You'll forgive Ann Curry for not caring a whole lot about what her NBC bosses think.

The former Today Show host made her first live appearance on screen last night since her controversial firing, hosting the Nightly News for Brian Williams.

And while fans were psyched to see the return of this former co-host, they were also taken aback by her new haircut. As were network producers, apparently.

Ann Curry Haircut

"Ann was always told by her bosses that her hair had to be long, and she just didn’t like to wear it at that length," an insider tells The Daily Mail. "She is a no-fuss gal, and doesn't want to spend a ton of time styling her hair. [So] she just decided to cut it."

Excerpts from a new book have been released and they echo a previous report regarding Ann Curry and her firing from Today:

Matt Lauer may suck, but producers were to blame for the horrible situation at that NBC program.

Ann Curry Yellow Dress

In "Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV," Brian Stelter writes that Curry received never-ending flak from those around her, with one staff members telling the author:

"A lot of time in the control room was spent making fun of Ann's outfit choices or just generally messing with her."

Another day, another story that paints NBC is especially bad light.

Following reports that Matt Lauer nearly left for ABC, and that he REALLY did not get along well with Ann Curry, a new snippet of Joe Hagan's New York magazine piece has been leaked.

And we'd love to hear NBC's response to it.

  • Ann Curry on the Red Carpet
  • Fancy Robin Roberts

After Curry was fired from Today - yet still employed by the network, which "created a situation of spectacular awkwardness," Hagan writes - the reporter wanted to "tweet a note of sympathy" to Robin Roberts in light of her treatment for MDS.

A new cover story in New York magazine seeks to expose the mess that has led The Today Show to its lowest ratings in year.

And while author Joe Hagan reports that Matt Lauer nearly left for ABC last year, the most explosive passages document that anchor contentious relationship with Ann Curry.

Former Today Show Crew

"Everybody at NBC, everybody at the Today show, everybody understood that Ann was kicked out of her position because Matt didn't want her there," an important NBC staffer told Hagan for the story. "That's why it was so personal between Ann and Matt."

Today's edition of the Today mill focuses on Ann Curry and her alleged reaction to reports that Matt Lauer may be fired from the struggling show.

If you assumed Curry would be laughing all the way to the bank with her severance check, think again. She's more upset with NBC than anything.

Matt Lauer and Ann Curry on Today

While plenty pissed at her former co-host - who she wishes would just shut up - Curry places the blame on NBC for empowering Lauer in the first place.

According to reports, the powers that be have allowed him to become a diva, when they should've limited his power and kept him focused on journalism.

Ann Curry feels betrayed by NBC and Matt Lauer and just wishes her former Today colleague would shut his yap, according to a new tabloid report.

This week, he admitted the show messed up firing Curry - or at least how it was handled - but he also made other comments that were less flattering.

Ann Curry and Matt Lauer

He told the Daily Beast that she wasn’t his first choice to replace Meredith Vieira, and that he lobbied for Katie Couric to rejoin the show instead.

The two were even prepared to team up on a syndicated daytime show, but negotiations broke down and Katie went to ABC, while Matt stayed put.

Caught in the crossfire - as she was back then - is Ann.

Largely blamed for Ann Curry's firing, Matt Lauer is reportedly trying to make it up to his former Today Show co-anchor.

According to Radar Online sources, the reporter is pushing NBC to grant Curry's wish and allow her to leave for CNN, where she's been offered a primetime hosting gig.

Matt Lauer and Anne Hathaway

“Matt thinks that NBC should let Ann out of her contract so that she can take the CNN gig,” an insider tells Radar. “He can’t imagine why the bosses are dragging their feet and are at a stalemate.

"It would allow Ann to get back on the air on a regular basis and everyone can move on from the debacle. Matt only wishes Ann the best and thinks it’s for the best if she were to take a job at another network.”

Ann Curry has already been screwed over once by NBC.

Now she's determined for it not to happen again.

Curry, Ann

With CNN reportedly wooing the anchor, sources tell Radar Online that Curry wants out of her NBC contract. Big time.

"She has formally asked her attorney to explore exit options from the network," the Curry insider claims. "However, NBC bosses have indicated they are unwilling to release Ann from the contract. If Ann were to just quit, there is a non-compete clause, which would prohibit her from working for another news outlet for two years."
