The 2012 Grammy Awards became the Adele Awards Sunday.

The British chanteuse went six for six, collecting every one of the awards for which she was nominated, including top honors for album, record and song of the year.

As she tearfully accepted album of the year for 21, she professed gratitude. "It's been the most life-changing year," the 23-year-old said, wiping her eyes.

Led by hit singles "Someone Like You" (best pop solo performance) and "Rolling in the Deep," the album was inspired by "a rubbish relationship," she joked.

She also offered a searing performance of "Rolling in the Deep", her first live public performance since being silenced by a hemorrhaged vocal cord last year.

Among Adele's other wins: best pop vocal album and best short form music video. Who else won the hardware at the 54th annual event Sunday night?

"I don't want to be some skinny mini with my tits out. I really don't want to do it and I don't want people confusing what it is that I'm about."

So says Adele in an interview with Anderson Cooper on Sunday, one taped prior to this singer landing in the news this week for reasons beyond her incredible ability: first, fashion guru Karl Lagerfeld referred to her as fat. Then, he apologized.

The timing for this 60 Minutes piece, therefore, could not be better, as Adele speaks at length about her body image and her goals as an artist; namely to just write "love songs" and nothing more. She isn't going for shock. She doesn't care about sex appeal. She just wants to sing.

Isn't that refreshing?

Under fire for comments he made about Adele - referring to the beloved songstress as "too fat" earlier in the week - fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld is backtracking faster than a point guard with Blake Griffin coming down the lane.

"I'd like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article it changes the meaning of the thought," Lagerfeld told Metro yesterday, adding:

"What I said was in relation to Lana Del Rey and the sentence has since been taken out of context from how it was originally published. I actually prefer Adele, she is my favorite singer and I am a great admirer of her. I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance. Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can't wait for her next CD."

Fair enough, Karl. And you certainly are not alone with that sentiment.

Adele has been nominated for six Grammy Awards. Her album, "21," has sat atop the Billboard 200 chart for, oh, about 197 weeks.

Yet these achievements apparently are not enough for fashion mogul Karl Lagerfeld, who went off randomly to Metro US this week, saying of the current crop of female artists:

"The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice. Lana Del Rey is not bad at all. She looks very much like a modern-time singer. In her photos she is beautiful. Is she a construct with all her implants? She’s not alone with implants.”

Adele with a Trophy

Of course, considering the aforementioned accomplishments, this quote begs the question: Too fat for... what? Not for success and popularity, clearly.

Too fat, perhaps, for the 78-year old Lagerfeld to sleep with? Adele will try to live with that realization. We know it may be difficult for her.

Lagerfeld also commented on M.I.A.'s lewd Super Bowl gesture, profoundly saying of the rapper's raised middle finger:

"Nowadays people give the middle finger quite quickly – it's not the best behavior. Everybody does that, what's new about that? It's just become a bad habit. People in magazines are 50% bimbo and 50% pregnant women."

It was already a safe assumption that we'd be seeing Adele on stage at the 2012 Grammy Awards, collecting practically every trophy handed out at the February 12 ceremony.

But CBS now confirms the artist will be singing at the event, as well, marking her first public performance since throat surgery in October.

Adele at the Grammys

"I'm immensely proud to have been asked to perform at this year's Grammy Awards," the best-selling artist of 2011 said in a statement. "It's an absolute honor to be included in such a night and for it to be my first performance in months is very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all."

Adele is up for Record and Song of the Year for "Rolling in the Deep," Album of the Year for "21," and Best Pop Solo Performance for "Someone Like You." She's favored to win the most Grammys of anyone this year - and for good reason.

Adele is not one to talk openly about her personal life.

Well, unless she's recording a hit single based on recent heartbreak.

But the superstar was forced to released a statement this week in response to a report that claimed her boyfriend, Simon Konecki, was still married to Clary Fisher, the woman he wed in 2004.

Adele on the Red Carpet

“This is the first and last time I will comment on the details of my relationship with Simon," Adele wrote on her website. "Contrary to reports and headlines in the press today, Simon is divorced and has been for 4 years. Everyone in our lives separately and together wish us nothing but the best, and vice versa. These are the facts. Take care and see you all in February xx."

Adele underwent throat surgery in late October and it's unknown when she'll return to the usic scene. But at least she has a nice, UNmarried man to keep her company in the meantime.

Ailing songstress Adele, nominated for six Grammys, is planning on attending the awards ceremony in Los Angeles next month and hopes to sing at the event.

Adele was forced to cancel her remaining tour and promotional appearances after undergoing throat surgery last November and is on the shelf indefinitely.

The "Rolling In The Deep" singer is nominated in six categories, including album of the year, record of the year, and song of the year for her second album, 21.

Adele underwent vocal cord microsurgery by Dr. Steven Zeitels to stop recurrent vocal cord hemorrhage (bleeding) from a benign polyp, according to reports.

Her rehabilitation is well underway.

"Adele will be at the Grammys in Los Angeles on February 12 at the Staples Center," a source close to the singer says. "She's thrilled to be nominated."

"It's been a hard time for her because of the surgery. She has begun talking more, with her doctor's permission. Adele's best friend in recent weeks has been warm compresses around her neck to help the healing process of her vocal cords."

"Producers of the Grammys would love to have Adele perform and open the show, but she isn't able to give them an answer yet. She won't be able to give them an answer until the beginning of February, and they completely understand."

Adele has also lost 25 pounds in recent months, according to reports.

This just in: Adele had a very good 2011.

The singer - who is recovering from throat surgery and said this week she may not release a new CD for a couple years - sat atop the music world this year with the number-one single, number-one video and, unless something miraculous takes place in the next four weeks, the number-one album.

"21" is on pace to be the the first album to sell five million copies in 12 months since Usher's "Confessions" in 2004.

Based on Nielsen SoundScan, here are the top-selling albums of 2011:

  1. Adele, 21 - 4,817,000 copies sold
  2. Lady Gaga, Born This Way - 1,973,000
  3. Lil Wayne, Tha Carter IV - 1,776,000
  4. Jason Aldean, My Kinda Party - 1,389,000
  5. Mumford & Sons, Sigh No More - 1,328,000
  6. Jay-Z/Kanye West, Watch The Throne - 1,124,000
  7. Michael Buble, Christmas - 1,038,000
  8. Beyonce, 4 - 956,000
  9. Lady Antebellum, Own The Night - 908,000
  10. Katy Perry - Teenage Dream - 907,000

Adele rumors spiraled out of control this weekend after the British soul singer announced the cancellation of all her remaining 2011 concerts and appearances.

On Twitter, fans speculated that the chart-topping "Rumor Has It" singer, who has been plagued by health issues, was actually diagnosed with throat cancer.

Not the case, says the 23-year-old via her rep:

Adele Live

"We would like to reiterate that Adele is to undergo surgery for a hemorrhaged vocal cord. All reports regarding any other condition are 100 percent false."

Adele has battled throat problems throughout the year as her beloved album 21 soared the charts worldwide, and will undergo surgery for the matter soon.

Her return date is unknown, but "a full recovery is expected" as she rests and fully recuperates before looking to schedule any new work commitments.

We're already looking forward to when that day comes.

Adele's vocal cords are in bad shape.

After a year plagued with canceled tour dates and serious bouts of laryngitis, the British singer is on the shelf for the remainder of 2011 after throat surgery.

Her record company announced the news with "deep regret," confirming that all Adele's concert dates and promotional appearances are cancelled until 2012.

Adele's label said in a statement:

"She is to undergo surgery to alleviate the current issues with her throat and a full recovery is expected. As a result, doctors have ordered her to rest her voice and completely recuperate before looking to schedule any work commitments."

It's unclear when the 23-year-old - whose 21 is currently the bestselling album of the year - is expected to return, but the surgery will not impact her voice.

No 2012 appearances have yet been set, but the Grammys are set for February 12. That would seem like an appropriate time and place for a comeback.

Unlike the reaction of most Red Sox fans when they heard John Lackey will miss all of 2012 with Tommy John Surgery, here's hoping Adele returns ASAP!
