That headline and comment is just plain disgusting. Definitely the words and work of a moron.
I'm fully aware of self defense just in case you didn't notice the officer had his gun pulled and aimed at the dog before the dog even looked at him. As for it being different were it a person that's just totally bullshit. Unlike you a lot of us think of our dogs as part of our family. This could have been handled in a much more civilized manner than it was. They had it's owner already in cuffs had they allowed him to kneel down the dog would have obeyed it's owner and not lost it's life. I have a very high respect for police office although there are some officers far to quick to pull their guns.
No it does not exonerate the cop at all. I agree he already had his gun out before the dog did anything. I understand self defense but there wouldn't have been a need had the police done what they should have to begin with. They saw the man put his dog in the car why didn't they tell the man to secure the animal 1st then if they felt he needed to be cuffed do so. Yes the man was running his mouth and shouldn't have been. Because of that he put his dog in harms way it would have only taken a few seconds for him to secure his dog before going toward the police officers. I'm sure he full well knows how police react to dogs whether or not the dog is charging them. In this case I think they were all wrong and it cost that dog it's life.
