Ryan O’Neal recently sat for an interview with Barbara Walters. He told the 20/20 show host that he and his long time companion Farrah Fawcett are planning to get married.

According to O’Neal, he has asked his partner many times over the years and most of the time she assumed he was joking. With her condition deteriorating, the actor says they will definitely tie the knot when she is able–though he indicates that she is not well enough at this point to utter the words “I do”.

Fawcett has been battling anal cancer since 2006. A two-hour documentary entitled Farrah’s Story aired in May 2009. O’Neal reported at that time that his partner is heavily sedated to ease her discomfort and spends all of her time in bed. They lightened up her meds on the evening the documentary aired so that she could watch the film of her cancer journey.

We have just learned that Farrah has been hospitalized again in a Southern California hospital and is expected to be released today. Ryan O’Neal has reportedly asked a judge to allow her son Redmond O’Neal to get a temporary leave from jail to visit his ailing mother.

The 20/20 hour long interview will air Friday on ABC at 10:00 p.m. eastern. View a photo from Fawcett’s hit television series Charlie’s Angels below.
