"If you're going to engage in sit-ins, protests, and assemblies without the proper permits you are probably going to get maced, roughed up, and arrested."
I for one, am happy to live in a free country where freedom of speech and freedom of assembly are guaranteed rights. If you truly believed in these basic rights and freedoms, you would support the students right to assemble without being assaulted. Every time I see these sort of incidents (and the above comments), I thank my fate that I was not born American.

So they got pepper sprayed...big deal. If you're going to engage in sit-ins, protests, and assemblies without the proper permits you are probably going to get maced, roughed up, and arrested. Especially if you continue your protest after the police ask you to leave. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't do it, or that you're in the wrong--It just means you didn't organize your protest well enough to avoid breaking a law. If you don't like pepper spray in the eyes then go get a goddamn permit and listen to police instructions. We've become desensitized to logic.
As for Megyn Kelly, this article misrepresents her point of view. When she refers to this as a food derivative she is not trying to downplay what happened; she is responding to the host asking her "What is pepper spray?" Later in the conversation she takes on the legality and morality of the action.
And last of all, this is why I love living in the USA--I protest here, and break a law, I get pepper sprayed. In Egypt

There are plenty of successful people who lack a normal capacity for morality or concern for others. They can say the right words with false sincerity, but once in a while they blow their cover by saying something that a normal person wouldn't say. Because they really don't get it.
