ABC officially named Chris Soules The Bachelor this week, confirming the worst kept secret that fans have either known or assumed for some time.

That doesn't mean Arie Luyendyk Jr. is happy about it, however.

Arie L

Like Soules, Luyendyk was a former Bachelorette contestant who proved widely popular on the reality show, but fell just short in his journey for love.

Arie, who wooed Emily Maynard in 2012, was being recruited for The Bachelor this year along with Soules, and is said to be "pissed" about the decision.

His own Tweets on the subject weren't that harsh. He wrote:

"I'm not the Bachelor. Have fun on the farm people.”

Arie Luyendyk Jr. "was definitely being considered," says a show source, adding that producers "really liked him" but went with Soules' unique appeal to fans.

Chris Soules has been confirmed as The Bachelor for the 2015 season - this time by the show and not just The Bachelor spoilers that leaked weeks ago.

We've known for a long time that the network named Chris Soules The Bachelor, but it hasn't been officially announced by his employers until today.

Team Chris all the way! Fire up the tractor and let's do this thing, ABC!

Chris Soules is The Bachelor 2015. Here he is, leaving no doubts about it.

Arie Luyendyk Jr., the other former Bachelorette cast member hunk in the running for the job, even said late Monday that he was out of the running.

"I'm not the Bachelor," Luyendyk wrote. "Have fun on the farm people."

Soules, an Iowa farmer, will be bringing the franchise to the heartland.

A Bachelorette fan favorite on Andi Dorfman's recently concluded season, he finished third after the leading lady did not invite him to the Fantasy Suite.

The rumors surrounding Arie Luyendyk, Jr. being considered for ABC's The Bachelor in January are true, and The Bachelorette contender confirms.

Not only that, he's lobbying for the job!

Arie

The runner-up on Emily Maynard's 2012 season - she picked Jef Holm, somewhat amazingly, over Arie and Sean Lowe - wants to hand out the roses.

"No hiding it anymore!" the 32-year-old race car driver tweeted this week. "Would love to share my journey with all of you, but it's up to #bachelornation."

"Open, hopeful and more than ready," the Arizona-based Arie Luyendyk, Jr. concluded his Twitter declaration, complete with a red rose emoji ... very subtle!

The Bachelorette star Andi Dorfman's beloved farmer suitor, Chris Soules, was believed to be the easy choice for producers looking to cast the role.

Luyendyk's name also popped up recently, though.

If you were hoping to find out who is the next Bachelor at the end of The Bachelorette last night, you came away disappointed, as the torch was not passed.

In past seasons, The Bachelor or The Bachelorette season finale has also featured this big reveal on After the Final Rose. Not this time, for reasons unknown.

And the Winner is?

Chris Soules, the sweet farmer from Iowa who finished third this season, attended the taping of After the Final Rose, leaving us to believe he's the guy.

He may well be, though it was announced a new Bachelor wouldn't be revealed Monday, Soules blushed and laughed nervously when the topic came up.

Fans (and fellow Bachelorette stars) also began chanting his name at one point, so it seems safe to assume he'd be a popular choice if he got the nod.

That's not a guarantee, though.

Insiders confirm that another former Bachelorette contestant, Emily Maynard's runner-up Arie Luyendyk, Jr. from the 2012 season, is in the running, too.

Looks like Farmer Chris might have some competition for The Bachelor.

While Andi Dorfman's beloved Iowan castoff was believed to have the job wrapped up, sources say that come 2015, he may not be The Bachelor after all.

The reason? Another fan favorite - from 2012 - is still in the running:

Arie Luyendyk Jr., the son of two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Arie Luyendyk and second-place finisher on Emily Maynard's Bachelorette season.

"Producers have already filmed him at home in Arizona, and even sent a personal trainer to get him in shape for TV," says an insider. "They think he’d be perfect.”

Emily Maynard surprisingly left Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Sean Lowe high and dry in favor of Jef Holm on the 2012 finale. Their engagement didn't last.

Arie Luyendyk, Jr. and Sean Lowe are the two finalists for The Bachelor, according to reports, meaning Ryan Lochte won't be rocking his Speedo on the show.

The Olympic swimming champ was actually in the running, however.

"We honestly briefly considered him," a source who works on the show revealed to E! News. "But we are going elsewhere. It's really down to Arie and Sean."

Ryan Lochte, Bikini-Clad Girls

You'll still have a chance to see the athlete on TV this fall, as Lochte booked a gig on 30 Rock as well as 90210. But The Bachelor didn't say #Jeah to Ryan.

Arie Luyendyk, Jr., Sean Lowe and Jef Holm all became fan favorites during the most recent Bachelorette season, comprising Emily Maynard's final three.

Producers are still finalizing their decision, and a casting announcement is expected "soon." Roberto Martinez may or may not still be in the mix as well.

Assuming it's down to Arie and Sean, who do you think should be the next Bachelor? Vote for your favorite of the two hunks in THG's survey below!

Despite reports to the contrary, Roberto Martinez may still be in the running to be the next star of The Bachelor, according to the best source there is.

Roberto was being courted by the network several months ago, though no agreement was reached, and he was reportedly dating Kara Ramos at the time.

Many thought he was out, especially given the emergence of Sean Lowe and Arie Luyendyk, Jr. But Reality Steve says Roberto is very much in the mix.

Steve claims Roberto Martinez, who won The Bachelorette in 2010 but broke up with Ali Fedotowsky earlier this year, is now single and ready to mingle.

The network is as interested now as it was this spring.

Arie Luyendyk Jr., for his part, is interested in being the star, but perennial Bachelor spoiler Steve says he doesn't “chance in hell” of landing the gig:

”Yes, they [ABC execs] have met and interviewed both Sean and Arie, but I still haven’t heard anything solid enough that says it won’t be Roberto.”

“This is Roberto’s gig to lose, which is why they were after him hard three months ago. If he got greedy, then I bet they give it to Sean.”

Olympic champion Ryan Lochte is also rumored to be interested, though that seems like a long shot at best. The next season is set to begin filming September 15, so look for ABC to announce its star soon, probably during Bachelor Pad.

Who do you think should be The Bachelor?

It's become all but certain that a memorable star from a previous season is chosen for the upcoming season of ABC's The Bachelor or The Bachelorette.

This year gave us two very popular candidates in Arie Luyendyk, Jr., and Sean Lowe, both of whom lost to Jef Holm in the Emily Maynard sweepstakes.

Arie and Sean would both be slam-dunk picks for the network, while Roberto Martinez - The Bachelorette winner in 2010 - is said to be out of the mix.

That leaves Arie Luyendyk, Jr., and Sean Lowe as co-frontrunners. Which of the two would you prefer to see this winter? Vote below!
