9 Things BANNED in the Duggar Family

What was wrong with those rules ? I know I've had creepy guys feel me up win a weird hug. Nothing wrong with avoiding confusion on halloween. That dance thing is nasty and gross that was posted on here. I see the point of not taking the boys to the beach. Even though I grew up with our own private beach & a swimming pool I still wore a one piece. I felt I shouldn't be flashing my body off to just anyone and it was wrong to be a temptation for the guys that came over.......Perhaps if more parents were paying attention to what their kids watched and listened to and what their kids are talking about with friends, there would be a-lot less teen pregnancy's. Less social disease spread and more faithfulness with couples.

The Duggars are a God loving family. Not one thing wrong with that. How they raise their kids is their business, not yours!! Just like how you raise your kids is not your neighbors' business! Give it a rest people!! It only hurts you if you get yourselves up in arms with putting the family down and saying unkind things about them!!!!

Tara, I'm sorry that anyone is calling you names, but I didn't not call you names, nor did I disrespect you in any way. I asked you a few questions (which you have not answered). I may not agree with you, but I believe you have inherent worth as a fellow human being.

Avatar
@ Norma Harris-Check

I believe Tara was referring to the recent issue in Fayetteville where the Duggars actively campaigned to get the anti-discriminatory law repealed. And won. So now, just because someone is part of the LGBT community around there, they are legally unprotected against discrimination for obtaining jobs and housing.

Avatar
@ Norma Harris-Check

Yes it is their business.. but once they are on tv and start spreading their message of hate to everyone it becomes not ok. Have you heard the story about the 12 year old little boy who committed suicide because of people who think like this they do??? It is unfair, hateful and not right. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but once your opinion starts negatively effecting the lives of others, there is a problem.

Avatar
@ Tara Bassler Baldridge

but couldnt someone with homosexuality get a job near young boys, if we didnt have this law? Why cant they just keep their sexual urges to themselves? Why does anyone have to know?

Avatar
@ Tara Bassler Baldridge

So, you're only allowed to hold "approved" opinions? People's opinions have consequences, regardless of whether they are pro LGBT or not. And it is not the fault of those who disagree with the LGBT position that certain people have committed suicide. That was their decision. No one forced them to kill themselves. And in order to fix this issue of people killing themselves due to the beliefs of others (as you claim), what are we going to do exactly - have a government approved list of correct opinions, and everyone who disagrees will just be thrown in prison for believing that way? Mmm.... sounds a lot like facism to me. Maybe you should move to a country where the Freedom of Speech isn't protected and see how you like it. The reality is that people are responsible for their own actions, and it is not everyone else's fault when people do tragic things. What if the Christians were in charge and your opinion was "hurting" little christian girls and boys? What if all atheist, agnostic, buddhist, islamic, etc, shows were shut down because the Christians didn't like what they were saying and they claimed it was "harmful" to their young people? How do you distinguish between that scenario and what you're advocating for? There is no difference. The reality is that you don't like the idea of free speech, and you want anyone who disagrees with you to be silent and not have any public platform. That's not the way this country works. If you don't like it, move to the People's Republic of North Korea and see how your philosophy works in real life.

Uhh, that is what they are doing. They are and have been advocating bigotry in the name of Christianity. They are the farthest thing from Christian that can be. Look at the new Pope, he is espousing TRUE Christianity. You cannot not judge and spread lies about LGBT persons and feel you are really Christian. Lying and judging are direct violations of Chrit's teachings.

Avatar
@ Dulcey75

Really then you should practice what you preach, because you all are just as guilty then!! 2 wrongs do not make a right so stop passing the same judgment you say we're passing to others especially the LGBT!!

Avatar
@ Dulcey75

True Christianity is found in the Bible and in the proper handling and interpretation of Scripture. The Pope doesn't have a cornerstone on this. He is not infallible and can be wrong.

@ Tara Bassler Baldridge

When did they ever spread a message of hate on tv??? You're a special kind of stupid aren't you?

Avatar
@ TomP

Sounds to me that it was not just two people campaigning. Do some research and find out how many people supported this. Who were the elected officials that changed the law? The Duggar's, while very popular, cannot change laws themselves. Was it put to a public vote? If so, then the MAJORITY of the voters in Fayetteville approved changing the law. If it was a council vote, time to elect new officials.

Avatar
@ TomP

So every single child molester is gay? Good to know.

Avatar
@ TomP

Couldn't someone with heterosexuality get a job near young boys or young girls? What's your point? Gay men are pedophiles? Are straight men and women not pedophiles? You make absolutely no sense. How is this law saving children from pedophiles? Do you even know what a pedophile is? It is an adult(male or female)that feels sexual urges towards children(male and female). Being homosexual makes you a pedophile just as much as being heterosexual makes you a pedophile. SMH.

Avatar
@ Tara Bassler Baldridge

I'll say this again to you!! You're a hater yourself, you need to carry around a mirror to check yourself & what you believe before you can pass judgment on anyone who doesn't agree with your beliefs!! Also remember that for every one finger pointed at a Christian or someone who doesn't believe the same way you do, you have 3 fingers pointed right back at your selves in judgment as well!!

Avatar
@ Tara Bassler Baldridge

Please give me one example of how they have used their TLC show as a platform to tell the world to hate everyone. Have you even read Mr. Duggar's quote? He said they love everyone but don't agree with everyone. Do you hate everyone you disagree with, Tara? I'm very sorry for any kind of suicide, but we can't blame the Duggars or those who think like them for this. We don't have a right in this world to not have our feelings hurt. My Muslim friends (not the extremist kind) sincerely believe I'm wrong and I may very well not end up in heaven because of it. You obviously believe I'm wrong (and hateful, for that matter), but I need to go on with my day and not let it bother me. If i decided to commit suicide because you said I was hateful, would it be your fault? I have also heard many stories of gay people who found hope, purpose, and healing THROUGH the Christian faith and it has PREVENTED their suicide.

The reason I asked you if you hated everyone you disagreed with you wasn't to put you down, but to show you that perhaps your logic is flawed. You obviously believe that any Christian who doesn't think a gay lifestyle is God's best for a person also hates all people who are gay. I'm sure there are a lot of ideologies you don't agree with, but do you honestly hate people who practice them? I don't. I can assure of of that, and have many gay friends who would support this statement of me.

I'm sorry I did not reply Elka. I've commented to a few posts on this article and had to catch up. You did not insult me. I do not hate anyone.. they actions are a different story. What I don't agree with is the way people use their opinion if that makes sense. For example, let's say I felt that people who were born with blue hair were just not ok (I figure since this doesn't happen it is a safe example). It is ok to have that opinion, but it would NOT be ok to treat those people with no respect and tell them that everyone with blue hair are disgusting, child molesters, disgusting or anything else (add in all the things you hear that are said about gay people). It is not ok for me to make another human feel like they are less worthy or not equal to any other human. I am not saying that you personally do this Elka, but we have all seen and heard the awful things people say. If you live day to day hearing and seeing these comments in your every day life, either in your life or in the media, it is going to affect people. They are going to start to believe that they are lower than other people and that they are nasty and awful for simply how they were born. Hearing that day after day after day after day will have an effect on someone. I've seen people say that it isn't other people's fault if someone commits suicide. But if someone is bombarded with that negativity every day.. it does play a part. I think it is so sad that some one is so judged and treated so badly for simply being who they are. It is a sad sad thing.

Tara. I'm very sorry you were attacked on here. I understand a lot of what you're saying, but I have to say that I side with the commentator who wrote a long post on the fact that we can't stop people from expressing their views because some others may find it hurtful. This goes both ways. I've honestly had quite a bit of backlash because I'm a Christian. I worked for a very high-profile fashion retailer in a large city and was ostracized by the other girls there because I was a Christian. I didn't share my faith at work, or anything. They just knew and because of this, didn't want to be my friend and bullied me to a certain degree. I was certainly made to feel less. I was there for 4 years and although I never contemplated suicide, the constant ostracization wore on me. The ironic thing is, I bonded with a few of our LGBT employees because they understand what it's like to be marginalized. These bully girls, who were definitely pro-gay marriage, often made fun of one of the gay men I worked with because of the inflection in his voice.

I'm sorry you got bullied. It is never an easy thing to deal with. I was bullied A LOT in high school. I did think about suicide quite a few times back then, but thank goodness I was to afraid to do it. I want to make clear that I am not attacking a religion. I strongly believe that religion is a very personal thing and everyone has the right to believe in whatever they want to believe in not matter what the religion. I have a different religion than Christianity and I completely understand being looked at differently. I honestly do respect everyone's choice to worship with what feels right in their heart. I just hate to see bullying of any kind. It doesn't matter what it has to do with. Religion, sexual orientation, race or body type and so on. It is just so sad that we as humans (not separated by religions or beliefs, just plain old human beings) can't seem to just accept people and respect people. I always find that so sad. That is why I try to be accepting as I can. Does that mean I am going to agree with everyone's opinion.. no. And that is ok. The world would be boring if everyone thought the same thing. I just get upset when opinions begin to seriously hurt people, affect their lives and their rights. Thank you Elka for having a civil exchange with me. In another comment thread on this article I was told I should move to China because I didn't agree to freedom of speech lol. Isn't it nice when two people who might not completely agree on things can still have a conversation without it resulting in name calling and disrespect?

Expressing views is one thing, legally trying to stop others from having the same rights as you,is another. The Duggars put themselves out there for public view and scrutiny. They have free speech and so do those that oppose the Duggar's view. The Duggars put there views out there for the public and that makes us more aware of what is really going on with them and not just their(IMO)hateful views, but their hateful legal action as well. I think the Duggars are ridiculous and I don't like their views, but I wouldn't try to legally stop them from having the same rights that I have. I could care less about any of the petitions from either side. Those petitions are just ways of letting people be heard on either side and nothing will legally become of it. You say you faced a backlash for being Christian, well,I've faced the same thing for not being Christian. Did you get fired for being Christian? Did you get evicted for being Christian? Were you turned away for a marriage license for being Christian? Those are things that the LGBT community face every day by people like the Duggars. When I say "like the Duggars", I mean people that try to keep discrimination legal.

They don't hate anyone and if you get that from them your sadly wrong. That 12 year old boy killing himself is sad. But you can not blame that on anyone. He made the decision to take his life. Perhaps if his family or friends offered him the opportunity to know Jesus he would still be alive and doing well. But you can not know exactly what was going on in that child's mind.
