Last night's Game of Thrones Season 4 premiere got us thinking about the only other show on television that can compete with GOT in terms of the amount of lust and carnage it can pack into one episode.

You guessed it - Real Time With Bill Maher.

Just kidding, we're talking about True Blood, of course!

Bill and Sookie: True Blood's Sexiest Couple
Bill and Sookie from True Blood. The actors who portray them - Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin - are married in real life.

Season 7 of the hit HBO vampire soap opera doesn't premiere until June, but its never too early to start boning up (tee-hee) on all the sex, violence and shocking twists that have made the series such an enduring guilty pleasure.

Even the most devoted fans of the series probably have a hard time keeping track of every coupling and killing. Remember the outdoor orgy orchestrated by Maryann Forrester in season 2? How about Bill and Lorena's um... head-turning hook-up from the third season?

Or, for that matter, how about any scene involving resident sex fiend Jason Stackhouse?

We know what waiting sucks, True Blood fans.

But at least you now know when it will be over.

HBO announced today that True Blood Season 7 will premiere on Sunday, June 22. It will be comprised of 10 episodes... the final 10 episodes in series history.

Along those lines, the network has also released the very first Season 7 teaser. It takes viewers through a number of dead character graves, pausing at the end for the headstone of True Blood itself:

Here is what we know so far about True Blood Season 7: it will depict many bare breasts.

Filming in True Blood Season 7 is scheduled to get underway next month.

But producers have now been left scrambling to fill a role they had already thought filled, as insiders confirm to TV Line that Luke Grimes has dropped out of the series as James.

Viewers first met James last year when he got VERY close to Deborah Ann Woll's Jessica.

Why the switch?

Enjoy Alexander Skarsgard nude while you can, HBO viewers.

The actor will be packing up his six-pack next summer.

Following weeks of rumors, HBO made it official today: True Blood will wrap up after next summer's 10-episode run, as confirmed today by president of programming Michael Lombardo.

True Blood Season 6 Scene

"True Blood has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO," Lombardo said. "Alan Ball took the books by Charlaine Harris, assembled a brilliant cast led by the magnificent Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse, and crafted a show that has taken its many devoted fans on an unforgettable journey.

"Alan passed the baton to Brian Buckner, who led our fantastic writers and crew in crafting a spectacular sixth season, and he will lead us through the seventh and final season of this amazing show. Together with its legions of fans, it will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show."

SPOILER ALERT: Stop reading right now if you are yet to watch last night's True Blood Season 6 finale.

On the concluding episode of this HBO drama, Sookie once again struck up a relationship with Alcide... Jason killed Warlow and enjoyed his role as a sex slave... Hep V-infected vampires made like characters on The Walking Dead and...

... Who are we kidding? Alexander Skarsgard got naked! Totally, completely, full-frontal-style naked! What else from the finale matters?!?

The scene was less erotic than it sounds, considering it teases the True Death for Skarsgard's character of Eric Northman, who thought he was safe to suntan in the buff, unaware of events back home that affected his heretofore UV-proof skin.

Watch the incredibly, literally hot scene unfold now:

True Blood has not been messing around the last couple weeks.

Terry took a bullet seven days ago and now Nora has met the True Death, via an ingestion of Hepatitis V that left her a disintegrated mess in a sobbing Eric's arms.

Remember when this series never actually killed anyone off? Bravo to the writers for upping the stakes in such a fashion. There was no twist to the ending of "In the Evening," no last-minute save by Bill or Warlow. There was simply tears by a brother and a brave goodbye from a sister.

Farewell, Nora

Aside from the emotion it invoked, Nora's passing ought to bring Eric and Bill back together again. (No, not like that... even though this is True Blood).

True Blood may have concluded its previous episode with the lives of Sookie, Eric and Pam in peril... but two other characters met their demise on last night's "Don't You Feel Me."

Indeed, Terry Bellefleur got his desire and got gunned down by his hired assassin, though not before viewers watched this troubled veteran at his best and happiest:

Cooking at Merlotte's. Cuddling with Arlene. Actually smiling for a change.

Rest in Peace, Terry

Elsewhere, we learned of the poisonous plans of Governor Burrell: he wants to inject Tru Blood with Hepatitis V.

Fortunately, he won't be around to see this scheme come to fruition, thanks to the coolest series killing in years: Bill ripping the politician's head off and depositing it at the foot of his statue in town.

The Governor's evil plan coming to fruition?

During the show's panel discussion at Comic-Con yesterday, the good folks behind True Blood Season 6 debuted a trailer that teased plenty of trouble ahead on this HBO drama. Watch it here:

“You’re going to feel that the show is returning to its roots,” producer Brian Buckner told fans at the event in San Diego. “We’re going to try to condense the number of stories we’re telling and really make this feel like we’re coming home.”

And by condense, does he mean kill off characters? Stay tuned. Find out!
