  1. Michael Says:

The mayor is flawed and human - we all are. The mayor had an affair - too many humans do. These failings were elevated to the level of crime when he fired police officers who were members of his security detail. These firings seem linked to an effort to cover the affair. The human failing became a larger issue when the mayor made it one. Forgiveness is possible, but it must follow from humility, and the mayor seems to lack it right now.

For those who see this as linked to the mayor's race, I would only submit that his failing is one that happens all too often. Politicians of every race and every nationality have affairs and, in so doing, misuse their elected office. In order to maintain their job, they lie to cover it up - the lie becomes a crime. The mayor's race, and the number of African-American's who live in Detroit are both beside the point.

Mayor Kilpatrick would be better off following Elliot Spitzer's lead. Own up to his mistakes, make a sincere apology, and humble himself.

William from Atlanta - while I agree that educational pedigree is not proof of intelligence (see, e.g., President Bush), your sweeping assertions about people of color are phenomenally ignorant - join the 20th century so that you're at least in the vicinity of those of us in the 21st.

  2. ramon Says:

Please, why do people in office keep refering to thei indescretions as personal matters" if he could not keep his word to his wife and cheated on her the mother of his children and the women that he looks in the face every night before going to bed, what makes anyone think that he will keep his oath to the city.

  3. Common Sense Says:

It never fails, Americans continue to show their RACE BIASES in every situation possible. This man lying under oath and cheating on his wife has NOTHING to do with his RACE. People claim to be so EDUCATED but when reading and listening it's clear education and common sense play no role in intelligent discussions. This man may be a liar or whatever you choose to call him but attributing it to his race is beyond ridiculous. President Clinton did the very thing, so by the "logic" of many, it is okay to liken every White man to this behavior right?

  4. William Says:

Michael - actually it is you who are "phenomenally ignorant" if you really believe that racial preferences do not result in unqualified people gaining acceptance to educational institutions and jobs. It follows from simple logic that if a decision is made based partly on a totally irrelevant factor (race), other totally relevant factors (achievement, intelligence, character) will lose influence. The result will be what we see here in this clown Kilpatrick and in so many other instances as well - a totally incompetent, low class idiot occupying a station that requires abilities and character traits far above those he possesses.

I'm sure you've had no problem at all justifying in your own mind the demonization of President Bush over the last 7 years. Why don't you try applying those same standards to everyone, even if they are not the demon white male?

My assertions may contradict your preconceptions of what the world should be, but they are absolutely consistent with reality.

  5. tarah Says:

I live in a suburb of Detroit and I must say that the Mayor has done a fine job of improving Detroit. We have come a long way since he came into office. Heck he has done more than the darn Governor. However, this does not justify Lying under oath when you are a public official, or having police officials fired, or using tax payers money for your own luxery. (This list could go on.) This is a sad time for our city because he could have been a great Mayor had he had better moral values.
We also have to think of the hard times with our ecenomy and he didn't think twice to acknowledge this when he was galavanting around on "our" dime.
Also, he has two boys so now we have 2 more Kilpatricks to look forward to in the future. UUURGH! Lets just hope Carlita (his wife) will teach them the morals they need that their father is NOT showing them.

  6. DIANE Says:

I too live in the suburbs of Detroit and I must say actions speak louder then words. As Mayor of the City of Detroit you have made us all look bad. You are no better then any other citizen of the great Sate og Michigan. You act like you are someone special, Guess What? You are not. I think the time has come to have you face what is coming to you. I feel that you can not go on thinking you are running the City.
The truth is the City Council is or should be running the City of Detroit. At least they are hard work & honest people. As for you wife, what is wrong with her? Loving you as she does, she still
has to be hurting, along with your children. You are not a good example to either of these people or for that matter the Citizens of Michigan. It is time to wake up and smell the Flowers as well as the charges that you are facing. Your time has finally come. Can't wait to see what happens.

  7. steve Says:

    William from Atlanta-
Michael is right. so are you-
Quotas are a thing of the past.... and schools mean nothing. I went to boarding school in New England and Stanford, and I know plenty of stupid people from school. are you one of them?
get with the program. you both have good points. I live no where near Detroit but I have plenty of family from there. This guy is a blemish upon the Black race and Detroit constituency. Upbringing and schools mean nothing today. He usurped his privilege, profiled himself as a rapper cum fashiionista a la JayZ, and took advantage of his office. He screwed up big time and worse, his artifice dictates that he is not ready to own up to it. Worse still, he believes his bumbling swagger can save him. It's so over for him and people need to realize that privilege does not equate rapacious behaviour, crime does not pay, even if you are a homeboy elected official.

  8. Darryl S. Former Detroiter Says:

My, my...Detroit really elected a LOSER. It's time the voters woke up and really elect someone who cares about the city's future. I grew up in the 70's and 80's in Detroit and saw the decline because the leadership (black and white) failed to diversify the economy. Kilpatrick was a wild card and is an example of not knowing who you're voting for. AND TO YOU WHITE FOLKS DISSING BLACK PEOPLE IN GENERAL ON THIS BLOG, REMEMBER, DETROIT IS LIKE IT IS ECONOMICALLY BECAUSE OF RACISM AND WHITE GREED....SURE, BLACK LEADERSHIP CONTRIBUTED, BUT IT WAS RACISM OVER THE YEARS THAT GREATLY CONTRIBUTED TO THIS TYPE OF DECLINE WE'RE SEEING IN DETROIT...SO LET'S GET REAL ABOUT IT!!

  9. kieve Says:

Okay sandy cheeks, don't you ever pass judgement on me. What do you mean you're tired of taking care of me. Trick you don't even know me, you're just another typical whining liberal who surreptitiously bring your complaints, and racism toward blacks to the table. Stormfront is available for you to whine all day long. My break is over, now let me go back to work, so you won't have to take care of me (roll eyes)

Now don't start anything with your ranting, just practice making sensible posts from now on.

  10. kieve Says:

I almost forgot, Kwame is a guilty thug all day long. Christine Beatty's mushface ass abused her power as well. However, I don't feel sorry for anyone but his children, I don't even feel sorry for the wife because she knows he's a pimp and she's willing to stay with him to preserve her status as the first lady of the city. Just another constitutional-protected opinion. You all have a good day, buh bye.

  11. leo Says:

When is Kwame's wife Carlita going to pay back the money she stoled from Kwame's charity? Corruption runs deep with this couple.

  12. etienne lawson Says:

Let's see; your sexually affair cost the city of Detroit almost 9 million dollars, yet it's nobody's business because it is of a personal nature. Hmmm . . . If a man can lie and cheat on his wife and family, he's capable of doing anything!! If you stand before GOD and make a covenant with him to love, honor and obey, yet you can look at your wife and lie to her while you sleep with a whore, then you can lie to your constituents as well. Kwame, you are a weak imitation of what a real man should be!!

  13. Evelyn Says:

Getting soooooo enraged knowing that there are racists who have terrible opinions of Blacks. It really hurts WILLIAM and SANDY CHEEKS. Why don't you just worry about your own race and keep your very stupid racists comments AMONGST yourselves. RACE SHOULD NOT EVEN BE A FACTOR IN THIS DISCUSSION. HATERS!!!

  14. Angel Says:

IMAGINE AND ELEPHANT TRYNA DO AN ANT, THAT WOMAN NEEDS HER HEAD BASHED IN BY CARLITA, SHE WAS SPEAKING TO THIS WOMAN AND BEEN IN HER HOUSE AND EVERYTHING, HOPE CHRISTINE GET HER.. SHE IS GOING TO BECOME SOME UGLY BUTCH WOMANS BITCH

  15. Imari Adams Says:

Steven R, you hit the nail on the head, however, the deterioration began long before the 60s and the issue of blacks inundating the city with hip hop and welfare vouchers...no my friends, this goes back to the late 1700s, when a certain party ordaining themselves with elaborate headware set up a regional office in the heart of the city.

When the WHIG party first started out, they were clearly about the people, for the people and by the people. They summoned the fears of the common man and mixed them with the hopes of the down-trodden to make a potent brew that any man, woman or child could drink. They took the soul of the establishment and gave it legitimacy with a series fo public demonstrations and private endeavors that put this nation on it's heels.
They gave us something to believe in.
Known for staging some of the first sit ins similar to those in the civil rights movement at local taverns too numerous to mention, they rallied for new pony express horses in poor neighborhoods, publicly demanded wagon wheels at a time when wagons were luxuries reserved for the wealthy...demanded fair housing and treatment of siphilus for the poor, as well as lobbied local government for Bo Weevil relief packages for the wilting states of the Confederacy. A young and perhaps niave Crispus Attucks was the president of the Philedelphia chapter, long before he ever even held a musket.
But in the fall of 1789, something happened to that prestigous organization.
Attucks was ousted in a close vote where he was pitted against a young John Wilkes Booth..and from that point on....
well that ogranization went to hell in a handbasket. Simple tasks that seemed like clockwork under Attucks' regime became complicated....for example, Whig night at the Shriner's lodge was a needed and necessary relief for citizens who were already feeling the brunt of a newly introduced "Corn Field" tax that all but crippled most of the state...and yet Booth immediately not only cancelled Whig night, but replaced it abruptly and without advertisment, diverting the resources to a series of "Evenings At The Theatre"...perhaps a troubling sign of things to come.
Under Booth's leadership, many of the social activities the Whigs were known for such as public corn husking, the annual Whig parade through the swamp, as well as the Whig annual Mountie's Ball ( a joint effort with Canada celebrating law enforcement across borders) seemed to all but dissapear...being replaced with more tame events like public effigy construction, the Whig annual adoption drive for displaced kittens, and the often criticized "Burlursque night" at the Louis Pasteur's" summer home.
It was clear that this was a city that was bleeding..

Fast forward almost 2 centuries later and the trail of bread crumbs that lead to Kwame Kilpattrick is disturbing. and inescapable. The man's very house is located at the site of an old Whig brothel. The corruption that Booth brought to the party is as evident today as it was at the cusp of the 18th century. In fact...sometimes when I look at him...I mean really stare into Kilpatrick's face, I actually see Booth...if not in name, at least in philosophy.
    I mean, wake up people....
it's not a conincidence that of the 67% of Philedelphia's married population of African Americans who cheat on their wives, 97% of those men live in areas where Whig politics were left to run amuck virtually unpolicied all throughout the 18th century. This city has become a brothel that likes to masquerade as a church. Instead of blaming Kwame and those like Kwame for simply rising to attention when the corpses of these forgotten chickens rise from their graves and roost at our expense as we watch in horror and disbelief; we need to start understanding why Philedelphia is unable to overcome the mindset that continuously puts a man in a position to fail.
Well it didn't start with this mayor, and it certainly won't end here....
America loves to cite the symptom and not the disease. Well if we are ever to grow and turn this hellhole of a ghetto that Philedelphia has been sodomized into beneath the fornication of impotent policies that have left our city cripplped...we must first start by resurrecting the ghosts of our most shameful past and killing them once and for all.
It starts in your mirror my friends....
    it starts in your mirror.

  16. Seth Antoine Willoughby Says:

Mr. Adams is right...the peculiar fabric of WHigism that has been stitched into the multicolored quilt that is America...this oh so perplexing Whig issue has been swept under the rug for too long.
I plan to vote for John Mccain in November, not because he is the better candidate or that he will improve the many economic and socal issues confronting us...but because Obama has aligned himself with 3rd generation Whig sympathizers, time and time again.
It's pretty hard for me to imagine America without Whig influence. It's in every echelon of our culture. It doesn't matter whether I am watching "American Idol," participating in a Civil War re-enactment, visiting the Crispus Attucks Museum, or even buying the latest cd by Missy Elliot, I CANNOT SEEM TO SHIELD MY CHILDREN FROM CONSTANT WHIG PROPAGANDA.
If this country doesn't come out of it's dream state and realize that we are a heart-beat away from a modern day Corn field tax...well then maybe we are all just better off dying in our easy chairs as we fall asleep to the Kwame Kilpatricks of the world singing us the lullaby of lies.
    -Seth Willoughby

  17. Sad for Detroit Says:

How sad - to see comments like those above (Wanda) - The Mayor doesn't CARE about you Detroiters - if he did he would not be in the mess he is right now - So much potential but power going to his head and he ruined what could have been a great thing for the city - Although for the Mayor it's been bred into him by his mother and father - have you seen them in the news lately - the city is in disarray and someone needs to an end the madness - Happy to NOT live in the city and won't visit unitl the mess is cleaned up! If nothing else the MAyor should care about what his childrens legacy will be I'm sad to say they probably won't be much different then the family they have been born to.
    Sad for Detroit

  18. dogsRbetter Says:

on March 21st, 2008 wilbur rh wrightIII Says:
LOOK AT UGLY ASSED LAURA BUSH!

HOW DARE you, low life guttersnipe, insult the finest First Lady this nation has ever known! Barbara was also a great lady, although a bit more "shoot from the hip" than our lovely, gracious and dignified current First Lady. Laura Bush chose a career in educating children, (unlike money grubbing Osama Bama's 'ole lady) and has lived an exemplary life. I suppose you admired that old hag Jackie O? Sold to the Kennedy’s by her daddy and then sold herself to the ugliest man on the planet, but oh so rich, Onassis. Why anyone considered her a role model I haven't a clue. Maybe cause she was skinny and wore clothes well? What good thing did she ever do in her life? Kept a stiff upper lip when JFK was murdered? Maybe she just knew how to hide her feelings, her true self, her real reactions as taught by that odd strata of society. Being thin, fake and quiet-ahhahhh-now that is really something. You insult women, humans and the country. Ever seen shallow Hal? Why on earth does it matter what a woman looks like, her dress size or how cloth drapes on her? Grow up, get a grip, and gain mastery of the English Language. Perhaps you should have had teachers as good as Miss Laura. Her obvious love and respect for her spouse should inspire us all. True, though, some are incapable of mimicking human attributes.

  19. Kay -Bahamas Says:

He's a good man! Darryl S.I think that you're the loser- Mr. Former Detroiter! He'll rise from this!! That family is well LOVED IN THE BAHAMAS!! You'll don't know what you'll gat!

  20. marytee Says:

Well, he's gone--and not the least bit sorry for the harm he's caused the city. Let's hope the city charter is amended to prevent convicted felons from running for office in Detroit. That will take care of Kwame Kilpatrick.

He was a young man with such promise. He squandered it and remains clueless as to what happened.

  21. Christine Beatty Says:

Why the hell does this bitch have to have the exact same name as me?! Hell, she looks even more like a transsexual woman than I do: www.glamazon.net
