Bethenny Frankel: Rescued at Sea! (10/10/2011)
According to various reports and accounts, it seems this was a 'bareback' boat charter - no licensed commercial captain was on board. Therefore, it begs the question - why not? Since the charter was for commercial purposes - her Bravo TV network film production crew of SIX people - was aboard, thereby making this a business, not a personal trip (no matter what people THINK it was), it is plausible that a USCG licensed mariner should have been at the helm. For the record, despite common sense, I am a huge B fan and continue to be one.

Never one to shrink away from holding someone accountable - particularly if she was paying for the service - how come we have not a peep from B about holding the captain of her vessel accountable? That was VERY understanding, especially if he put her life in jeopardy by his lack of preparation for such a contingency. Did you notice that she didn't publicly complain - at all - about the captain and his lack of preparation for a 'GPS failure'? Maybe she didn't complain because she couldn't complain in good faith? After the incident and her return to Nantucket, she even tweeted that she was walking around the island feeling like a train hit her. Wouldn't most people simply scuttle a vacation trip and head back home or at least retreat to a hotel for a little R&R, saving roaming Nantucket for another time? Just 'sayin...

Glad she and all the souls on-board were safely rescued. Fascinating, isn't it? Not only was her husband aboard, but I heard a report that she even had her therapist. I mean every reality star travels on a boat trip with her therapist, right? (Gives the situation some authenticity, I think.) The film crew for her show was also present. For the record, B has been thinking about this for months. During the summer, B tweeted her followers and asked if Jason could handle a rental boat as a skipper (see here Twitter timeline to verify this fact). So, she was thinking about it and brain-storming this venture for months. More background doesn't add up... If she was on a boat with a commercially licensed captain (one is required to navigate a vessel for hire), the USCG inspected boat would require a number of safety items including back-up two-way VHF marine radio, possibly even radar, plus GPS. The boat would also have a compass instrument. The supposed 'coast guard verification' was nothing more than the USCG acknowledging it received a distress call; however, it wasn't an incident, per se with an official coast guard inquiry. I didn't see any legitimate news media articles covering or investigating the incident (I looked for them), except for the 'E-News' gossip channel - hard news coverage for sure. She was so lucky to have that interview conveniently and rapidly lined up immediately following, wasn't she? Helloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
