Distasteful or not, is not the question.
The question is.
What does the photo mean to you?
One must look deeper than the surface of anything to find their own answers.

If choosing to be offended is an option, wise decision making is lost on you. If rationalizing this portrayal with Bible quotes to justify its secular depiction appeases your sense theology, a fundamental understanding of Christianity is lost on you. And if somehow sorting all this out is simply too complex and requires endless explorations into mammary glands, photoshop, or blaming the media, you are part of the problem and not part of the solution, sunshine.

Whether you are Catholic, or any non Catholic Christian. You know, that using a cross, for anything but religious purposes is "blasphemy".
If you are Muslim, Not only would you be appaled by the meer beauty of the woman, but that she is not covered up. However happy, that The "Infedel" Cross is being "Soiled"
If you were a Jewish person, you would wonder how much money was made off the picture.
And if you don't care, or think its art, then it is the Media Pointing things out like this now, on slow news days.
its bad enough the news channels point out, rapists, murders, pedophiles, predators of other nature, and just death and violence, that I didnt want to think of before, Now I have to Worry if a semi-Hot French bimbo does a photo shoot on the Cross?
Yes its been photoshoped, you can see the pixels in the shadows... Maybe the publisher of the original photo felt a mini "crisis of faith" and made sure it was not the back show in the shadow, as that is Reserved for the Holiest of Holy.
Just like hollywood bimbo's, who cares?
If this was done as a "This chick is hot" spread, ok, it was dumb, thump the people on the head and move on....

This is in response to the coward who posted above as G O D. We speakers of falsehoods "peverse everything" - the term would be "pervert everything". We look at the simple and draw conclusions - the conclusions that I have drawn from reading your post are 1) you are too much of a coward to use your real name as myself and others have. 2) You either have a monstrous ego or are in need of some serious therapy because where I work people who believe they are God are usually mentally ill. 3) Didn't you just break one of the 10 Commandments that says "thou shalt not use the Lord's name in vain"?
Please don't pretend to be God - because your not, and don't judge me without knowing anything about me or my life.
And to Sal, if he happens to come back on, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.

Leah,
I was going to address that guy, but I think I've said all I had to say and explaining myself further would be futile.
Some people are just too thick to listen, but you did a good job.
I had a decent Christmas. I'm currently serving in Iraq and will be home in less than 2 weeks (Lord willing)
Last year, I spent Christmas and New Years in Korea. Hopefully next year, I can be with my daughter. She is 3 years old, has celebrated 4 Christmases and I've only been with her for one :o(
Those are the things that military members deal with which are the hardest. It's not the low pay, hard job or bad leadership that is unbearable. It's the constant time spent away from family.
But we make do with what we have. There's a good church here which I go to. That really helps, along with the gym and the great food...no kidding.
Take care and God bless to all!

Who in their life has not felt that they are being crucified justly or unjustly? Perhaps it is art, (small 'a') but who cares? She is a small time model that made it big and ticked somebody off so now they dug this up.
There is a lot of repressed morality out there that needs to have a wakeup call and knock it off.
Nuff Said!
Anyway, the pic is not photoshopped, just staged. The lack of a shadow is because the cross is leaning into a pool and she is partially submerged upon it. Camera lighting angles would cause the top to be blanked out in the final image. Note also that her legs are underwater while her arms are partiall submerged and her head is not. Suggests an angle for the cross into a shallow pool.
But I will leave that to the others to calculate the angle.
Whatever

being offensive is very subjective, anyone can find anything offensive and it is the nature of being religious that there are a number of things you'd find offensive no matter which faith. As always it sounds stupid to others who do not hold the same faithes. Right now the question is what is the sane way to react to somethign that you find offensive, My 2 cents are...take it easy!!

Has anyone ever seen the making of Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue those girls just do what they tell them to do. We know the water is freezing and that the wind is blowing really hard and it's like 50 degrees out here but roll around in the water and look sexy while your teeth are chattering out of your head. It's a freaking picture she didn't physically hurt anyone. If your a christian act like one and forgive her and move on with your life.

Simply do something 'cross' wise.
Easy, simple, and you don't have all those pesky 'revenge' problems that come with drawing funny/true Muslim cartoons, or all that suffering crap that Mother Teresa went through to help neglected, starving people.
Just lay on your arse and let the $ role in.
