Should the government bypass current tax law and exempt Olympic winners from paying taxes on their victories?
If they are American Heroes and do not have to pay taxes then why do our soldiers have to pay taxes, I believe they have given up more than most olympians.
most of these people have trained most of there lives. their parents have paid for their training,injuries and coachs. if they are to be taxed on this single time that they receive a "paycheck" then all the expenses that was encountered should be allowed as deductions.
The "honorarium" is taxable income and yes just like any other "work" they should be taxed at the appropriate level. To be clear, the medal is not taxed it is the prize money. Based on the emotions about this, Tiger woods should not be taxed on his winnings. Ridiculous.
