Adrian Peterson has been accused of child abuse for the second time in less than a week.

According to a new report by KHOU, the Minnesota Vikings running back sent a different four-year old son back to his mother last June with a scar on his forehead.

The station says Peterson sent the mother a text message that claimed the toddler smacked his head on a car seat... but when the boy's mother pressed the issue, Peterson admitted to striking hitting the child.

Earlier today, Adrian Peterson was reinstated by the Minnesota Vikings.

He'll be on the field next Sunday when the team goes up against the New Orleans Saints.

Not long after Minnesota made that announcement, the star running back - who has been arrested on charges of reckless/negligent injury to a child - issued a lengthy statement in which he addressed his controversial actions as a parent.

"I never wanted to be a distraction to the Vikings organization, the Minnesota community or to my teammates," Peterson says.

"I never imagined being in a position where the world is judging my parenting skills or calling me a child abuser because of the discipline I administered to my son."

Peterson has admitted to whooping his son with a switch after the four-year old acted out during a visit over the summer.

On Friday, Adrian Peterson was indicted on child abuse charges.

Perhaps having learned from the Ray Rice scandal earlier in the week, the Minnesota Vikings immediately deactivated Peterson for their week 2 game against the New England Patriots.

Now, just one day after that game, however, the Vikings have announced that Peterson will practice with the team this week and is expected to play against the New Orleans Saints this Sunday.

"To be clear, we take very seriously any matter that involves the welfare of a child," said team owners Zygi and Mark Wilf in a statement issued today.

"At this time, however, we believe this is a matter of due process and we should allow the legal system to proceed so we can come to the most effective conclusions and then determine the appropriate course of action."

We have an update on the Adrian Peterson indictment.

As previously reported, the star Minnesota Vikings running back was indicted this afternoon in Montgomery County on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child.

We can now confirm that the toddler Peterson is accused of abusing is his four-year old son, who was visiting him this summer and who got into an altercation with another one of Peterson’s sons over a video game.

(Peterson has at minimum five children with multiple women.)

Through his attorney, the All-Pro says the charges stem from him using a “switch to spank his son,” admitting to this being a disciplinary technique that he's employed and which was used on him as a child.

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was indicted today for "reckless or negligent injury to a child." Both Peterson and his lawyer have declined to comment.

Peterson missed practice yesterday, but the Vikings say the absence was unrelated to the charges brought against him today.

Peterson married Ashley Brown in July and has at least five children from previous relationships, though his exes and others have claimed that he's fathered as many as seven kids.

Minnesota Vikings' running back Adrian Peterson's son was killed in 2013, allegedly by Joseph Robert Patterson - a boyfriend of the boy's mother.

Astonishingly, Patterson was freed on $750,000 bond while he awaited trial. That waiting period came to an end today, as Patterson was arrested for allegedly kidnapping the child's mother.

Patterson had been under strict instructions not to contact Peterson or any family members of his son, Tyrese.
