Aaron Hernandez was indicted today on a first-degree murder charge in the death of Odin Lloyd, the friend whose body was found near his house.

The six-county grand jury indictment charges the former New England Patriots star with killing 27-year-old Lloyd, a semi-pro football player.

The indictment against Hernandez also contains weapons charges.

Lloyd was reportedly dating the sister of Hernandez's girlfriend, Shayanna Jenkins, whose role in a potential cover-up has yet to be established.

Hernandez, 23, pleaded not guilty to murder and weapons charges in June, and he is being held, in solitary confinement, without bail at a county jail.

His lawyers have maintained that the case against the former NFL standout is circumstantial and say that he will be able to clear his name.

He had to hear her say “Dada” for the first time from behind bars.

Shayanna Jenkins, Aaron Hernandez's fiancee, is under investigation by police still searching for the murder weapon they say he used to kill Odin Lloyd.

Investigators believe Hernandez may have asked Jenkins to get rid of the weapon shortly after the victim's body was found about a mile from his home.

Warrants for a Bristol, Conn., storage facility suggest he may have instructed her to take a gun safe or lock box out of his home in North Attleboro, Mass.

The warrants claim Shayanna Jenkins was seen on surveillance video bringing an object the size of a lock box or safe out of the house and into her sister's car.

She allegedly asked to use the vehicle the day after Lloyd was killed to go to the bank, and returned home about 35 minutes later without the object.

Former New England Patriots football star Aaron Hernandez has been in jail for over a month after being arrested in connection with Odin Lloyd's murder.

With time on his hands in solitary confinement, he apparently made a pen pal. A guy named Karl wrote a letter to Hernandez and he actually responded.

The letter Aaron wrote Karl made its way online and has been authenticated as real by law enforcement officials. In it, he proclaims his innocence.

"Your letter meant alot and was very true! I know everything happens for a reason and I know 'God' has a plan for me and something good will come out of this," he writes.

"The world just makes things out of false accusations and it will all die down especially when they say NOT GUILTY and the people who turned on me will feel like crap."

Aaron Hernandez was seen by his own home surveillance cameras holding a large-caliber gun just minutes after the murder he allegedly orchestrated.

Prosecutors also found a spent .45 caliber shell casing in a car rented by the athlete matching five bullets found in the body of murder victim Odin Lloyd.

Those revelations, along with the surveillance photo of the former Patriots tight end below, were released by Massachusetts investigators Thursday:

Aaron Hernandez was back in court today for a probable cause hearing, during which prosecutors typically try to to establish that he committed a crime.

The hearing is meant to give prosecutors a chance to show that there's enough evidence to bring the case before a grand jury for a formal indictment.

In this case, that appears like a foregone conclusion ... eventually.

Once that happens, a pretrial date will be set, but today didn't quite go as expected. The prosecutors requested a continuance, asking for more time.

Hernandez's lawyer objected, asking for the case to be dismissed because prosecutors were dragging their feet in compiling and presenting evidence.

NFL linemen Mike and Maurkice Pouncey are standing by their former college teammate and accused murderer Aaron Hernandez. To a surprising degree.

As the former Patriots tight end sits in jail, the Pouncey brothers both rocked hats stitched with “Free Hernandez” at a birthday party in Miami.

The Pounceys have been linked to Hernandez’s off-field activities as police continue to probe Hernandez’s past for clues relating to murder charges he faces.

In 2007, when Hernandez was just 17, the Gainesville (Fla.) Police Department mentioned the Pounceys in a report after investigating a double shooting.

Police tried to speak with Aaron Hernandez about the shooting but he invoked his right to have an attorney present. No charges were ever filed.

Aaron Hernandez will remain in solitary confinement at the Bristol County (Mass.) Jail as he awaits trial on murder charges, which could be a long ways off.

Officials said it would be in his "best interest" to stay isolated from the general prison population, despite concerns from the ACLU about his condition.

The former New England Patriots star and alleged murderer was placed in solitary right after he was booked for plotting the execution of Odin Lloyd.

Fearing violent inmates might view the former NFL player as a "prize," officials have declined to move him out of solitary, saying it just isn't prudent.

Investigators have released the results of a search warrant against Aaron Hernandez, and it contains a transcript of his alleged text messages with Odin Lloyd.

Officials believe Hernandez, along with two associates, picked up Lloyd at his house, drove him to an industrial park near Hernandez's home, and killed him.

Police released the specifics of a (borderline indecipherable) text message conversation that the former football star had with Lloyd on the night of his death:
