Carly Hennessy is now known as Carly Smithson. She's not an unknown artist. The singer's debut album received over $2 million from MCA Records. It failed, and now Hennessy is trying to win American Idol. Should she be allowed to?

I think that it's wrong that American Idol should allow Carly Hennessy-Smithson to compete. She had her chance where others have not and it shouldn't be allowed.

I think she should. Everyone gets a second chance. At least she is talented and not on there for being extremely gay and having great hair.

She should be disquailified from being on the American Idol. I agree she has already had her chance now give someone who is coming from nowhere a chance.

I guess it depends on the rules. I have always thought that there have been professionals on the show for years and I'm not surprized. I do like Carly but I'd prefer an unknown winner rather than someone with a retinue of personal assistants and voice coaches and limos to get around in.

Let her try - she's a talented singer and isn't that what the competition is about? All I can say is that her voice gives me chills - that should be enough to give her the chance to compete

when i first heard her sing i liked her and she is very good. and its not like she has a deal now. that was years ago. anyway i think she should be allowed and i will be voteing for her

Hell no, she should be booted off the show. She had a CD out, this is for Amateurs not pro's.

Carly should get a chance, and I hope she does well! Every year they had someone on that either had a record deal or sang 'back up' as a professional on tours... she is no different. Malinda Doolittle wasn't an 'amateur' she sang professionaly for years!

Maybe you people don't understand the deapth of her "professional" singing career. She HAD A 2 MILLION DOLLAR RECORD DEAL, MADE A 250,00 DOLLAR MUSIC VIDEO, HAD DONE NUMEROUSE ENDORSEMENTS AND SUNG AT LARGE ENOUGH VENUES THAT BRIAN ADAMS HAD PERFORMED THERE. She's had her chance, she blew it. And just because you've gotten paid to sing doesn't make you as big of a star as Carly had been. I had a friend try to get on there and they wouldn't accept her because she had an agent. Now tell me, is that fair? To let someone who's had a record deal on over someone who just had an agent?
