The X Factor is down to three contestants: Melanie Amaro, Chris Rene and Josh Krajcik.

In a week, meanwhile, the Fox singing competition may also be down one host.

Sources tell Deadline that Steve Jones will not be asked back for season two, as fans really haven't taken to the Brit. He was initially paired with Nicole Scherzinger as host, but then Cheryl Cole was removed from the judging table prior to the season kicking off and Scherzinger took her place.

It's far too early to know who will take over for Jones, but Nicole could head back on stage again and a new judge could be brought in next fall.

Will you miss Steve Jones on The X Factor?

She may not be the most beloved judge - especially after last week's Rachel Crow ousting - but  Nicole Scherzinger is no slouch behind the microphone... on stage, that is.

Last night, prior to Marcus Canty's getting eliminated, the former Pussycat Doll debuted her new single, "Pretty," which is off the album "Killer Love." Look for it in early 2012 and listen to Nicole's solo effort now:

What do you think? Could Scherzinger hang with finalists Chris Rene, Melanie Amaro and Josh Krajcik? They will compete next week for the title of First Ever X Factor Champion and we wanna know:

WHO WILL WIN?

Marcus Canty, as most people predicted, was the victim on last night's X Factor results show, leaving Melanie Amaro, Josh Krajcik and Chris Rene to vie for the title.

Canty had been in bottom two four weeks in a row, and last week’s publicly unpopular elimination brought a lot of pressure - too much for him to last another week.

“The pressure is off," he said in an exit interview after last night. "I don’t have to sing no more save me’s. I don’t got to worry about America shooting me down."

"I ain’t got to worry about Simon giving me heat. I can just relax.”

The pressure may be off Canty, but for Amaro, Krajcik and Rene, it's just beginning.

Next week's finale means the culmination of their journey, but only one will be crowned champion. Canty played coy when reporters asked him who he thought would win.

“I think Chris [Rene] can do Chris, Melanie [Amaro] does Melanie, and Josh [Krajcik] … who knows who is going to win, man? I’m enjoying myself. It’s a beautiful day.”

Thanks for the input, Marcus. What do you think? Vote in our poll below!

Following one of the most surprising, emotional results of the season (we miss you, Rachel!), The X Factor pretty much stuck to the script on this week's results show.

After dragging out the elimination for as long as the show could - first, Florence + The Machine played, then Melanie and Chris advanced to next Wednesday's finale - it came down to Marcus Canty and Josh Krajcik. And the latest hopeful sent packing was...

Marcus Canty on Stage

Marcus Canty!

The fun dancer simply could not overcome a performance from the previous night that Simon Cowell labeled as "grotesque and horrific."

"God blessed me so much," Canty said after his name was called "It's not over yet."

Did America make the right choice in sending Marcus home?

Simon Cowell is not a fan of Marcus Canty. That was made clear early in the week when The X Factor judge dismissed any notion that Canty had a shot at winning this year's $5 million grand prize.

But Simon drove his negative points home even further last night, responding to Canty's take on "Careless Whisper" with the harshest criticism leveled at a contestant this season.

"That was horrific. The grotesque performance. This was a joke," Cowell said.

Ouch. Will Marcus once again find himself in the bottom two on tonight's results show? Does he deserve a spot there? Watch his pair of performances from last night and decide now:

Josh Krajcik brought Paula Abdul to tears on The X Factor last night. Granted, this is about as difficult as getting Lindsay Lohan to have a drink. But still.

The heartfelt crooner belted out a couple of songs on the semifinals, once again proving his versatility via a piano-based version of "Hallelujah" and a livelier version of "Come Together."

The former prompted Abdul to tell Josh he "attacks our souls," while the latter caused Nicole Scherzinger to compare the contestant to a "beautiful prayer." It's safe to say they're big fans. Are you? Watch Krajcik in double action now.

The judges are not ready to crown Melanie Amaro X Factor champion just yet.

Following one of Chris Rene's two performances last night, Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul jokingly argued about whether or not he looks like $1 million on stage... or $5 million the grand prize that will be awarded to next week's winner.

Does Rene have the best voice in the competition? No. But his spirit "transcends across the universe," according to Scherzinger. That, or he's just very good looking, right, ladies? Watch Chris cover "Fly" and "No One" now:

It's never easy being the favorite. Just ask the Miami Heat or the Boston Red Sox.

But Melanie Amaro has been considered The X Factor front-runner since her very first audition, never faltering under the pressure, giving stellar performance after stellar performance every week on Fox. That didn't change last night.

The talented crooner belted out two covers - one chosen by America, "Hero," the other on her own, "Feeling Good" - and only cemented her status as the contestant to beat.

"You’re the greatest female that ever graced this stage," L.A. Reid told Melanie. "You are the truth."

With Rachel Crow fans still still buzzing over Nicole Scherzinger's decision to send the most recent elimination episode to a deadlock, resulting in the ousting of this cute contestant, Simon Cowell has now taken it upon himself to anger Marcus Canty supporters.

Speaking to reporters this week, the judge scarcely even acknowledged the singer as an X Factor contender, despite his presence in the final four, saying:

"I think it's quite clear that it's down to three people now. And it's Melanie, Josh and Chris."

The X Factor Final 4

Canty, of course, has been stuck in the bottom two for three consecutive Thursdays, but he remains hopeful that he can pull an upset.

"For me to think for one second in my mind that I don't deserve to be here will be killing myself," he says. "This is my dream too. No matter what people think, I'm up here. This is my dream. And that's why I keep fighting to make it to the top."

That certainly is the right attitude. Who do you think will win The X Factor?

For the record, Nicole Scherzinger did not send Rachel Crow home on Thursday night.

This X Factor judge instead chose to let America decide between the 13-year old and Marcus Canty, yet Scherzinger is the panelist facing the harshest fan rebuke after Crow's name was called for elimination.

"My heart comes from the right place, so I get really sensitive when people are negative," the former Pussycat Doll told reporters after the show. "Don't [critics] know I only want the best for every single person?"

Nicole added that she thought Canty would be selected by voters, though they never got a chance to hear Crow's incredible survival song.

"When I saw that look on her face, [I felt] that I had let her down, like I dropped her," Scherzinger, who shed tears for 30 minutes after the episode, said. "I could have been holding on and I dropped her. She is the sunshine of our show, so it's hard to see her cry."

Crow, however, has come out and said the public should not blame Nicole, while the young crooner's fortunes are already looking up: sources say Disney has requested a meeting with Rachel.
