I'm sadly disappointed. I like Edwards and thought he'd be a great running mate for Obama. But the blame also lies with this woman (and what's with the name change) who sounds like she's trying like heck to land herself a rich daddy for her child. At 42, she should know better and behave better. My sympathies are with Mrs. Edwards.

This is unfortunate, and I feel bad for Mrs. Edwards and their kids. HOWEVER, people need to remember that politicians are humans just like the rest of us. They're not a different species or anything.
Myself, I don't care that much about a politician's personal life, as long as they're not trying to tell me how to live my personal life. Politicians who advocate policies that concern my bedroom and what happens there but have stuff like this going on are total hypocrites. Politicians who stay out of my bedroom can do what they want in theirs, although it'd certainly be preferable that they have a healthy and respectful personal life.

My heart goes out to You " Elizabeth" and for the Home wrecker we learn "No" when we learned to talk. How many years have you been saying No? Women marry men to have kids and then make the man celibate. They take us out of the game and then call us cheaters. They are the original cheaters in the marriage by cutting us off. For better or worse does not supersede wifely or husbandly duties.
As for the cancer angle, Newt Gingrich served divorce papers on his wife while she was in her hospital bed and then his grossness hooked up with some 32 yr old filly who worked for him. Women, you must take care of the c**k or it will leave you.
Belva McKann Says:

We've had politicians on both sides of the aisle as long as this republic has existed cheating on their wives. One president even kept his mistress in the White House, and Newt Gingrich told his wife he wanted a divorce when she was in intensive care so he could cavort off with his new squeeze. Let's not forget that John McCain dumped his injured wife who had taken care of his kids while he was in the service and picked up his current uber-rich honey in Hawaii while he was on official business. There's documented evidence that George H.W. traveled with his mistress/assistant, and there are also some pretty interesting stories about women in W.'s misspent youth. JFK shared Marilyn Monroe and a large bevy of women with his brother, and it was common knowledge in his family and in the press. We've had oral sex in the oval office, assignations in hotel rooms and restrooms, homosexual and heterosexual scandals by the dozens, and so has every other country in the world. If we're going to get all Puritan about John Edwards, then we need to see all the dirt on all the guys who have sown their wild oats all over the place while running for and holding public office. Personally, I'd rather hear about what's going to happen to my family's healthcare, air, water, and education. I'm just sayin'.

This is an unfortunate situation for Mrs Edward and the Sen. himself. I can't be sympathize with them enough on situation. I pray for the heart of this women and that of Edward to seek for forgiveness from the wife and the Lord.
However, some people are commenting on this issue as they are angels. For those of you thinking that Edward has committed an untol crime, you all know yourselves. If most of us are to do a self assessment, I strongly believe this discussion will disappear in thin air. We are all human and things do happen, albiet not a justification for his actions. Most people commenting on this and proescuting the sen. have committed maybe serious offense only known to them. To Aimee: Jesus did not justify the woman's adultery. He said to her, "Go and sin no more." Where in my comment did you see justification? Jesus's point was not about what the woman did. I'm disappointed in Mr. Edwards. I really like his wife a lot - she's intelligent, charming, witty and loyal to her husband. Of all times to step out on her this showed the least class or respect. If it had been a dead end marriage to a horrible woman - I wouldn't blame him. But this is really not acceptable. I can't put my trust in this man ever again.
My question for all is: If the boss at your job had an extra maritial affair would would quit your job? Would you lose faith in that individuals ability to lead and manage? I bet you anything you said NO. Why would it be different from a politician? They work for the citizens of the this country. Thier morallity/self control/physicial impulses are no different than you or me but the problem is we hold these people to a higher moral agenda. Politics are about policies (hence the name politics) that govern our country not about the what someone does on their own time. Two of the most popular Presidents in our history had documented affairs...JFK and Regan....does this mean they are not great Presidents or leaders? Who cares??? If this person is releasing stress in which makes them more focus at the task at hand, then I don't care. Only those on the extreme Neo-Con right would make this an issue. And how ironic is it that their canidate has such a checked past with his own morality!

Your comment is reasonable, Maynard. Adultery by politicians is not politics any more than adultery by dentists is dental. Human relations are just that no matter what the profession. If adultery undermined people's abilities and competence to do a good job, all the bridges in the country would fall down, the trains would all run off the tracks, and nobody's cars would run. Making politicians' personal lives political is a trick to fool the naive.
