Seen here in 2001, Kristy Lee Cook signs a record contract. Fans of American Idol currently know her as the most impressive talent from auditions in Philadelphia. But should those with a professional background be allowed to compete on the show?

Kristy lee Cook should not be allowed to compete on the show American Idol.... she is a lier and a cheet in many ways and I have the paper work to prove it... plus she already has her own CD isn't American Idol a chance for those who don't already have a professional background ???

I feel the same way as said comment above...Kristy Lee should not be allowed to compete in American Idol with a professional background..plus I have read that she is with a Pro. Agent/ Manager (Rendelman) and has her own CD...what is up with that....??? This girl needs to GO.!!!!!!!

kristy is not that great and I feel that she should not be allowed to be on american idol as she has a CD and has a talent agent. american idol should be for the people that dont have any way to get a foot hold in this industry not for some one that is aready ahead of the game . It isin't fair to the other people that work hard to get to the place to try out. kristy has had many advantages that make her already ahead of the other people. Like giving some one a head start in running a race. Its not fair play.

you guys are crazy. anyone with a voice should be allowed to participate. its a contest. there have been back up singers and professional singers in the past, why pick on this girl? jealousy? she no longer has a contract or agent.. she qualifies. if her name has not gotten out there its her agents fault not hers... give the girl a break and quit crying

Kristy Lee has been working her butt off to get somewhere, even harder than the "inexperienced" talent out there. This is her dream and it has been snuffed out. Now that she has another chance all the jealous critics come out of the woodwork to talk crap. Kristy has an amazing voice and is no different than any backup singer who has been on the show previously. She has followed the rules completely... If she's not "that great"as Jean says than why are we even having this discussion? I think you all need to grow up, shut up and let america vote!

This girl's got game. She is an unsigned artist. She should absolutely be allowed to compete. She is far superior than ANY talent that appeared on AI6. If allowed to compete, she will have a legitimate shot at taking down AI7. I think she is, at worst, a 5-1 shot this early. That's almost laughable this early but completely obvious.

SHE IS NOT SIGNING A RECORD CONTRACT IN THIS PICTURE!!! These people are employees of BMI (Broadcast Music, Incorporated), one of three PERFORMING RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS in the U.S. who make sure that songwriters and publishers get paid their royalties. ANY BUM OFF THE STREET CAN SIGN UP WITH BMI OR THE OTHER TWO PRO'S, ASCAP AND SESAC, it does not necessarily make that person a professional. I was signed up with BMI for TEN YEARS before any of my songs ever made a single dime in royalties. THEY ARE NOT A RECORD LABEL. I know this not only because I am signed up with them as a songwriter and publisher, but also because I worked for them for eight years.

I agree with jean and kim. this is not an attempt at jealousy, its the FACTS and I know that she did sign a contract as her agent is marty rendelman. i think everyone needs a chance but not like this . she has other performances she has done in Texas I know i live there. she sang in a bar on stage and has had many opportunities regarding performances. American idol.....this is for the people that have never had a chance, she has had all the opportunities American idol is for talent as well not for some one who already had a professional career and threw it away.

I also agree with jean ,kim and janee, it don't sound like jealousy to me... It seems from what I have read that this girl has abused what talen she mite have had and if this was her dream for so long why hasn't she tryed out for american idlo before now?, and if she did have a contract why didn't she make it then? looks like this Kristy need to grow and get a job she's good at, if she can't get it by now ,"you can't teach an old dog new tricks".. she'll just be another go no where American Idol....

"shannon" said she has been working her but off for this, well her butt look pretty big to me so she must not be woking that hard:) sounds like this girl is as dry as the Texas weeds she's sang to... You go Taira, A person heard her sing her song on u tube and said she sounded like she was just a beginer well, if with all the training which she has had for years by this time she should be looking like a professional. look up her devoted video and really listen to the song. She sounds like a kid trying to sing a song that Trisha Yearwood or Faith Hill should sing. Real talent only improves with time and she has had a lot of time and still appears with faulty quality. I dont think shell make the cut on american idol if our judges look past her cut blond BS. She wont have my vote. Put the word out people and lets get some real talent to represent american idol!!!

I think this is an attempt to wake up the sleeping no it alls regarding kristy lee and her not signing a contract!!She did in fact sign a recording contract but the facts are that she handled the management group with such disrespect that she was let go, so go figure. not a good role model regarding american idol. Despit the fact that with all her trainng she is still not cutting it. pretty girl but is the talent all that it should be after years of training?

I dont think Abijah is a liar. Things seem to be brewing in her home town about how she got on American Idol so lets think about this.
All the comments above are based on a lot of facts about her talent. Can she sing anything besides Anazing Grace? if she wins it is rigged. Marty Rendleman is her agent so she already has a leg up. How many other people are represented by an agent. rendleman.com I think she should not be in contract with an agent and be allowed in the program soooo Ask your self is this fair play or not, has she already got a leg up??. Perhaps people in her home town know the real deal with this girl and perhaps Abijah is not a liar but knows how things really are. Look at her history make an un biased decision.

This is not right. I auditioned for American Idol 7 in Dallas and was turned away because I sounded too much like former talent on the show. I don't have any professional experience like her. We ALL had to sign a release stating that we were under no music contract or management and haven't been in the last 5 years. American Idol should be for pure, RAW talent that doesn't have professional experience. Its for everyday people with dreams to have their chance at stardom. Kristi Lee Cook has talent, no doubt, but she had her chance and this isn't fair. I've read online that another contestant has been nominated for a GRAMMY AWARD for writing a song for Whitney Houston. This is ridiculous. People like me, who worked hard to get to those auditions, were turned away but those who just considered it a "gig" seemed to make it.

This is so ridiculous. If someone has already signed with a agency, they should not be allowed to participate on the show. American Idol is looking for undiscovered people (without CDs) who will be the "next big thing." Also, I'm tired of hearing the whole, "I had to sell my horse to audition for the show" thing. She's from Selma, Oregon, and flew across the country to audition in Philadelphia. She could have DRIVEN to San Diego to audition there, but instead chose to fly to Philadelphia. So she needs to stop complaining about that. Anyway, I hope she is eliminated soon, but from watching the show in past years and being able to see what the people of America like, she won't be gone for a long time. Just my humble opinion :)

I really must admit this….. I think Kristy Lee Cook is TOTALLY overrated! There are so many ladies in the world that look just like her, and sing the same material as she does. I thought that American Idol is a program used to find fresh talent! I really think her singing is quite stale, and again I say….there are ladies that sing just as well, if not better, that are just as attractive as her, and I think she needs to go back to singing in bars, because….after a few drinks….I might actually think that she sounds half-way decent! When I say this, I will say that I do like country music alot, as well as other types, so when I say what I do, it has nothing to do with her style…..she's just so "cookie-cutter" to me…..kinda typical, wouldn't you say??

I can't believe all this hate from Americans. Why can't we accept that all these performers on American Idol deserve to be there and may the best win per american voters choice. Remember it's not just a talent show it is a combination of good singer, likability and showmanship.

I think Kristy Lee Cook has a great career in Country Music. She is also one of the best that Idol has had on in a long time. She really is one of the world's greatest singers. I will buy any CD she puts out. Kristy should know that the way you know you are good is when people start talking, be it good or bad, and I can see they are.

Listen. this girl blows and that's why she should not be on this show. I don't care about the other crap. She is far from professional. to me she is just another sanjaya and he blew too! She has had one or two decent performances but really has not done crap! She should of been kicked off 3 weeks ago in my opinion.

Kristy Lee Cook is not that talented. She is nothing but a reject version of Carrie Underwood. Go listen to her CD on her record label's website! It has no passion, no originality and sounds like every other young girl trying to do country music who's parents have a little money. I'm sorry, but there is much more talent out there even her category. Kristy Lee Cook could never touch Carrie Underwood or Kellie Pickler. Those two girls are from real life situations and deserved the fame that they're getting. Kristy Lee Cook is only a sad semblance of something great...and you can't say that she's young and she will "grow." You have it or you don't. Leann Rimes? Hello? She was literally a kid when the song SHE WROTE was topping the charts.
