleman and you know Rihanna isn’t quite used to all that ... she’s used to bad boys, the ones who are hood and swagged out and real ghetto like her ex."

"But even though she’s use to all that ratchetness," says this quotable insider, "it’s a real treat when she’s with Drake because everything flows well.”

Ouch, Chris Brown. Just ouch. That's got to hurt, doesn't it bruh.

So what is Rihanna and Drake's relationship status now, exactly?

Friends? Boyfriend-girlfriend? Just filling each other's needs?

Rihanna and Drake have been seen together again lately, sparking a new round of rumors that the one-time couple could be a couple in the making.

Or they could just be “filling each other’s needs” as a source close to the music stars put it. Either way ... there's most likely a lot of sex being had here.

“Whatever happens between them, happens,” the insider dished, profoundly.

“They’re doing what they do on the low, and they like to keep it that way. They fill each other’s needs when they can, and that’s how they’re choosing to roll.”

Sounds like something you'd see if you watch Love & Hip Hop.

Rihanna and Drake love seeing each other, the source says, but attempting to settle down and have a “committed” relationship isn’t in the cards ... now.

At this hectic moment in their careers, it's just not right.

On the heels of reports that Drake and Rihanna are getting hot and heavy again comes a new rumor that the Canadian rapper is dating ... Zoe Kravitz.

Rihanna, according to an alleged insider, is just Drizzy's piece on the side.

Despite going on that sexy strip club date and hooking up at least twice this month, Rihanna and Drake are not "dating" at this moment in time

“Whatever you hear about Drake dating Rihanna must be coming from her, because they are NOT dating,” a source close to Drake said of the two.

That's largely because Zoe Kravitz, 24, daughter of Lenny Kravitz, has been spotted on intimate dates with Drake, and is reportedly his #1 squeeze.

As you can imagine, this is not likely to go over too well with Rihanna.

Drake is channeling his inner Rihanna this week ... and his inner Chris Brown.

The Canadian rapper took part in one of Rih's favorite pastimes - posting shirtless selfies online - in showing off his athletic body for the world to see.

Lame? A little. But hey, if you've got it, might as well do a bit of self-promotion.

Drake Shirtless

He's closing in on his former nemesis Chris Brown in the abs department, too ... even if only one of the two uses his muscles to crush people and cars.

This will be a good test for Chris, who will undergo 90 days in an anger management program after he got booted out of rehab for an anger incident.

Seriously. Dude threw a rock at his MOM'S CAR while in treatment.

With Rihanna and Drake already back together, or at least hooking up, you know this photo is only going to boost his status in her eyes ... and enrage CB.

If the workouts persist, there's no telling what could transpire next.
