Everybody is tisk tisking about Edwards and how lucky he didn't get the nomination. I agree what he did was sleazy, but John McCain did essentially the same thing and he has been nominated.
The puritan in us makes us stupid. Bush started a war on a pile of lies that has killed 4,000 of our troops and maybe 100, Iraqi civilian. He also turned us into a nation that approves of torture. Far more important "sins" but little outrage. But let some politician get in the wrong bed and we get our knickers in a major twist. Sick.

Americans: Wake up before you self-destroy. Forget about who slept with who and focus on your house burning down - not that I really care since I'm not American. But as your northern neighbor, I am concerned about the USA becoming less than nothing. It's well on its way!

It's a fact of life that all humans have feet of clay. Temptation is all around. We expect more of leaders, but they often show that they are as weak as the rest of us. Rielle Hunter is likely a sweet and good woman who "knew better". I feel the most compassion for her. She will carry the brunt of the blame, but should not. We should all just take this as a lesson to learn by and move on.

When this sort of thing happens in politics, I always am upset when the wife leave, or kick the guy out. I think it sends the wrong message to Elizabeth's daughters to forgive him and help him go forward as if this wouldn't be found out. In this case, I'd leave so that my daughter would get the message that you don't just lay down and take this type of treatment from a man, much less back him up. I'd set an example for my daughter to have some backbone and kick him out.
It sounds like Elizabeth was cluless when he visited his mistress after he confessed in 2006. Now, if kept sneaking around to see this woman after he initially came clean, I would tell him not to let the doors hit him in the ass as he left for the last time.

It takes a long time to put aside the sense of betrayal after a spouse (male or female) has an affair. Unfortunately, Mrs. Edwards may not have the time to work through this process. The worst legacy of this affair may be that Elizabeth Edwards dies with the sadness and sense of failure still fresh in her mind. It's a terrible thing to do to a terminably ill person.
Most of us want and need sex, but caring adults can put their needs aside when necessary. If John Edwards needs sex, love, and reassurance of his attractiveness, how much more did/does his wife require these things? She married beneath her.

John Edwards used his wife's illness as a political tool: he vowed that during his campaign he would be by her side at a moment's notice should her condition at any time deteriorate. I wanted to believe Mr. Edward’s words not because I care about his personal life; rather, I care about how his actions reflect the way he would treat US when we, the American people, are need. Now we know: he’s consumed with his ego and feels like he can do anything. His actions at all times are directly relevant to his ability to lead (to be Commander in Chief) and should be discussed openly. The fact that his wife would help him by hiding these ugly truths merely perpetuates a conception of femininity that should have ended by now.

Please don't let your daughter grow up without ever knowing who her father is. There are so many children and adults for that matter who don't know who or where their real parents are. It is not fair to your precious daughter. It is not her fault. In her teenage years, especially she will need to experience a father's love. But I pray she will experience the heart of God the Father's love even more. Please read this note.
