People, she already admitted that in the beginning of her career she said and promoted things that she didn't deeply feel to win approval. That's no surprise, since she was a kid at the time.
If you want to save your virginity until marriage, there's nothing wrong with that. DO that. You have the right to uphold your personal or religious beliefs, and nobody has the right to criticize you for it.
But don't insult, criticize, or condemn those who don't feel the same way about sexuality as you do. The truth is, not everyone shares your opinion. The decision of when to have sex is a personal choice that each person has the right to make for themselves.
I know Miley started out as a disney preteen with lots of child fans and a g-rated image. And it's true that some of her fans are still children. (she also has teen and adult fans) But it's also true that she's no longer on disney channel, she's almost 20 years old, and she has rights. There's no problem with what she said. It's not like she gave graphic details about her sex life. She basically said that sex doesn't determine a person's worth and it isn't something that should be given out casually and for approval, but also that human sexuality is beautiful and enjoyable. She's right, and it wasn't wrong for her to say that. She has the right to express her opinion without having to change it for people who want her to promote virginity and stigmatize sexuality.
It's true that she started out as a disney preteen with lots of child fans and a g-rated image. It's also true that she still has a few fans that are preteens. (though she also has teen and adult fans) But that doesn't change the fact that she's not on disney anymore, she's almost 20 years old, she wants to move on, and she has rights. Not everything she says, wears, or does revolves around what's appropriate or inappropriate for children to imitate. That's true of most young adults and celebrities.
Personally I'd feel a little uncomfortable walking out the house like this, but that's just me. I'm ok with her wearing it because:
1.) I respect everybody's right to wear whatever they want.
2.) She's an adult. She's almost 20, not 12.
3.) She's a pop star. I'm used to pop stars playing by their own rules when it comes to clothing and taking fashion risks, and I like that they do this.
If Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Lady Gaga, Gisele Bunchden, Beyonce, or Sofia Vergara (however you spell her last name)wore this, we wouldn't even be debating whether or not this was ok. But because it's Miley Cyrus, people are being very narrow-minded about it. I realize that she originally started out as a disney preteen with lots of child fans and a g-rated image, but people need to move past that, because she clearly is. She's not even on disney channel anymore.
