Do you believe in Rachel Crow?

This young X Factor finalist did all she could last night to earn votes and praise from the judges, covering a Yolanda Adams single with the same pluck and fire she brings each week to the competition. At least we think that's what happened. It was a bit difficult to actually see Rachel on stage, what with all the backup dancers and confetti flying around. This may have been an overly staged performance.

Melanie Amaro accomplished the impossible on The X Factor last night: she forced L.A. Reid to offer up words of encouragement.

This judge is so focused on being negative and on creating some kind of feud with the other mentors that he even admitted at one point this week that he goes into each performing looking for faults. But what am I supposed to say? he asked Melanie after she covered R. Kelly's "The World's Greatest." I cannot criticize it.

We're down to nine contestants on The X Factor, as this singing competition airs a special Tuesday installment this evening and then gives two finalists the boot tomorrow night. Hey, at least they'll be home in time for sweet potato!

As we head toward the home stretch of the first season, let's stop and assess those still around. Who has the best shot at taking home the $5 million grand prize? Who might as well give up now? Read on for our rankings.

Stacy Francis got in a few parting shots after her elimination from The X Factor last night, and it was difficult to blame the contestant for any of them.

The aspiring singer was given the boot even after 14-year old Astro whined about being a member of the final two and sulked his way through a rendition of "Never Say Goodbye." Simon Cowell berated the young singer, but still voted for Stacy to leave.

Thursday evening's X Factor results show was noteworthy not just for the decision between Stacy and Astro (and the latter's behavior), but for the fact that Rihanna was not the most controversial person on stage for once in her life.

Performing her latest hit in a bomber jacket pair of circa 1991 ripped jeans, red-haired RiRi thrilled fans with a rendition of her latest dance-pop hit, "We Found Love"

Like Chris Rene, Astro interpreted the theme to last night's X Factor episode as loosely as possible.

This young, extraordinarily talented rapper didn't really do rock 'n roll in any sense of the term. Instead, he stuck to what he knows/does best and brought the crowd to its feet with a take on "I’ll Be Missing You (Every Breath You Take)."

Yes, we know: Bob Marley was inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. But still.

Very few people associated this icon with that genre of music, although Chris Rene is apparently one of the few who considers the dreadlocked star to be a famous rocker. The X Factor finalist mashed up a couple of his biggest hits last night, invoking a response from Simon Cowell that made us laugh and nod our heads:

We doubt Rachel Crow has a rock 'n roll career ahead of her. That just isn't this X Factor contestant's niche.

But the 13-year old gave the genre a gallant effort last night, having fun with a cover of the classic Rolling Stones single, "I Can't Get No Satisfaction."
