I’m usually right about this stuff and I know that David is definitely going to make it to the top three if he keeps his head on straight and stays humble. “Remember Ms Doolittle?” She had the voice and stayed humble… she should have won! David fortunately has Charisma and a great stage presence plus… a past experience at performing…. not to mention, an incredible voice! He’s a natural. Another point… if you look at Simon’s facial expressions when David sings it is approval all the way… (Simon believe it or not really knows how to pick winners!) David’s voice is pure and clean… if you close your eyes when you listen to him sing it is flawless. He has such a command over his vocal chords. One warning tho… easy on the falseto… let’s not be a Timberlake wannabe like one of the past contestants. If David plays his cards right he will have all the teenage girls and grandmas voting for him that will take him to the top… but most of all he may take it all because he is truly talented…. Whatever you sing David, make it your own and I wish you nothing but the best. Most of all have fun and enjoy yourself and never forget where you came from. God Bless!

I am so glad that David is on AI this season !! I fell in love with this sweet kid and his fantastic voice when he was on Star Search. When I saw David auditioning, I knew that AI was going to deliver on its promise of “the best season” yet !! I was amazed by David’s talent, poise, and charm as a 12-year-old and was overjoyed to see that these attributes have only increased since then. In years past, I have rooted for contestants but rarely called to vote. Rest assured, I know what I will be doing for 2 hours a week the next few weeks … voting for David !! All I can say is GO DAVID.. you deserve every bit of it !!

this kid is awesome! It is most unusual that a youngster such as he to have, like Simon says” Likeable, Goodlooking and can sing” which, to all of the above, is the truth. Pure and smply put, the boy is a triple threat and will certainly go far in this competition.
For your information Christine, David is absolutely NOT gay. I know his family very well and have known him since he was a child.
He is going to be huge in the entertainment business because he is the REAL deal. Not only did God give David a beautiful voice, he gave him a beautiful spirit too. The reason he has touched so many people with his singing is because his voice is a physical representation of that beautiful spirit within.
David has such an amazing gift and his personality is adorable. If he can remain humble, he will make it to the top.
As far as being gay, although ernest may know him and his family, you may not know if David is gay. That is a very personal thing to come to terms with at 16 and I am sure he doesn’t want to announce it to the world if he is. Being gay myself I see things in David that may be showing signs of being gay. However in this day and age why should it even matter. Let him sing and win Idol and be proud of his accomplishments regardless of his sexuality.

Anyone bothered watching TMZ lastnight? Besides the arch angle website he has, and the already existing cd’s, and the star search title… i find him fake because he likes to play the innocent and inexperienced type. now dont paralyze a vocal chord over this, but i just prefer more honest people.
Seems like a really nice kid and certainly extremely talented. But I have a hard time with contestants who already have successful careers or have won major competitions competing on this show. I know the producers decide who is eligible, not me, but what I LIKED about American Idol was the idea that a complete unknown might be “discovered.” It seems like next they’re going to say “As long as you haven’t sold 100,000 records you’re eligible.” I may stop watching. But I wish all the amatuers and pros well… They certainly attract viewers.
He’s a really great singer, very talented. I can’t wait to see him go to the top at only seventeen. I have to speak for most of the teenage girls throughout the country by saying that I’m voting for you, David Archuleta!

Coming from a gay person, yes there is a huge possibility he’s gay. Have you ever heard of keeping it on the “down low”? And girls always ask why all the cute guys turn out to be gay and he definatly is cute. But anyways, he’s a really good singer and I hope he wins as well. and several this year already had recored deals, such as Kristy lee cook and carly smithson(2.2 million dollars was spent on smithson) still she is not a household name and each one their deserves their chance–the past is gone– only the future should count

Just finished watching the boys sing on American Idol and I gotta tell you……no one will remember who sang what after David’s rendition of John Lennons - Imagine. Absolutely flawless and moving performance. So he won on Star Search, So he has a vocal coach so,so so….It only means that he is serious about his craft and wants to take it to the next level. Any of you that dog him for wanting to succeed should take a long hard look at yourself. We all should have this much drive! Keep it up David the sky’s the limit!
I have never heard a rendition of Imagine done in that way, i dont know how he did it but he did. he is an exceptional singer with great song choices. the show should end now because he is obviously the best one by far.
You blew the competition away tonight! My son who does promotion for Velvet Hammer records made us rewind the TIVO and watch your performance 3 times. It’s saying something when a 26 year-old male (who has an ear for music) respects a great vocal. He is working with a local Dallas, TX based band One Minute Halo and they are in the studio recording with the Grammy nominee band PILLAR (christian rock).
You have many records deals coming your way. Kudos!
I think its hillarious how ernest finds gay an insult. I agree, i see a lot of the same signs in him. He has that shy sensibility that I seemed to have before I came out..

I think he took the teeth out of Imagine by cutting all the anti-religious lyrics out of it. I don’t know if John Lennon would be happy. But, that’s what being brainwashed by a religious cult like mormonism will do to you. I have little doubt the elision was because he didn’t dare say anything as bold and beautiful as “Imagine there’s no Heaven,” one of the great opening lyrics of all time. And, as for the gay issue…as long as he is a mormon, don’t be expecting any coming out stories (though he might really straight, but I doubt it.)
Jeez, here some people go with the “is he gay or not” stuff. Can’t a guy be cute and sensitive without assuming he’s gay? If he was unattractive nobody would wonder if he’s gay, you know what I mean? It’s 2008 people, grow the hell up, his personal life is not our business.
Sorry, I have one last comment. He reminds me of a young Donny Osmond. Cute, great smile, confident but modest, people are drawn to his natural charm like a magnet. And I’m pretty sure he’ll age well, he has an interesting bloodline. All he needs to remember is to smile and the world will be his. David WILL do well in life as a singer or not as a singer because he’s simply a good person. I’m not a religious guy, but I’ll say Bless You, David. David without doubt is very gifted. Here’s the bad news…
Most often what happens with gifted people in this world is that post-haste they are exploited, elevated to god-like levels, and stalked by fans that lead the “gifted person” to be isolated and walled off from their humanity to others.
David will be no exception, most everything many people see in David now-sincerity, his love for music and his soul injection, will now have to be fought for vigorously by David and his family and his true friends if he is to survive as a person now that time cannot be turned back to live a “normal” life we all live.
David, if you ever read these posts, good luck and God bless, you have an uphill fight with your deserved but double-edged fame.

Soooo…..he sang a Dreamgirls song when he was 11 (before the movie made it popular), and some of you think he’s straight?? Although I agree with the other people, it really isn’t any of our business. What IS our business is how awesome of a talent he is. He is the ONLY Idol that I’d actually buy a ticket to see in concert. He is simply amazing. Good luck David!!
It’s unfortunate that a young man who is genuine, humble, and incredibly talented is assumed to be deficient in some way. If a kid today has to curse, drink and do drugs to be considered a real man, then our society is in sad shape. When I first saw David early in the competition, I thought he was great. Finding out that he goes to church is just icing on the cake.
My wife and I listened to David’s version of Imagine 10 times tonight. The first three times I had to turn my back so she couldn’t see my eyes. Anyone who stirs that kind of emotion is a special talent, regarless of age or anything else.

David is an absolutely beautiful singer. Straight or Gay, it doesn’t define the person he will become. This boy has a lot going for him, and I look forward to seeing him grow and excel in the music industry. His voice is phenomenal. When I first heard him audition, I thought he was a great singer, but was not sure what more he had. Like so many that come up there, one is good, but the rest are horrible. I’ve consistantly seen nothing but pure harmony in his voice. He’s a wonderful talent, a great find and a wonderful person. Good Luck David, you are a god send.

David has got to win this competition. He has moved me to tears with every preformance and i fall in love with him everytime i hear his voice. He is absolutely adorable and handsome and sweet. I can tell that he will stay that way and not get a big head. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!!! From the looks of things, 17-year-old David Archuleta is following in the footsteps of another 17-year-old singer — Jordin Sparks, who, at the conclusion of the sixth season of “American Idol,” was crowned the victor, making her the youngest winner in the show’s history.
For Archuleta, a young Salt Lake City denizen with boyish charm, a stylish look, silky vocals and overly goofy modesty, the road to the season-seven finale is still a long ways away, but early on in the competition, he seems the clear — and perhaps unassailable — front-runner. Even acerbic judge Simon Cowell, who doesn’t seem at all impressed with this season’s crop of contenders, called Archuleta out as the one to beat during Tuesday night’s episode.
While Cowell prefaced his praise by saying that Archuleta’s decision to tackle John Lennon’s “Imagine” was “very, very risky to do,” he admitted it “worked” and added that “right now, you’re the one to beat.” Likewise, judge Randy Jackson dubbed the performance “one of the best vocals I’ve ever heard on the show,” and a teary Paula Abdul called it “one of the most moving performances I’ve ever heard,” adding that the young singer is “destined for superstardom,” as she dabbed her eyes.
Archuleta, who dazzled inaugural “Idol” champ Kelly Clarkson with his pipes at the tender age of 11, has it all: He’s cute (his performance ignited an almost Beatlemania-esque response from the dozens of teenage girls in the studio audience), he can sing, and he hasn’t yet been tainted by the corruptive music biz. But is Archuleta the earliest front-runner to emerge in the show’s seven years? And will his current popularity come back to bite him in the butt later on in the competition?
“It’s only the second week, and this guy almost couldn’t perform last night because there were so many tween girls flipping out in the audience,” Cantiello pointed out. “Peaking this early could come back to haunt him. People may tire of the ‘aw shucks’ thing, and his ‘prior experience’ [Archuleta won the junior-singers competition on "Star Search" when he was 12] might eventually turn people off. Even this morning, I read a few upset comments about how he ‘recycled’ his ‘Imagine’ performance from a local Utah talk show after a clip popped up on YouTube.”
Michael Slezak, a senior writer for Entertainment Weekly who has become known for his “Idol” coverage, agrees with Cantiello.
“I think at this point calling him the ‘early front-runner’ would be an understatement,” Slezak said. “He’s that cuddly, cute contestant that tweens and grandmas alike can get behind, and that’s a pretty powerful voting bloc. We’ve seen what Sanjaya Malakar and John Stevens and Kevin Covais did in the competition without being particularly great vocalists, just on the cute, teen merits alone, that I think this kid has that plus — what we’ve seen so far — a pretty good singing voice. I don’t know if I’m ready to call it a great singing voice yet. It’s too early to hand him the competition, but on the other hand, if someone said bet all your money on one contestant to win, it would be David Archuleta.”
Cantiello said it’s obvious that Archuleta has the full support of the show’s producers, as evidenced by his cushy closing spot on Tuesday’s show. And more important, he’s got Cowell in his pocket.
“I would give him some strong advice and tell him that he needs to bomb one of these early weeks,” Cantiello said. “For some reason, ‘Idol’ history shows that the more flawless someone appears to be early on, the harder they fall later for the tiniest mess-up. If he’s too perfect up until the top four or top three, and then gives a subpar performance that week, ‘Idol’ past suggests he’ll have a huge target on his back.”
Slezak agreed and thinks Archuleta isn’t without his weaknesses.
“Nobody likes a contestant to peak too early on ‘Idol,’ ” he said. “It sort of takes the fun out of it for viewers if it becomes a 15-week coronation march for him. I think there will be moments where the judges are tough on him, maybe even overly tough on him, because I don’t think they want this season to be a forgone conclusion before we reach the final 12. Also, he does have to watch the ‘aw shucks’ factor. I think he seems like a genuinely nice kid, and seems genuinely excited to have that kind of feedback. We did see a little clip of him the other week where he was like, ‘I never thought I was good,’ and you kind of just think, ‘OK, reel that in.’ It’s just hard to believe when you see all the YouTube clips of him singing from 11 onward — you know you’re good, don’t pretend you don’t think you’re good.”
Like many before him, Archuleta’s impact is being felt early on, and it seems he can do no wrong. But looking back at some of the show’s other early front-runners, it’s clear what you do in week two doesn’t ensure you’ll make it to week three. During the second season, as soon as Frenchie Davis belted out a note during her audition, audiences figured she’d assume the crown from Kelly Clarkson. Then topless photos of her surfaced online, and she was finished. Season four’s Mario Vasquez also seemed an obvious lock for the finale, but then dropped out right before the top 12 for “personal reasons,” which changed the entire dynamic of the competition.
Cantiello also points out that America’s first “Idol,” Kelly Clarkson, “was a slow build, as far as her support went.” No one noticed her during the show’s first week of competition, but she ultimately came out on top, besting that season’s early front-runner, Justin Guarini, who had several detractors — which Archuleta doesn’t seem to have just yet.
“This kid seemingly has the entire package,” Cantiello said. “He’s got [early season-six front-runner] Melinda Doolittle’s vocal prowess and bashful modesty, Jordin Sparks’ appealing young age, Disney Channel good looks, [season-six contestant] Sanjaya Malakar’s fanatical tween-girl fanbase. Plus, he showed off his range by rocking an uptempo last week and devouring a ballad last night. There’s no one-trick Taylor Hicks pony show happening.”
Season-five champ Hicks was another early favorite who acquired a huge fanbase right off the bat. But his “Idol” popularity couldn’t sustain a career, and he was eventually dropped from his label because of poor album sales.
“Compared to every other singer this season — boy or girl — Archuleta seems to be in another league entirely,” Cantiello said.
As far as Archuleta’s closest competition going forward, Slezak said he’s keeping his eyes on David Hernandez and Jason Castro on the men’s side (”But neither of them look like people who are going to really be able to get the same number of votes as Archuleta at this point,” he said), and on the women’s, Asia’h Epperson, Amanda Overmyer and Carly Smithson. “[Smithson] is sort of the front-runner coming in, and has had her share of publicity, and if she can live up to the hype, I think she can give David a little run for his money,” he said
David Archuleta has been called “The Soul man from Utah,” the “Soul Midget King,” “Mini Motown Monster” and a singing prodigy. David’s natural “soulful” voice has captivated America through his performances on Jenny Jones and most recently as the junior singer grand prize winner of Star Search 2. David Archuleta was born in Miami, Florida on December 28th 1990 and spent the first six years of his life in various cities in florida. In February of 1997, David and his family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where he lives with his parents, his brother and 3 sisters and 2 cats. He comes from a musical family where his mother sings both Spanish and English pop music, and his dad is a jazz trumpet player. David began singing at the age of 6 when he memorized several songs from the Les Miserables 10th anniversary concert, complete with English and Cockney accents.
