I respect her and admire her stance. The spirit of forgiveness, integrity,and level-headedness. She is the epitome of what a woman should be.
I pray that she would be accorded the privacy she needs at this time.

Dump him. You deserve better. Who would want to be married to a man who disrespects his wife, family, state and country by leaving the country for another woman. This is high school behavoir not that of someone entrusted to run a state or potentially the USA.

What is wrong with these men? I bet his mistress is 15 yrs younger. Women raise your kids, help you through hard times until you get success, than you become a teenage boy in his 40's running after young girls.

It's not primarily about having a duty to one's wife (or husband), it's about loving a person. These people don't know what it means to--as the song goes--really love somebody. They live in fantasy-worlds because they don't know anything better. If he had really cared about his family, he could not even thought about involving himself in an affair.

I'm appalled that he (Sanford) would think it was okay, even in his internal turmoil to think he was acting rational by leaving the country for a week long rump with his mistress. Why do we as men lose it totally when it comes to the opposite sex. Be a man and be honest first with yourself, and follow through with whatever arrangements are made thereafter. Not destory your family over the worlds oldest trade, grow up Governor.

The name of mistress is María Belén Shapur, she lives in one of the best parts of Buenos Aires and got a degree at the Universidad Católica Argentina (and perhaps is of muslim origin) glup!!!!! :-( She also speaks chinese, portugues and of course english.

I lost my respect for her after this. There are more important things in life than old fashioned Christian values. If she wants to inspire character in her children, she should show them by example the importance of being authentic, honest with -and respectful of- oneself. She should show the rest of the world that it's possible to kick someone to the curb after such betrayal, and then live alone as an independent woman (or take a 20 year younger Brazilian lover). That would be integrity. The "spirit of forgiveness" is usually motivated by other than honest motives, I'm afraid.
And maybe Sanford really loves Maria Shapur?
