The Bachelor and Bachelorette likes to show off its successful couples (statistically few, but trending upward lately) to prove that the show really works.

Enter Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum, married and expecting their first child, for a sweet - and bizarre - segment on last night's Men Tell All episode.

While the penultimate installment of the season was light on The Bachelorette spoilers, it did feature Ashley, J.P., and  ... Greg the Ultrasound Technician.

That's right. They found out on TV whether their baby is a boy or girl.

“Let’s do this!” Chris Harrison cheered, with the obligatory mention that brief interlude from Andi Dorfman's journey was about to make Bachelorette history.

“We’re going to find out the sex of this baby.”

Cute dramatic music. Cue awkwardness of gel being applied to Ashley's body by Greg with cameras zooming in really, really close for a good angle.

While it would've been hilarious, albeit even more tacky, to have Chris promise the results after a commercial break a la American Idol, he did not wait:

It's a boy!

J.P.’s eyes welled up with tears at the thought of his son, and we were reminded that this couple has always been pretty much perfect together.

At the same time, it felt that we were violating their privacy in a big way, and you couldn't help but be surprised that they agreed to this stunt.

Congratulations on the upcoming arrival in any case. Tell us in the comments and poll: What do you think of The Bachelorette's live ultrasound stunt?

Bachelor Nation is rallying behind Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici.

Or so it would appear, given a pair of news stories in the last day:

  • Jason and Molly Mesnick welcoming their first child, a baby girl.
  • Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum sharing honeymoon pics!
  • Ash and JP
  • Hebert and JP

It's as if these couples - two huge success stories from the ABC franchise - are trying to prove to Sean and Cat that it is possible to beat the odds.

Unswayed by the recent breakup of Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Matinez, Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum from The Bachelorette are still going strong and supposedly planning their dream wedding ... albeit a long way in advance.

This cover makes it seem imminent, though:

As recently as November 4, Ashley Hebert said she had no wedding date set, and that as happy as she was with J.P., they were taking things (relatively) slowly.

The couple isn't waiting too long, and will "start talking about [weddings] in the New Year," assured J.P., who bested current Bachelor Ben Flajnik last season.

For now, though, they're just enjoying what downtime they have and getting used to living together in New York - which is great, but don't believe the hype.

A couple of vague quotes don't mean nuptials are imminent - that's not even a new pic! - no matter how badly a celeb news weekly wants to sell magazines.

Ashley Hebert has no plans to marry J.P. Rosenbaum at the moment.

But that doesn't mean there's trouble for the pair. They're just busy.

"We're so busy that even if I wanted to plan [a wedding] right now, I don't think I could," the former Bachelorette star told People in a recent interview.

Ashley Hebert, who is in her final weeks of dental school and currently applying to pediatric residencies in NYC, says, "My brain is just not there right now."

Like Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez, there is no wedding date at the moment, but unlike their predecessors, Ash and J.P. are sure there will be.

The couple isn't waiting too long, and will "start talking about [weddings] after the New Year," assured J.P., who bested Ben Flajnik last season.

For now, they're just enjoying what downtime they have and getting used to living together in New York after a whirlwind Bachelorette courtship.

"My closet space is a lot less now and the place is twice as big," joked J.P. "But it's her idiosyncrasies that I love and there's no pet peeve of hers that gets to me."

As for downtime? "We just both have really busy, crazy lives, so staying in, making dinner and watching a movie is my personal favorite," said Ash.
