Ray Dolby, a sound engineer who revolutionized noise reduction and whose name became synonymous with "surround" audio, has died at age 80.

The founder of Dolby Laboratories suffered from Alzheimer's disease for several years and was diagnosed with leukaemia this summer.

Kevin Yeaman, president of Dolby, described Ray as a "true visionary."

Born in Portland, Oregon, he began his career in the Ampex Corporation, helping to develop early video recording systems while he was still a student.

"Though he was an engineer at heart, my father's achievements in technology grew out of a love of music and the arts," said his son Tom Dolby.

Katherine Heigl is not a sought-after actress in Hollywood these days, according to a new report, with film and TV insiders saying she's a giant pain.

A source who worked with her on 2010's Life As We Know It described to THR some "desperately difficult situations" with Heigl on the movie set.

"She can cost you time every single day of shooting," the source said. "Wardrobe issues, not getting out of the trailer, questioning the script every single day."

Making matters worse, THR says, is her mother and manager Nancy Heigl, who has worked closely with her daughter since her days as a child model.

"I have never experienced anything like Nancy Heigl," says the source.

This week on A&E's Duck Dynasty, the guys apparently didn't know what jackalope was, which seems a bit hard to believe from men of their caliber.

Nevertheless, it was the focal point of another hilarious half-hour.

The jackalope - a taxidermist's mounting of a jackrabbit with deer antlers attached to it - was given to big John Godwin by his uncle, who passed away.

He received it in the mail and couldn't identify it, so the Duck Commander gang had it appraised by a local taxidermist. Instead of working, obviously.

Si claimed to have once shot at an animal like that in swamp, but missed it because it was wet ... or bulletproof ... we've already forgotten the explanation.
