A few Tweets apparently were not enough for Adam Levine.

After being caught muttering "I hate this country" during last night's Voice results show, the Maroon 5 singer listed a number of dictionary definitions on his Twitter feed, all of which relayed the same message:

He was just making a joke.

But with the backlash continuing, The Voice coach has now issued an official statement through NBC:

SPOILER ALERT:

Last night on The Voice results show, favorites Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons were voted off, leaving many viewers in shock.

But Adam Levine has now given fans a different reason for surprise: a hot microphone caught him muttering "I hate this country" not long after after Amber Carrington was "saved by America," as Carson Daly announced.

It's unclear what exactly Levine meant, considering he made the remark after his own team member was deemed safe.

For Team Adam, Sarah Simmons really brought out the love in the judges. She wanted to do something upbeat, and chose “Mama Knows Best.”

The first note was incredible, and it only got better from there ... Blake could barely contain himself. Usher gushed as well (at least by his standards).

After weeks of blind auditions, sudden-death battle rounds, instant elimination knockouts and live playoffs, Season 4 of The Voice has come down to this.

Only 12 contestants remain, with 10 spots to fill and no margin for error.

The competition heated up quickly ... and LITERALLY in some cases!

Team Shakira shocked fans when she chose the Backstreet Boys' “I Want It That Way” for Garrett Gardner to sing, but the guy did a nice job with it.

The Voice continued its live playoff rounds Tuesday night with performances by the four surviving members each from Team Blake and Team Shakira.

On Monday, Teams Usher and Adam showed their stuff. Tonight, it was on to their competitors' rosters, with elimination on the line Wednesday night.

America will choose two of the four members of each team to advance, and the coaches will each pick one more, cutting the field down to 12 tonight.
