Colombian-born actress Sofia Vergara gets plenty of laughs as Ed O'Neill's wife on ABC's new hit comedy Modern Family. Yesterday on The View, though?

Well, let's just say rape jokes aren't always knee-slappers.

Trying to make light of her youthful appearance, the 37-year-old Sofia reacted in a puzzling way when the panel was surprised that she has an 18-year-old son.

Sherri Shepherd said, as viewers saw a photo of Sofia and son Manolo: "You're a single mom of a teenage son, who's 18?! You have him when you were 12?'

Sofia Vergara's response: "Thirteen. I was raped."

Crickets.

It takes a lot to silence the women of The View. Kudos, Sofia Vergara.

Barbara Walters in particular looked shocked as Sofia made the remark, and even Whoopi Goldberg, who's rarely fazed, appeared surprised at the comment.

Gasps could also be heard from the studio audience.

Interestingly, Whoopi came under fire last month for saying on The View that Roman Polanski's alleged rape of a 13-year-old in 1977 was not "rape rape."

Check out the clip of Sofia Vergara on The View yesterday. The rape joke takes place around the four-minute mark, and it's as awkward as billed ...

Having posted an impressive 15-1 record in fashion face-offs on The Hollywood Gossip so far in 2009, Lauren Conrad's style sense is seldom questioned.

That said, it's little surprise the ex-Hills star is unveiling some style tips in a new book, Lauren Conrad Style, to be published by Harper Collins next fall.

She’s a successful reality TV star, designer and fiction writer, and now we'll be treated to new fashion advice and Lauren Conrad pictures straight from LC.

Conrad says she wants to show her readers exactly how to interpret her classic and cool style into their lives, and is “really excited to write a style guide.”

“I think fashion should be fun and reflective of who you are. When you wear clothes you feel good in, it shows in everything you do," she adds. "I know this guide will offer simple, practical tips to help anyone look fabulous.”

Style Guide Writer

Lauren Conrad's latest business foray will be a fashion how-to.

Conrad recently began designing an affordable clothing line for Kohl’s stores, and launched her own line, the Lauren Conrad Collection, the year before.

This year, Lauren released her first book L.A. Candy, which was a #1 New York Times bestseller; the sequel, Sweet Little Lies, goes on sale in February.

As for a return to reality TV? She says don't bet on it.

Sarah Palin entered the national political spotlight in August 2008 when she became Sen. John McCain's V.P. choice. They lost. Less than a year later, she resigned as the Governor of Alaska and became ... a D-list celebrity?

She has no job and no declared goals, but she sure keeps people interested, shilling for her memoir and firing off bizarre statements on just about everything.

Naturally, this rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

Earlier today, E! Online called her "an ordinary D-lister with a huge mouth, one that knows how to make people look, and keep looking, regardless of substance."

That's pretty harsh. You don't have to like Sarah Palin (and there are plenty of reasons not to), but think about it. Why wouldn't she stay in the public eye?

She's wildly popular among a segment of the population, is trying to make money in book sales (no harm in that), and, oh, might run for President in 2012.

U Betcha!

That doesn't make her correct when she calls the current Newsweek cover sexist, but you can't blame her for being ambitious ... whather her ambitions are.

Palin is trying to expand her reach, because many people relate to what is seen as a raw deal Palin received from the McCain team during the 2008 election.

If nothing else, her book tour lets her spin last year's campaign in a better light. And let's face it, lots of people think she'd be a great, honest, folksy leader.

Some think she's obsessed with fame, but it goes both ways. People are obsessed with her. She gets so much press, you'd think she were dating Jon Gosselin.

We can't believe we're saying it, but leave Sarah Palin alone!

Well, you can make fun of her for trading barbs with Levi Johnston, stretching facts in her book, or making verbal gaffes. But don't vilify her for the mere act of trying to broaden her appeal to America and further her career.

Heck, that's what politics are all about!

Do you like Sarah Palin?

This is a new one from the geniuses at In Touch Weekly.

Rather than simply making up Brad Pitt-Jennifer Aniston rumors as they normally do (see Brad running back to her, or their secret meeting earlier this fall), the popular supermarket tabloid magazine is entering the prediction business.

Brad and Jen may not be back together yet, but according to In Touch intel, you can rest assured they will. The headline says it all: YES, THEY'LL REUNITE!

If that doesn't convince you, we don't know what will ...

Yes, They'll Reunite!

Brad and Jen will reunite! Seriously. Bank on it. In Touch said so.

Whether that's an older picture they used for the cover above, or an editing job even shadier than on Demi Moore's photoshopped W cover, the brief teaser on the cover leaves little doubt that this reunion is totally legit this time.

As Angelina Jolie, whose war against Jennifer Aniston never ceases, is panicking about her "battered reputation," Jen "waits for Brad" at a resort they love. Hot stuff.

You'll have to pick up a hard copy at the store to read about the "big steps" she and Jen are taking together in L.A., because they haven't posted the article online.

Our prediction, though, is that none of those steps have actually taken place. Call us crazy, but that's the hunch we get after the 19th interation of this same cover.

Warm weather aside, Alexander Skarsgard is giving True Blood fans around the country another reason to look forward to the summer of 2010.

That's when season three of the HBO hit returns - and when viewers will see a whole lot of this gorgeous actor.

"There's a lot of nudity," the actor, who plays vampire Eric Northman, told Radar Online. "As far as Eric goes, there's going to be a lot violence and a lot of sex - with women and men! So it should be interesting."

As for rumors that he's dating Kate Bosworth, Skarsgard said there's only two women in his life: "my mom and my sister."

Them, and the millions of adoring fans across the nation, that is. They may have actually been exposed to a few True Blood spoilers in Skarsgard's interview.

Asked if sex scenes with co-star Anna Paquin is awkward (because she's engaged to Stephen Moyer), Alex said:

"I love Stephen, we're friends and I love Anna. They're great together. I actually think it makes things easier that way."

Wait, so Eric sleeps with Sookie? There were snippets of these characters in bed together last season, but this sounds like there's a lot more to come. We can't wait to find out.

And to see Skarsgard in the buff.

Those rumors of Levi Johnston showing us "the full Johnston" in the upcoming issue of Playgirl was all just hype - dude was never gonna go full frontal.

That's according to Levi himself. The 19-year-old who put a baby in Bristol Palin says he never intended to get fully nude for the magazine photo shoot.

"I was never going to do that," Johnston said, denying that he wussed out at the last minute. "I'm not into x-rated stuff... come on now, I'm only 19!"

The archenemy of Sarah Palin says he put on about 15 pounds for the shoot and said he thought that despite some setbacks, the pictures are "alright."

"I wasn't in as good of shape as I wanted to be. But with the little time I had I couldn't have done better," he said. "We worked hard and are pleased."

FULL FRONTAL SELLOUT: Levi's manager played us on this one.

The first Playgirl pic featuring Levi was leaked earlier in the week, with the rest of the spread - hockey stick and all - to come any day now. Calm yourself.

It sounds like the whole experience was traumatizing for the Alaska native, who said that any hope of doing Playgirl again in the future is off the table.

"I think this was a one time gig for me," he laughed, adding that his family had different reactions to the pictures. "My sister just laughed," he said.

"I haven't heard any feedback from my old man yet. I hope I don't!"

Do you wanna see Levi naked in Playgirl?

Critics have assailed Britney Spears' lip-synching during concerts during her Circus tour of Australia. Fortunately, a knight in shining armor is riding to her rescue:

Michael Buble.

The hot Canadian crooner, also in Australia to promote his album Crazy Love, told Melbourne's Herald Sun that he can't believe the vilification of Spears.

"You'd think she killed someone," he said.

"Okay, she lip-synchs her show, people know that, they make the decision if they want to go and see her do that. People need to lighten up a bit."

Buble added in his passionate defense of Britney Spears, "Does she deserve the way she's been completely bashed by the media here? No."

Michael Buble says he finds criticism of Britney Spears "nasty."

One report Spears' camp objected to: that Australian fans were so unhappy with her concerts that they walked out of at least one Circus show in droves.

That's not true, her management says, claiming that it is only one or a handful of Australian critics making this a story and Britney Nation is thrilled.

As for Buble, he's firmly in her corner - and he can even relate. "Mind you, I lip-synch all my concerts," he said, joking. "I'm the Milli Vanilli of jazz."

Michael Buble also discussed one blip in his relationship with his girlfriend, Argentine actress Luisana Lopilato, 22, a star in her native South America:

"My Spanish is not great. I'm learning slowly. She's showing me up. Her English is flawless, I sound like a caveman when I try to talk Spanish."

Earlier this week, a Miley Cyrus video got the young star into major hot water.

She was caught on film bashing the Twilight Saga, saying she "didn't believe in it" and didn't want anything to do with it.

The following video, however, is a lot less controversial and a lot more exciting for fans of the Disney robot icon.

We've uncovered the first official trailer for The Last Song, a movie written specifically for Miley by author Nicholas Sparks. In it, she stars as Ronnie, a teenager sent to live with her estranged father down south.

Aside from solid actors Greg Kinnear and Kelly Preston, the film also star Liam Hemsworth. He and Cyrus make out on screen and, sources continue to confirm, off screen, as well...

The Last Song is Miley's first, non-Hannah Montana feature film. It hits theaters on April 2. Will you go see it?

When he's not beating up Jayde Nicole, Joe Francis certainly isn't paying taxes.

The IRS wants some serious money from the sleaze, filing a lien against him for a staggering $33,819,087.14 in unpaid taxes from 2001, 2002 and 2003.

In 2001, the IRS says Joe didn't pay $17,658,358. In 2002, the delinquency is $11,238,582.14, and in 2003, he owes a much more modest $4,922,147.

It was less than two weeks ago that Francis got out of a sticky situation - and not the kind he's used to - copping a plea in a federal tax evasion case.

Joe responded to the move by the IRS, saying "I have no idea what it is."

He says he does not owe any money and, "This is total retaliation for me beating them in court." Joe says the law the IRS is using hasn't been used in 20 years.

He did not elaborate on what that is.

Joe Francis says Wednesday, the feds seized more than $100,000,000 in his accounts, forcing him to file for personal bankruptcy, which he will do today.

Couldn't happen to a better guy.

If you think you're excited for tomorrow's New Moon opening, you aren't alone.

A certain handsome, talented, British actor says he's been waiting for November 20 for months.

"It’s one of the few movies that really excites me to see the fan’s reactions,” Robert Pattinson said at the film's L.A. premiere this week. “It’s really so different from the first movie. I’ve just been so surprised and delighted by how people have reacted. The passion is so there!”

THG feels it, too. We're sending a staff member to the theater tomorrow to review New Moon in detail.

After Party Pic

Pattinson, who's been touring the globe with castmates, said he still can't believe the reaction around the world.

“It’s amazing no matter where you are visiting — everyone is so happy to see you! It doesn’t even matter what you look like. It’s definitely something I will always remember — I can tell my grandchildren!”

Grandchildren? Is that a hint that he and Kristen Stewart are trying for kids?!? Probably not.

“We had 20,000 people in Munich yesterday,” he said. “It’s kind of incredible, to have done all these cities in a week, and it’s still just as intense everywhere!”

Any time Robert wonders why, all he has to do is look in the mirror.
