The Bachelorette finale that featured a tear-filled engagement bewteen Emily Maynard and Jef Holm also endeared millions to Arie Luyendyk, Jr.

While the majority of viewers are happy for - and confident in - Emily and Jef, the response to Arie Luyendyk has been overwhelmingly positive.

In other words, contrary to what the tabloids would have you believe.

Emily Maynard, Arie Luyendyk, Jr.

The runner-up, who was the subject of wild, crazy and sometimes hurtful gossip reports throughout the season, has finally taken them to task.

Numerous magazines have painted Arie as a womanizer who only went on the show for publicity; an ex-girlfriend of his even got in on the act.

In addition, "insiders" claimed Emily Maynard was dumped by Arie despite wanting him to receive the final rose, with Jef winning by default.

Tuesday, Arie Luyendyk, Jr., who has wished Emily and Jef well, took to his Twitter page to address the stories, albeit without specifics:

“It's been brought to my attention what all the tabloids are saying. IT'S ALL FALSE, I mean where do they come up with this crap?! #carryon.”

Carry on he will ... very possibly into The Bachelor driver's seat.

It seems all but a lock that Arie or Sean Lowe will be the next Bachelor, and given the former's popularity, you have to think he has the edge.

Who would you like it to be? Vote in our survey after the jump!

It's become all but certain that a memorable star from a previous season is chosen for the upcoming season of ABC's The Bachelor or The Bachelorette.

This year gave us two very popular candidates in Arie Luyendyk, Jr., and Sean Lowe, both of whom lost to Jef Holm in the Emily Maynard sweepstakes.

Arie and Sean would both be slam-dunk picks for the network, while Roberto Martinez - The Bachelorette winner in 2010 - is said to be out of the mix.

That leaves Arie Luyendyk, Jr., and Sean Lowe as co-frontrunners. Which of the two would you prefer to see this winter? Vote below!

And the Winner is?

Who should be the next Bachelor, Arie Luyendyk, Jr. or Sean Lowe? Both 2012 Bachelorette finalists would be worthy ... but only one can be picked! View Poll »

We're down to the final two on The Bachelorette. The last two men standing: hot speed racer Arie Luyendyk, Jr. and skateboarding cutie Jef Holm. Which one of these men has stolen bachelorette Emily Maynard's heart?

Find out NOW in our THG LIVE Recap!

If you don't want to wait, you can always check out The Bachelorette Spoilers, but we think you'll want to stick around for this.

Emily and her Men

Chris Harrison reminds us that this is a super special finale with a super special After the Rose special! Yay for three hours of Emily Maynard! Minus 8

Curacao. It must suck to be there, right? And to be in love with two guys while there? That's tough. Oooh look, Ricki sighting! Plus 5.

Jef's meeting the family, including the future sister-in-law, but not Ricki. And he brought flowers for her mom. What a sweetheart. Plus 10.

Mom's a little leery because Brad really stole HER heart. She's going to grill Jef about Ricky and how he feels about being a dad. Jef's ready to be a dad and wants to marry Emily. I'm totally Team Jef right now. Plus 20.

Oooh, now big brother's going to grill Jef. Except they end up talking about Rick, her late fiance' and father of her child. Which is a little odd. But big brother's impressed, so score one for Jef with one F. Plus 8.

Tonight the men spill the secrets of this season of The Bachelorette and single mom, Emily Maynard. They'll talk douchebaggery and heartbreak. There might even be man tears.

But will they spill the biggest secret of all? That is, will they spoil which man won Emily's heart?

Well, no. Probably not.

Oh well. The big teases.

Emily Maynard Bachelorette Pic

Chris Harrison, a.k.a. Mr. Hostman, (get it? Mr. Hostman? Mr. Postman? Bring me a dream...okay, I'll stop.) reminds us that the finale will be Sunday and Arie and Jef will be absent from tonight's tell-all. But we'll get plenty of Kalon and Ryan. Joy.

Before we meet the men, Chris and Emily dish on the season. They start out rehashing Ryan's fantastic first date and following it up with every awful thing he said all season. I had such high hopes for him in the beginning. And then his ego got bigger than his heart. Minus 7.

And then we get a recap of Kalon and Emily's "West Virginia Hood Rat" send-off. He was absolutely horrifying. Minus 4 for not getting rid of him sooner.

Oh, Doug. Poor Doug. And that awful, awful excuse for a kiss. What, is he 12? Minus 2.

As the Emily Maynard rumor mill turns …

According to a tabloid report, The Bachelorette star herself was shot down on the finale by one of her two remaining hopefuls, Arie Luyendyk, Jr. and Jef Holm.

If that's true, which we doubt, it would make her choice a lot easier!

The Bachelorette Emily Picture

In Touch "reveals" (i.e. fabricates) today that the man who proposes to Emily Maynard on the season finale Sunday, July 22, was not her first choice.

“He won by default,” an insider spills. Supposedly.

The man who captured Emily’s heart rejected her at the penultimate hour, according to the insider, in an emotional scene filmed for The Bachelorette season finale.

Emily was enjoying a date with one of her final two candidates - read The Bachelorette spoilers to see who wins - when he got a sudden case of cold feet.

“He said, ‘I don’t think we know each other nearly enough to even be entertaining this; I don’t think we should get engaged,’” says the insider.

Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s ex-girlfriend Cassie Harshman claims that he's been leading on The Bachelorette star Emily Maynard, and urges her to make a run for it.

If she even chooses him, that is. Arie and Jef Holm are the last two men standing. For insight on who she (likely) picks, read The Bachelorette spoilers.

In any case, “Arie’s in it for the fame,” at least according to Cassie, who claims “Arie has dated hundreds of women and travels all over the world."

“Clearly, he doesn’t need help finding a date or someone to fall in love with. The whole idea of Arie Luyendyk being on The Bachelorette is a joke."

Emily Maynard and Arie Luyendyk Jr.

"He hasn’t really raced much since 2008, and I know with certainty that his only motive for going on the show was for the fame and attention.”

Cassie Harshman - not to be confused with Cassie Lambert, The Bachelorette producer he also dated - began dating the 30-year-old in late 2009.

He ended up moving in with her and her two young children from a previous relationship. Arie and Cassie broke up for good in December 2011.

“He wasn’t the best father figure to my children,” says Cassie, something Emily may want to take note of, she says, given her seven-year-old girl.

“Let’s just say that Arie has some growing up to do himself.”

The Bachelorette: Mom Edition is clearly very different than past seasons.

Not only is Emily Maynard willing to forgo the Fantasy Suite in an effort to set the best example for her daughter, it's little Ricki who shapes her view in the decision-making process, as we saw last night when a teary Emily picked her final two.

On The Bachelorette season finale, it only gets harder. Here's ABC's promo:

Will it be Jef Holm or Arie Luyendyk, Jr.? The Bachelorette spoilers shed some light on that if you're interested. Either way, we'll know for sure soon enough.

Can a person be in love with two people at the same time? Or three? That seems to be the case for Emily, and guarantees the finale will be gut-wrenching.

Who do you think she should choose? Sound off in the comments below, and vote in our twofold survey in the aftermath of last night's Sean Lowe elimination:

Was Emily right to let Sean go?

Who should she pick July 22?

If The Bachelorette star Emily Maynard felt that her decision to cut Chris loose after last week's hometown dates was hard, this one was near impossible.

Things got even more serious, emotional and dramatic in Curacao as Emily went on very romantic dates with Arie Luyendyk, Jr., Sean Lowe and Jef Holm.

Three worthy candidates, only two roses in play. Who would she pick? And how would she handle the fantasy suite card situation, given that she's a mom?

Follow this link for all The Bachelorette spoilers we know about the July 22 finale, then continue on for THG's +/- recap of the penultimate episode!

The Bachelorette Emily Picture

Obligatory Curacao nature montage and recap of the final three guys and their "journey" with Emily so far. Minus 4 for the even-longer-than-average filler.

Emily has nice penmanship, even in sand. Plus 2.

Sean's shoes match his blue shirt perfectly. What guy does that? Apparently Sean Lowe, Ames Brown and Pauly D. Minus 5, in spite of the obvious effort.

Look at Sean, getting all flustered talking about his ex ... and a little more unnerved trying to open up to Emily. Cute or a red flag? Hard to read. Even.

Time's running out to go there, Sean. Minus 10.

His letter to Ricki made it dusty in here. Plus 25. Still holding something back, though. Just say it man. Go on. Okay, that kind of counts for redemption.

Gotta love that the fantasy suite card is from Chris Harrison. Host-pimp sure knows how to take care of his ridiculously attractive employees. Plus 15.

Plus 20 for Emily calling it a night solo. Even after the hot tub makeout session no less. Girl's priorities and commitment are pretty impressive.

Four guys. One girl. Four families. One broken heart.

Things got serious, emotional, cheesy and awkward as always on The Bachelorette as Emily Maynard went to her prospective husbands' places of origin.

Arie, Chris, Jef and Sean each received a hero's welcome and acquitted themselves well on make-or-break hometown dates, but only three roses were in play.

Who got the boot, and who's on to the final three? Follow this link for all The Bachelorette spoilers we know, then read on for THG's official +/- recap!

  • Chris Bukowski Picture
  • Jef Holm Picture

Over-under on the number of times the phrase "hometown date" is spoken tonight? 17. And we're betting the over. Minus 17 because it'll be close.

Ricki sighting! Plus 20. She turns seven TODAY, so Plus 7 more.

Minus 10 for killing time and recapping all the guys. Snooze.

Chris Bukowski is up first. Are they getting him out of the way? Guy has to be the clear underdog among the top four. Sorry Chris, it's just true man.

"On a scale of one to Polish, we're Polish." - Proudly Polish Chris. Plus 5.

Mmm ... beer. Emily Maynard drinks a lot of it for a girly girl. Plus 4.

She always looks very, very tan ... in Chicago, in early spring, that makes one of them. Minus 3 for maybe trying just a little too hard sometimes.

Plus 6, though for the hair. It's so pretty.

Chris says his folks are pumped to meet their future daughter-in-law. On the same day Emily comes by? Wow, that's gonna be awkward! Minus 10.

The rumor mill us swirling as to who Emily Maynard chooses on The Bachelorette. Spoilers to this point have been accurate ... but what about going forward?

The field of 25 has been narrowed to four, as tonight's hometown dates feature Jef Holm, 27, Sean Lowe, 28, Chris Bukowski, 25, and Arie Luyendyk Jr., 30.

The favorite at this point? Still anyone's guess. Or is it?

Emily Maynard Bachelorette Photo

There have been reports that Jef, despite looking like the Chris Lambton of this season - great friends with Emily but low romantic chemistry - is the winner.

There have also been conflicting reports that Emily Maynard is engaged to Arie Luyendyk, Jr. after he mentioned his fiancee on a recent call with reporters.

Sean Lowe? How could that guy not be a favorite?

Emily has even been linked (erroneously) to host Chris Harrison and Brad Womack by tabloids in recent weeks in this most unusual Bachelorette season.

For the first time in show history, Sean, Arie and Jef have all done interviews during the season, fueling speculation that each may be the final rose recipient.

What's more, the final three who go on to Curacao after tonight all left the island nation at the same time, making it unclear who finished second (or third).

What do we know about tonight, and beyond? Is there a surprise in store regarding the season finale? Follow the jump for The Bachelorette spoilers ...
