Randy Jackson Predicts: Danny vs. Adam in American Idol Final

When it comes to predicting the American Idol final pairing, Randy Jackson is going out on a limb shorter than Ryan Seacrest.

During an appearance at Amtrak’s National Train Day in Washington D.C. (seriously, it's a real thing!), the judge predicted next week's finale to come down to Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert.

“Adam Lambert is definitely the lead winner if we had to choose today. He’s got the vocal chops, he’s a good-looking guy like myself, and he’s got that star potential,” Jackson said. “I think it’s going to come down to him and Danny [Gokey] in the finale.”

Are you a Lambert Lover or a Goke Head?

As for rumors that fellow panelist Kara DioGuardi might not return to the judges’ table next season, Randy said:

“I think everybody will be back. I think you will see the returning cast.”

Entertainment Weekly is Loving Adam Lambert

He's isnt the American Idol champion yet, but Adam Lambert has already earned a spot on the cover of one of Holywood's most well-respected magazine.

The incredible singer graces this week's cover of Entertainment Weekly. Inside, the article reads:

“With his mop of glam-rock cobalt-blue-on-dyed-black hair, his hearing, his sneering, and his unambiguously ambiguous sexuality, Adam would have probably been brushed off early on. And there was also a time, more recently, when Adam would have made it to Hollywood but been dismissed as ‘too Broadway’ or ‘too musical theater.'"

We're ever so grateful this isn't the case this season, as Lambert is the most entertaining contestant in the show's history. Yes, we said it. Sorry, Kelly and Carrie.

EW Cover Boy

While the crooner is widely assumed to be gay, he simple told the publication: “I know who I am. I’m an honest guy, and I’m just going to keep singing."

Gotta respect that answer. Who the heck cares what body parts he finds attractive?

Do you think Adam Lambert should win American Idol?

Yes, he's incredible!
No, Danny Gokey rules!
No, Kris Allen 4 eva!

Allison Iraheta Eliminated from American Idol

Because Fox producers decided weeks ago that they wanted to see Adam Lambert and Danny Gokey in the final and, as a result, the judges' comments this week weren't remotely critical of a terrible performance by Gokey, Allison Iraheta was eliminated from American Idol last night.

Prior to learning that Iraheta would be sent packing, viewers listened as Danny himself criticized his previous evening's rendition of Aerosmith's "Dream On.

"I listened to it back, and I must say, I laughed the whole night," Gokey said, adding: "My own aunt muted the TV."

Are finalists allowed to have one poor performance? Of course. But why was Danny given an "A-plus" for his effort from multiple judges, and why did Paula Abdul's entire critique of his audition Monday involve simply asking the audience if they were Danny Gokey fans?

Weak. Sauce.

As for Iraheta, she can at least take solace in this week's guest performer: Chris Daughtry was voted off early during his American Idol season, has gone on to incredible success and said last night, "At the time it felt like the world was coming to an end... but I got over it about 30 seconds later."

American Idol Showers "Whole Lotta Love" on Adam Lambert

American Idol rocked last night, but, in the end, it was business as usual on this show: Adam Lambert ruled!

As we rundown each finalist's rock 'n roll routine, we're gonna ignore the duets between Lambert and Allison Iraheta, and Danny Gokey and Kris Allen, because they were nothing more than time-fillers.

We're also gonna try to ignore Gokey's painful scream at the conclusion of "Dream On," but that may be a challenge. It continued to pierce our ears long after the audition was over.

  • Adam Lambert kicked off the show with a Led Zeppelin classic, "Whole Lotta Love." Randy Jackson simply said “This is the Adam I love, dude," while adding that the  performance should erase any criticism that Adam is nothing but a Broadway singer. The only problem, as Simon pointed out, no one would be able to top this all night.
  • Allison Iraheta tried with the Janis Joplin song, “Cry Baby,” but Randy and Kara didn't think it was the right choice for her. Still, Simon hopeully helped her stave off elimination by saying her progress has been “completely staggering.”
  • Simply put, Danny Gokey sucked on Aerosmith’s “Dream On." The primal scream at the end was a weak attempt to sound like Lambert and it annoyed our staff that the judges refuse to really criticize Gokey. Both Randy and Paula gave him him “A-plus” for his effort, while Paula simply asks the crowd who liked Danny Gokey. Nice job, panel.
  • Kris Allen was also weak, as he chose a classic by The Beatles, "Come Together." This really isn't his genre of music. Good ol' Simon described it all as “rather like eating ice for lunch," meaning the performance was forgettable and unsatisfying. We think.

American Idol Judges Gush About Adam Lambert, Admit to Painkiller Addiction

A few hours prior to tonight's performance show (visit our site in the morning for a detailed recap!), a pair of American Idol judges are in the news.

First, Simon Cowell appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. He touched on the following topics:

  • Ryan Seacrest has lost popularity because he enters the stage on a staircase: “It made him appear more pompous, obnoxious, taking himself a bit seriously,” Cowell said. “You don’t give yourself that type of entrance.”
  • Adam Lambert is brave: “I like the fact he’s fearless. He’s not playing it safe. A lot of the people that take part in these shows want to sing ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ every week because it’s a sappy song. He’s got guts.”

Meanwhile, in a more serious admission, Paula Abdul has finally opened up about her painkiller addiction.

In the latest issue of Ladies Home Journal, the singer says she was diagnosed with "reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome," in 2005. It's a a chronic neurological disorder that causes severe pain, often leading to teeth-chattering and shingles-like lesions for Abdul.

Kara DioGuardi: Almost Done with American Idol?

With Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey and others putting on such stellar eighth season performances on American Idol, the presence of new judge Kara DioGuardi has almost gone unnoticed.

In a new interview with TV Guide Magazine, the songwriter even admits this may be her only experience on the show.

“I’m only here for one season,” DioGuardi said. “That’s what we’ve discussed. So we’ll see what happens.”

Kara Photo

Given the choice, Kara would stick around for awhile on Idol.

“My life has become extremely exciting and I am so excited for this opportunity. I feel grateful to America that they let me grow and they let me find my groove on the show and that they were patient. And hopefully I haven’t disappointed them. It’s been a scary experience at times.”

Do you wanna see DioGuardi as a judge beyond this season?

Matt Giraud Eliminated from American Idol

This was not funny, America.

While Matt Giraud was rightfully voted off American Idol last night, the major news from the evening was that he was joined in the bottom two by Adam Lambert.

We're trying to determine what could poisslbly be the explanation behind Lambert ever being among the lowest vote getters. Might it be backlash against the constant praise he receives? Millions of texting mistakes? Swine flu?

My Funny Valentine

As for Giraud, he reacted to his elimination with class.

"I'll definitely remember being the cat with nine lives up there," the singer said before launching into "My Funny Valentine" one more time. "It's definitely not the last time you'll see me. I want to thank Kalamazoo and Michigan for supporting me, and the judges for seeing something in me. I love you all, so, I can't wait."

Adam Lambert Leads a Strong Rat Pack

What an impressive evening of American Idol auditions.

Faced with songs from the 1960s, sung by the Rat Pack, all five finalists were at their best last night. Even guest mentor Jamie Foxx was on his game, showing enthusiasm and attentiveness to each singer. (And he didn't mock Miley Cyrus once!)

As always, though, we must give the top spot to Adam Lambert.

Wearing a white suit, the season-long favorite began his performance of "Feeling Good" by coming down the the on-set staircase, lit up in neon pink. He proceeded to deliver a powerful rendition of the ballad, marking the end with a trademark, soaring high note.

"It's like watching the Olympics and you're our Michael Phelps," Paula Abdul said, in her most coherent critique of the night.

The other singers (pictured above; click on each photo to enlarge it) also impressed:

  • Simon Cowell may have compared him to a "well-trained spaniel," but we could listen to Kris Allen sing "The Way You Look Tonight" for hours.
  • In response to Allison Iraheta's rendition of "Someone to Watch Over Me," Kara DioGuardi said: "If that doesn't land you in the finals, I don't know what will."
  • Matt Giraud is likely in the most trouble. He received mixed reviews for "My Funny Valentine."
  • The judges loved how Danny Gokey closed his performance of "Come Rain or Come Shine." We'll let Randy Jackson explain: "You are the only one I've heard so far tonight that actually could have an album of songs like that - and win!"

Simon Cowell Wants Adam Lambert-Danny Gokey Final

Back in March, the American Idol spoilers on the street were that the fix was in and the show's producers were doing what they could to ensure Danny Gokey and Alexis Grace as the top two, with Lil Rounds and Adam Lambert right behind them.

But with Rounds ousted last week and Grace not even making the top 10, that isn't happening. Guess you can't believe every spoiler you read.

It’s still no surprise, though, that Simon Cowell named Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert as his hopeful top pair at a press conference this week.

"I would put my money on Adam and Danny," the judge said. "It is going to be Adam and somebody. I would like to see Adam and Danny because I think they are the best two singers, and at the end of the day that is what should happen."

Adam Lambert has to be the favorite at this point, but perhaps Danny can make a run yet. Or will someone else spoil this party? Vote in the poll below ...
